Thank you so much...as a teenager of the 80's...to actually now grab a bit of software like this...and create the same sounds as those from the big rock ballads all those years ago...it just blows me away! This Unify program looks pretty cool. Definitely something useful to combine various VSTs. As for Dexed it is very cool VST and also utility for DX7 users but also all compatible gear like Volca FM and others.

  • @griiseknoen

I also have Absynth and FM8. Just installed it on my iPad 2 Pro. I need to figure out how to get the sound banks on the Raspberry pi’s. I think I know how, just need to try it and see if it works. Tuesday Tips has become essential viewing and not just for Unify owners but, as in this case, to get the best out of the other included virtual instruments. Like others here I have had Dexed for ages and used the presets but this is a really handy tutorial on how to tweak it to make your own. When things get back to normal and someone asks "What kept you going through all of this?" I am pretty sure that "looking forward to Tuesday Tips" will be on the list 👍😎 Huge thanks SkipPy! blown away at the sounds after grabbing this synth HOWEVER the 'show dir' doesn't open a file explorer, only able to launch file explorer via 'load' (windows 64 bit using reaper) (&&& functions as expected in standalone mode, outside of DAW) ... any way, totally would recommend, super happy with the synth. and kinda worried about infinite bliss while browsing the 3k patches in the 'DX7 All The Web' ... also 17:01 totally reminds me of Rhye's opening for "Phoenix"

I'm a fan of the 4op sounds (DX100 or DX27 etc) Also it's always worth tweaking patches, even just move knobs a tiny amount, you'll be surprised how much more alive patches can become.

This was unbelievably helpful. I must say I would have appreciated it if you had taken a few extra minutes to explain and demonstrate each of the different parameters. Of course I can play around with the knobs myself but knowing exactly what each one is doing from a technical sense (which you seem to have knowledge of) would have been very helpful. But great video, thanks so much.

Maybe someone who understands the Unify concept could explain. :) Also, have I understood correctly: Unify can load VST2 plugins? Because that would solve the problem with Cubase 12 not supporting VST2 plugins anymore.

Lower Left there is a knob above the wording "MIDDLE C". That will change the reference note - make it C2 or C1 to play lower notes, C4 or C5 to play higher notes and be in the right key (you have 5 octaves range).

There is - Next to each of the 6 OSC "LEVEL" knob is a knob named "Key Vel" which is the sensitivity to velocity. Make sure you look at the Algorithm because the Key Vel knob controls volume on the operators that show up at the bottom row, but any row above they control the sound going from dark to bright timbre by velocity. Hope this helps.

Can you use dexed with any keyboard? Because I am using a Yamaha PSR e213 and it doesn't make sound from dexed when I press on the keyboard and I don't have a dx7 IN option for some reason
Update: It works when I press the keyboard and dexed plays a sound but it doesn't play it in time every time when I press a key on my keyboard

My problem with dexed are the thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of patches. I can't find the sound that i want and it takes too long to sift through everything.

DEXED doesn't have any built in effects - so it must be something in your DAW's mixer adding reverb. There are some patches that have poorly simulated reverb but for the vast majority, they are totally dry from Dexed.

Why is the UI so impossibly small? Almost unusable even on a 24" screen. Can it not be scaled to fill any screen?

WHat I still don't understand, do you run dexed inside of a DAW or on it's own? I'm trying to run it on its own but when it opens, it's too big for the screen and I can't resize the window.

Dexed is a plug-in and I don't believe it comes with a standalone version. You need to use Reaper or your DAW of choice, or our own Unify multi-plugin playground that comes as both plugin and standalone. If it doesn't fit your screen you need to increase the resolution of your monitor. Dexed doesn't have any screen resize options.

Do you know if you can make sounds on the iOS version and then transfer that somehow to the VST version inside Unify?

No idea my friend - if someone tries this, I hope they will let us know!
