    Beautiful countryside. Great review. It has been raining here every week so keeping up with the mowing is a top priority for me and the neighbors. At my age and my health no way could I push a mower. I have a Zero Turn 30 hp 5 foot cut riding mower. Now that I am getting old it is a challenge just to get on and off the thing. Like you I live outside the city and have for the last 37 years. It looks very peaceful looking. Where you live. I love my solitude, but people have begun to build houses all around me. I live on 8 acres of land but am beginning to feel smothered. LOL As always thanks for bringing us along.

    I had better make sure the Wife does not see this , she'll want a new mower . Mind you if we had a new one , i would not have to try & start the bastard every time she wants to use it ! 👍

    Now Jon, that’s a reasonable size bit of land you got there, just thinking a decent size workshop would look a treat on that space, just saying Dawn, oh by the way your a cut above the rest and I’m green with envy 👴🏻👍🇺🇦

      Don’t go giving him ideas Terry, he had talked of it in the past though.

    Good review Jon, you convinced me with the spec. Nice machine. I was just about to click buy online then I remembered, I haven't got any grass. Cheers Tony

    Thanks Jon for providing us with a comprehensive review of this relatively unknown brand here in Europe. Congrats on your lawn, it looks very nice.

    When I grew up in Sweden, Stiga was the ride-on lawn mowers to have. You should've bought one of those with the hingle in the middle (like a front-loader in the earth mover equipment).
    Pretty certain that motor is made in Thailand, Honda makes most, if not all of their "utility motors" there.

    Now where's the fun in that? You could have spent MANY hours and MANY pounds repairing the old mower - that's where the fun is 😁. Good review though.

    Thanks for sharing your review Jon. I'd love something like this but we only have a tiny lawn. I saw Rustinox comment. Would it hold enough petrol to get it over to his lawn?? 😂 Cheers Nobby

    Hello, just few words...
    I have two Stigas: 2019 Comby 55 and 2020 Combi 53 as yours. I"ve noticed very low rust resistance of decks. Both - full of rust underside. Paint gone quickly. This is definately an issue.
    I had no issues at all with 2013 Husqvarna LC348V - which desk is way better - I would say superb. - It looks as fresh as new even after 10+ years.
    Another point for Stiga - take care of gears inside the rear wheels. This requires maintanance at least once in 3 month. If you hear any crack sound from rear wheels - it's time to remove wheels and make maintanance - importat to remove gear from shaft - which is tricky for the first time.
    But overall i am quite happy with Stiga. but major concern is low rust resistance.

    My Suffolk Super Colt is still in action! Mind you, I don't have acres to do. I do have a modern petrol mower too. Hope it serves you well Jon.

    For someone who hasn't cut his own grass for 40+ yrs, wife did it as I was often away when required, boys took over for 10yrs (daughter tried once LOL). Wife had to after my injuries etc or we often get someone in. A yard that size give m a ride on!!!!

    Good review Jon. Each year in Autumn, I have "the leaf job". Do you think it would mulch up leaves? I don't collect them or rake them just run the mower over them, they mulch up and go into the collection box. Looking lovely up Beattock way. You have so much grass that a ride on mower seems viable. If I got one of those I would have to put a gas turbine on it...

    Lots of my farming friends have ride-on Stigas, I bought a John Deere ride-on because it's a lovely colour and has a good drink holder. I also have a small Hyundai which has fancy electric start. It also has an excellent drink holder. Second best feature in the indicator flap that shows airflow through the catch box so means you can empty it before it fills. My Honda vee twin Countax ride on threw a rod and self-destructed. Best mower I had was a Snapper. I would have bought a Stiga ride-on if it wasn't for the Deere being so pretty. I'm SO shallow.

    Hi Jon , can i refer back to your video on measuring squareness? I recently purchased a granite square to use with my surface plate. I thought it would be interesting to hinge it on the surface plate. I only have a rudimentary understanding of the subject but i was disappointed with the result as it seemed to suggest that the edges were hollow. Any thoughts?

    • @jonsworkshop
      @jonsworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nick, all I can suggest is first off you need to be sure the hinging result is caused by the square alone by repeating the hinging in different areas of the surface plate and different directions (round the very perimeter should be least worn on your plate). Following that, if it definitely looks like the square, you could try bluing the table and getting a print on the square to try and assess the amount, for ref a couple of microns dish will be more than enough to affect the hinge point on granite due to its surface roughness (or lack of it), it behaves differently to machined metal on the hinge test. It is also possible you got a Friday afternoon one that is really bad, try getting a thou feeler (cigarette paper) into the dish area shown by your blueing print. If you can then photograph the evidence and return the item. Hope this helps

      Hi Jon, thanks for taking the time. I’ll do as you suggest. I’m sure,at the end of the day its a better granite square than i am a machinist 😂

    I went through all of this in 2021, but I cannot remember Stiga mowers. I was going to buy a Honda, but quite simply couldn't justify the extra cost. Bought a Hyundai in the end. I'm very pleased with it so far, it has the distinct advantage of electric start.

    Cheers Jon, went through the same process last year after my cheap non brand second hand mower caused so much bother to start (was knackered pulling the starter cord before even starting cutting the grass), that I bit the bullet and went for a new one. Ended up with a Hyundai which looks very similar to the Stiga (a few small differences but essentially the same- I suppose its a lawn mower after all). Main reason I went for the Hyundai was the electric start- bliss, no more hauling on a pull cord (its still there as a backup). Stiga looks good and like the fact that you can control the drive speed, could do with slowing mine down a bit as I feel as if I'm chasing after it. Good review for anyone looking to purchase same or similar, thanks again.

    Hah, just pulled my hands out from under the same piece of crap mower with a different name (mine was sold as "Sentar"). So you can forget the "swedish design" bit, it's part of GGP - Global Garden Products. Not the worst mower I've ever owned, but far from the best. Be really careful if you have uneven ground, you'll kill the blade holder.
    Into the video now. Yeah, probably made in italy, that's where GGP are based I believe. Mine has a GGP Italy badge on it.

    • @howardosborne8647
      @howardosborne8647 ปีที่แล้ว

      That GGP sounds very similar to another company Global Manufacturing Corp. They used to be responsible for many of the brand names sold through B&Q and the likes. Brands such as Titan, Erbaur,Performance Power Pro, Triton etc
