    Perfect. Only problem was some previous owner had effected a repair minus the retaining washer and substituting the split pins with 2 nails to retain the vice together. These I had to drill out because too stiff to drift. Because the washer was missing the buffing spring was baddly buckled, with the spring binding around the nail. I imagine this vice was used in a workshop, why did the "repairer" cut corners, when a workshop of useful material would be available?

    Thanks for a great video with a very good and detailed explanation of the system 👍 I had my 520d 2013 up on the lift and was just about to replace the airbags, when i came across your video, and realized that it more likely was the solenoide that was broken. My BMW was also sitting on the ground, and when it was started the compressor would start for a few seconds, without anything happening. I took the solenoide off and found out that it was in the closed position which it should be. When i checked the resistance of the two pins of the solenoide the resistance was 12,8 ohm, which seemed pretty normal. I then connected the two pins of the solenoide to a 12V battery but it remained in the closed position, until i did connect it maybe 20 times and then it suddenly started to work, and i could now blow air through the solenoide when it was connected to 12V. I then assembled it again and the car worked perfect and still does, and i could even return the unused airbags 😊

    Good review. If you sprinkle a little flux on the workpiece before heating, it keeps the metal clean as it heats- the braze then takes better.

    Glad I stumble on this series. Last fall, I picked up an original Atlas Shaper from the 1930's. It's not the 7B, so it doesn't have the table support in the front. Last year I rebuild an Atlas Milling Machine and now the task of rebuilding the shaper begins. Thanks for sharing these videos. They will be very helpful. I'd be curious if anyone knows if the mold is the same as to where I could convert it to the 7B series by swapping out the base and installing the 7B working surfaces with the table support. Any assistance would be great. Cheers.

    I like that surface grinder. Is it 3 phase? If so, are you using an inverter. But it does a lovely job, I should get one. Cheers

    • @jonsworkshop
      @jonsworkshop 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Richard, yes, 3 phase through an inverter. Way back in my videos you will see the game I had trying to get the original motor to work with my static phase converter and failing. I purchased a new 3 phase motor and adapted the machine etc. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Just wondering why you used the shaper and not the milling machine for the machining ? Cheers

    • @jonsworkshop
      @jonsworkshop 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Richard, I often get asked that. Simply for the joy of using such a fascinating machine, some nostalgia as a shaper was the very first machine I worked on day 1 of my apprenticeship, and it has a power traverse which my mill doesn't, allowing me to de-burr etc whilst cutting. As this is a hobby for me, it's all about pleasure, not about speed. Hope this answers👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    This is a great video and I'm glad I found it. I just bought a ZAY 7045FG and looks very much like this machine apart from the switch box in front. I have an issue that the spindle/milling tool vibrate and move around quite a bit when in use. Nice and smooth just spinning round without any load on it but vibrates when in use. Even a small 4mm end mill will vibrate on soft mild steel. It's horrible, never seen anything like it. If I go to a 12mm end mill tool, the whole machine vibrate around. The Head, the Table, everything. Does yours do that as well? I'd love a few suggestions. HELP!
