No volume spacers for the XCR, so I emailed SR Suntour themselves. They recommend adding gear oir at least 80W. Any gear oil will do, just add it into the air chamber. What can I say, the fork became more plush. I used Slickoleum instead of conventional or their proprietary SR grease, it became less sticky, but it's a budget fork, so with your 120mm mod and Slick+the oil in the chamber should upgrade things considerably. Too bad the stancions suffer from wear, which increase stickiness.
The red rebound plug can just be pulled out , there is a Allen rod that actually turns the adjustment higher up in the fork. reseat the rod back into the red plug and try adjusting again.
Nice review, thanks for your efforts. I've had a XCR34 for a couple of months, mainly use it for skate park, a little pump track, tiny amoutn of trail riding so far. It's good, no real complaints except it's quite heavy. It's my first budget fork after 4 or 5 good bikes (all stolen, sadly) and I'm very surprised and impressed. Highly recommended with the caveat I have no idea if it will last. FYI I weight 82kg, pump the fork to 100 PSI.
Hope you see this, great vid! Kudos all the way from the Philippines! Here we're used to more of a what some adults from the US call "budget" so this really helped me out!
so my Giant Talon 1 came equipped with this fork and I have the exact same experience as you. It feels very unresponsive on small bumps but it takes bigger impacts reasonably well. I went to a bike shop to get some more air in it because I accidentally let out a bit too much, but 5 minutes after I got that done I bunny hopped at speed and it just didn't respond at all on impact resulting in a bent wheel, and as I discovered after I got a new wheel, the fork is actually bent. So yea if you don't ride too hard and need a budget fork, definitely splash your cash on this, but for harder riding, I'd go for an X-Fusion or Manitou fork. Nice review by the way man! I didn't expect such a small channel to make such a good video, so definitely checking out more of your stuff and you earned a new sub! Keep up the good work!
My Xcr came in today, but sadly the lockout and rebound would not engage or even function after two rides. Not even riding hard, just doing street…. It’s really weird. I’m going to contact suntour tomorrow and see what they say.
This fork doesn't support 29" wheels but they do make a version that does, if you type into Google or whatever "SR Suntour XCR Air 29" suspension fork" you should find some results. And this fork will handle a tire up to 2.6 inches wide so you should be good. Good luck!
Based on a quick Google search, it's the XCR Air 29 in the 80mm of travel configuration. If you want to go to 100 or 120 watch my video about it. Sorry it took me so long to answer your comment, I don't check the Tube very often these days. Thanks for watching!
Yes I had that problem for a while, I solved it by reducing the volume with gear oil. I made a tutorial on that if you're interested. th-cam.com/video/Mwb57A5oLrc/w-d-xo.html
@@IGMTB My problem is not bottoming out but the fork is too stiff and does not respond with small bumps. I use 90psi and im 85kg (188lbs) and still the fork is too stiff. With less psi I have a huge amount of sag
why i wouldnt get the XCR air: it has a non servicable damper unit, it has bad main seals (no foam dust wipers and oil in the lower legs only a bit of grease) and it is very heavy. a rockshox would have none of these issues but still i would go for manitou at this level since they are a lot lighter on top of that (manitou markhor will be 400grams less). how is your fork holding up? do you regrease the seals often?
At this point, I've had the fork for a year and I have regreased the seals 2 times. It is actually holding up great and It works very well for me. I have never used anything better than this fork, so once I use a bike with, I don't know, a Fox 34 I will probably have the same opinion about this fork as you do.
@@IGMTB im not saying it is a bad fork, just pointing out its weaknesses. ive been riding an xcr32 coil for +- 2 years and it also works fine for my riding. Beside that i also have experience with rockshox xc30, xc32 air, manitou M30 and fox 32 factory. No matter how expensive the fork, its all about maintaining your equipment. glad to hear you are taking care of the bike
my sr suntour NVX (basically the same thing but with thinner stantions) just holds up for like 8 months. but after i started riding hard, my fork began to squeak on big impacts like jumps and drops. did you have a simelar expierience ???
I had squeaking issues, bending, and like an inch of stanchion play in the XCT fork (my old one). But I haven't had any sort of issues on the XCR fork since I got it in January.
cool vid bro i have one of those 100mm coil forks on my cube aim pro and i have it for 5 months now and yes it is horrible but i dont know what to get either a new bike which would be a full suspension or a new fork for my hardtail. I ride quite hard at the local trail and i know a full sus will make the trail more pleasant to ride you seem like quite a wise person so thats why im asking you
I would recommend the recon but you can go with whatever suits your budget, and I would also recommend doing some extra research to compare the two and buy the one you think is best.
I ride a GT Aggressor Pro. Unfortunately, it does come with a Suntour branded fork and All Terra treads but despite the criticism, it gets by some people, I think it's a great bike. And especially for 300 dollars, I can't complain. In its stock form, it does pretty okay for an intermediate biker but I am looking at some upgrades for the bike to make it a bit more beastly. I've been riding rough with it for almost a year and there has barely been any signs of wear.
ProToX ThePro upgrade to the manitou Markhor (250$), or a Sr Suntour XCR 32 Air. Keep in mind you need a shock pump and a star nut to install. Hope this helped you.
This kid is far more polished and articulate than some of the more mature and so call 'experts' on her. He reminds me of Frankie Muniz from Malcolm In the Middle but I wont hold that against him :-)
The XCR cannot do any more than 120mm of travel. If you need more than that I would recommend something like a Fox 34 but if you can't afford that, the Suntour Epixon is also a good buy.

to answer your original question: The fork is working very well in general, but there are some small issues that aggravate me a little, but they aren't really deal breakers, like the fact that I only get about 110 mm of travel as opposed to the 120 is supposed to have because of the negative pressure being too great. but other than that it's good.
@@IGMTB Oh I know, but hey, I've been riding trails with a seized fork and commuting levels of tire PSI so I think any suspension'll be good! Plus I only have very basic tools for maintenance here at uni so I think it'll work out.
You can buy any fork with your bike. Idk what you kept saying, but it's not true. There are two kinds of Threadless forks. Non-tapered which are 1 1/8th inch completely down to the crown that's just alittle lip larger for setting the crown race for the bottom of the headset. Then there is Tapered, which is 1 1/8 to 1-5inch. This means the Top is normal 1 1/8th and the bottom where near the crown race is tapers larger to 1-5th kinda like your handlebars from the middle to the ends. So non-tapered are called 'Straight steerers'. Your headset bearings do not matter which kind of Fork you put on, long as it's of their size. So if you got a bike that's already had 1 1/8th size bearings for a STRAIGHT steerer. You can go for Any related straight steerer fork and ugprade from. If it has a Tapered system the bottom bearings will be Wider for a larger tapered fork. And this you'd have to focus on upgrades VIA tapered steerer. So The sr-suntour and RockShox Will work. But not the Fox forks because the Fox are Tapered. Hope this helps for future upgrades. Try going 110psi. instead of 100 or 120. But the biggest prob you have. Is you are doing 2 different specifics, but trying to look for Both in a single system. Which isn't gonna work correctly. if that doesn't work. Then figure what your gonna ride on, Ether with small bump feel. Or pump it up for taking more impacts from jumping off stuff.
How do you know that it isn't true if you don't know what I said? And by the way what you thought I said IS wrong and what I actually said is true. I know how forks work, I know the standards, and I said that the HEAD TUBE and CROWN RACES of my BIKE are PROPRIETARY and not the standard 1.5T or 1 1/8 meaning that I can't use an adapter to fit a tapered fork (which do exist by the way, look up Cane Creek 1 1/8 to 1.5T lower crown race). If you look at the video where I show the head tube you can see that it does taper slightly but not quite to the diameter required for a 1.5T lower crown race. I do however appreciate the fact that you went in depth with your comment instead of just saying "lol you wrong, dummy". Thank you, have a nice night. edit 9:12PMCSTNOV72019: forgot to change the word "is" to "are" to match the number of nouns I was describing.
@@IGMTB Aww. I thought you ment about the forks part. Ok. But yea that's kinda what i did with mine. I just used the stock headbearings and crown from the stock fork and slapped it onto my newer forks. Anyways hope it's been working well.
