    I remember fork travel being easy to adjust. It was a common feature. Pike forks had a way to just dial fork travel. Now it seems like forks have gotten harder to adjust. Fox and Rockshox have moved towards shaft replacement to change travel. Glad to see SR has kept a simpler design.

      yes, it's super easy

    • @patchesthejaybird8431

      I thought about it more, and I must be partly due to a move towards air springs. The old dial adjust on Rockshox Pikes was only on coil sprung forks. Anyway, hats off to SR for not requiring a shaft replacement a la RS Fox and others.

    Convert it to an oil bath! Add the foam rings and 10ml of fork oil in each of the lowers, makes them REALLY supple!

    Wow, nice fork. Suntour's high end line looks well engineered and constructed. Did Suntour recommend the synthetic gear lube for their air piston seals? Seems like a cost effective solution. I remember Rockshox Redrum of the past. I still have a little. It was probably similar to that gear lube, but red, and expensive, if you could find it.

    • @ToogyHowser
      @ToogyHowser  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah they recommend a little heavy oil in the air chamber, and yes Redrum would basically be the same thing!

    • @patchesthejaybird8431
      @patchesthejaybird8431 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ToogyHowser I think the synthetic gear oil will be on my list in the future. I probably only have 20cc of red rum left. I bought that from a shop about 17 years ago, they just poured it from their bottle into a small bottle I had. LOL.

    haha after servicing fox forks i thought you were gonna drop all the oil out, interesting that they have no oil in the lowers

  • @RogelioMtbRider
    @RogelioMtbRider 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice video! I didn't know that santour doesn't have oil at the lowers like the other brands.
    I have a question.
    Since the lowers are using grease, then the two bolts on each lowers near the mounting of the brake piston is use to insert grease inside the lowers. Is that true?
    Also, since you put a fork oil on the rubber seal of the stantion and press, then the water also can enter?

    • @breppe443
      @breppe443 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bit late but the two bolts you're talking about is just easy access ports to put gear oil on the foam rings. Two drops max on each side from personal experience. As for the case of water getting in the fork, I've been riding my Auron most of the winter season and even dropped my bike into a stream but I didn't see any signs of water getting in. Hope this helps.

      Checkout the Suntour Manual on their website for your specific fork.
      It'll say exactly what your travel range of the fork is!
      (For this fork, the Auron, it's minimum is 130 afaik)

  • @gfxman14
    @gfxman14 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    so you added a spacer because you wanted 10mm less of travel? does that do anything to the volume of the fork, as in making it stiffer or less chance of bottoming out?

    • @gfxman14
      @gfxman14 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      sorry I commented before the video was over. The spacer you added to the air shaft side, on the coil, what does that do? And adding the gear oil and spacers on the other fork takes volume away, why do you need both? Would the spacers alone do it, without adding gear oil?

  • @smarttask1

    My lockout has stopped working on my Suntour Aion LO-R 35 150mm. I have looked but not found any information on how to adjust or why this has happened.. any help would be appreciated...

    • @ToogyHowser
      @ToogyHowser  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think the Aion has a true lockout? Most forks don't. You can ramp up the compression but it's not a true lockout.

    • @abzyberdy
      @abzyberdy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are some mystic things about sr dampers. As i serviced my raidon fork, i compressed it without air up side down, this resulted in lockout stop working. There are different size hexes like 2 and 5 under the lockout cap and i managed it somehow to make it work again with turning them.
      There was a video somewhere on youtube, how to fix this problem.
      This 2 hex screws allow as well to adjust how much travel remains after locking the fork, from solid hard to 5-6 mm of travel, or even loose, so the lockout dont work any more.

    Hey toogy I have a lower end SR Suntour XCR Air fork with a remote lockout. I'm doing some more aggressive riding and I'm wondering if I will be able to adjust the travel on this fork since it isn't as high end. Do you know if I can do this and if so would you recommend it?

    • @ToogyHowser
      @ToogyHowser  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think this only applies to their air forks

    • @abzyberdy
      @abzyberdy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Raidon forks are also made to be adjustable from 80 to 140. But my one which came with the 2019 giant fathom 2 was not like this. Only 120mm travel availibale.
      But i did put some 15wt oil in the lowers just like the rockshox and it works very smooth.
      You can also change the progressivity of the air spring even if its not made to take volume spacers. Just add bit more Gear oil into the airchamber.

    Great video. I have a Suntour Raidon XC and I want to set 120mm travel with the same air volume spacers in upper part (It has actually 100mm). I want to keep the same progressivity with bigger travel. Is it possible? Can I keep the air volume spacers in the positive air spring there or I need to remove them when I increase the travel of the fork? Does the progressivity change if the travel is bigger and the upper spacers will stay there? Thank you.

  • @richardjensen3655
    @richardjensen3655 ปีที่แล้ว

    You dont have to hit both bottom bolts with a mallet? The lowers come right off simply by removing the bottom bolts? My axon's lowers can't come off, I supposedly didn't hit the bolts hard enough.

  • @magnitto
    @magnitto ปีที่แล้ว

    I followed the same steps but I couldn't get the lower legs removed, feels like negative pressure pulling the legs upwards whenever I try to pull them down.
    I tried to tap on the lower legbto release the trapped air same like what I used to do on the pike but now joy. The tapping has now made some dents as well to the nut and o probably need to buy a new one as its not tight ingredients
    Any idea how to remove the lower leg and where to buys spares from

  • @TheFatSteez
    @TheFatSteez 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ToogyHowser
      @ToogyHowser  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, well the volume spacers don't necessarily make the fork stiffer, I think it just adds mid stroke support, I think? I'm certainly not an expert on this! lol

I noticed that my Epixon is set at 100mm but the stanchion that is exposed at rest is at 120mm. I'm wondering if changing it from 100 to 120 would or wouldn't change the fork length.

      If it’s a straight starter I recommend buying the SR Suntour Epixon, or the RockShox Recon RL. Make ABSOLUTE CERTAIN you are buying the STRAIGHT steerer if you have one.

    Hey weird question but do you think this fork would fit a 29r, I want the 27.5 version because you can go bigger in the travel adjustment

    • @Dima-dc5mf

      Yes, it would fit. But 2.5 or 2.6 tyre max

    I have a question you might have an answer for: I bought the 2018 SR Suntour Aion 35 27.5+ fork and plan on running it on my 27.5x3" Specialized Fuse. Only after purchasing it, I've come across comments online saying the fork only fits tires up to 2.8" wide. Do you know if that fork could fit a 27.5x3" tire? If not, would there be any harm in just switching out my front tire for a 27.5x2.8" tire? Let me know what you think.

    Excuse me! There is no way I can take of the lowers!! I've followed step by step all your indications, and it's useless....the lowers don't come off. Is as if the "spring legg" is glued to the lowers, it rebounds but no way it's coming off!! Am I missing something?? I would realy appreciate some advise and help! Buy the way, my fork model is an Aion E45 Boost (same as the Aion 35 boost 2018)

    • @ToogyHowser
      @ToogyHowser  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the first time you do it, it takes a big of force to get them off. If the nuts are off the bottom of the stanchions there is nothing else holding it together, just need to pull down harder, might have to tap the bolts sticking through the stanchions with a rubber mallot to break them free?

    • @cyrusnikko6053
      @cyrusnikko6053 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      epixons has four adjustment options through a spacer fixed by a pin in the main shaft. you can pop the pin, place the spacer to your desired travel and put the pin back in. travel is from 80/100/120/140
