I'm a 60 year old Brit guy living in the US for over 30 years and never been a serious fan any pop or rock group or genre--until I randomly encountered SNSD thanks to 'Tiffany's best friend', TH-cam, just 1 year ago!. This special arrangement is highly calculated to manipulate emotions BUT also to express the genuine emotions, of the SNSD members, and to acknowledge the emotions of the truly dedicated fans. The public record from SM, from Jessica, and the relative silence from the rest of SNSD about Jessica's departure was a complete mess. But this performance was put together by SNSD and SM and it negates all the confusion and murkiness that occurred as Jessica finally exerted her individuality, and the both SNSD and SM tried to grapple with that. I'm sure I've watched this 25 times and it pretty much makes me cry every time. Technically, it's superb stagecraft, but it's not driven by technicalities, it is driven by heartfelt emotion. And actually you two beautiful ladies--I think I've watched and enjoyed all your SNSD reaction videos--did not get as teary as I did just now. LOL. It's a pleasure to see you still doing these reactions, it fits perfectly with the mutual support and friendship of SNSD's OT9.

Aww! Thanks Tildi, sweet of you. Zozo''s comment that there was some criticism about their openness and honesty on variety shows and interviews was something I was not aware of but I suspected they were unusual in that respect--and it makes sense given the conservative ( and rather complicated) public social rules in Korean society (especially regarding girls' behavior and image).
Before I saw a single M/V of theirs, I got to know them first through School of Rock--Girls Go to School (and then a few more shows, like 3-Color Women, and Happy Together) so although I was super impressed with the effort they put into ITNW (a remarkably demanding song and dance, especially for a debut) but it was their chemistry, charm, irrepressible wit, good humor, hilarious sarcasm and genuine goodness-of heart that captivated me first and foremost--so that's why I get so teary every time I see them so sad.in this beautiful performance.
The fact that they didn't all just fall apart during this, and that even as they struggled, they made damn sure to sing at their best. Team Leader Taeyon and 'Manager' Tiffany really showed their mettle. If anyone asks me why I like SNSD, "what's so great about them?", I'll just pull up this video and say, "THIS is why!--Get your own tissues, I need all of mine!." :D
Hi Simon, I’m a long time sone and just want to say I love how you perfectly described this performance :) despite of the dramatic arrangement & stage act, people are not crying over its musicalities but due to the emotions the girls were delivering and it just took a jab to us all. This performance is so pure, so beautiful yet so painful at the same time.

*It was supposed to be also the goodbye and farewell concert for Jessica to leave SNSD and start her own life (yes, it was long learned by K-SONEs that she had been wanting to leave SNSD for more than one year) but somewhere along the way, bridges were badly burned and relationships turned so sour that it was no longer possible for Jessica to perform in her last concert as a member of SNSD.*
*So technically, in a way, SNSD performed in an event where the main person was actually absent and they had to send her off like this. Imagine if the send-off was done as originally planned. It would have been a much more happier ending for Jessica. Sometimes, things do not unfold as one would have wanted. The journey will now have to go on as eight.*

Zozo I really appreciate how you noted that Taeyeon was the only one who wasn’t crying but the sadness is there in her voice and thats the only thing she could do… back then, some people were mean to her because ‘she was not crying over a member’ but really, all her best friends were a sobbing mess and someone need to carry the performance.. just because she wasnt crying didnt mean she was in a happy state.

Yes. I've only been a fan for 1 year (not much of a devoted fan of any genre of popular music) but, unexpectedly captivated by my first exposure to SNSD as singing and dancing performers, I learned more about them through Korean variety shows first, rather than their MVs--so I learned about the relationships between the members, and as a group, as they lived and worked outside of concerts and music shows. That whole performance was deeply personal, and though Sunny really couldn't perform at all, and the rest struggled through, it shows how great and special they were ( and still are) in creating and working through that performance.

This performance tore the hearts of sones from all over the world. It happened just the day after Jessica was kicked out.
I just hope that companies of 3rd generation kpop would learn these girls experiences. TOO MUCH micromanaging of artists lives can destroy people and groups. After all, they are just human beings.
Watching this live should be considered the challenge "try not to cry" because every time I watch, I cried, I cried a lot!
I miss the time that the group had 9 members, however, I am still SONE in 2020.

少女時代は日本でも活動していて、日本語でalbum3枚出してます。そして、日本でBEST albumが発売されるまでになりました。その記念で彼女達の目標だった東京ドームでその年の12月に一夜限りのコンサートを開催しました。観客動員数50,000人です。この曲はアンコール前の最後の曲でした。いつも日本のコンサートではあまり歌いません。この年の夏にジェシカちゃんが脱退した事、また夢だった東京ドームでのライブが実現した事でメンバー全員が泣いてしまい、観客も泣いていたのを思い出しました。
よかったら、日本の曲もいい曲がかなりあるのでリアクション動画楽しみにしていますね。
