We were gifted a 7qt crock pot for our wedding. It was too large for just husband & me, but the perfect size for my parents who still have 5 children living at home! We re-gifted it to my mom & she got us a smaller 3 qt one that takes up less space and doesn’t leave us with huge amounts of leftovers. So far I’m happy with our decision 😊
I’ve seen several TH-camrs say you should throw away your instruction manuals because they always go online to look up what they need if they have a problem or question. I never go online for that type of stuff when I have the manual. It’s easier for me to find the information in the manual than to do a search online. To each his own, but I’m keeping my manuals.
I keep all mine too. I have them all contained in an accordion file holder by category😬It certainly doesn’t take up much space and I have the space. I LOVE to include the manual if I end up donating something! And the built-ins will have all their manuals when I sell the house!😂🤣
Keep mine in the filing cabinet in a folder called instructions 😂 just looked at the one for my brand new washing machine to deep fill, because it's like flying an airplane to use the new washing machines 😂 used to throw the clothes in and turn them on with small medium and large load, now the top locks on you, it senses, takes twice the time to wash, hardly wets the clothes, did not work well with the bleach, I now have a dalmatian look towel 😂🤣
Same. For some I'll download the PDF from the manufacturer immediately so I have it for after the model I own is discontinued (or heaven forbid the company no longer exists) .
True story: I was visiting my sister and helping her her clean and organize her house and no joke at the bottom of her sons who was 10 at the time was 10 belts for his dress pants which he only wore on Sundays to church. She kept buying more because she/he could never find them. They were all at bottom of closet under a pile of clothes. This is why you need to go through your stuff often!!!
Hi I feel the same about dvd’s and cd’s! I have some that I absolutely love watching so I put them in pretty baskets with tops. So you can’t see them and the baskets look nice on the shelf. I have decluttered over 50 bins and I still try to keep things organized. I think that we all have to decide what is right for us. Great ideas ❤
I’m mid eighties doing the very, very difficult Swedish Death Cleaning…..saying good by to many things I love, but, alas, non of the kids do! It’s all good, and I will survive the space shock and will feel really fine when it’s over.
Good for you, I never felt I could introduce the concept of Swedish Death Cleaning to my Mum. She was a real clothes hoarder and nik nak collecter. We are now struggling to get rid of all her clothes, obscene amounts that she hasn't worn. I hope your kids appreciate how helpful you are being, especially as you still love your stuff but have accepted that some reducing in amount is required. Ex
Doing the same ! Love my kids too much to saddle them with extra work when I depart ! Plus it’s giving me the freedom to be able to move to a smaller place when the time comes !
That is amazing. What a distressed for kids.I am 61 and starting to simply. My kids do not want my old worn items. We do have tons garage stuff but it’s finally organized and sorted. They can use or sell or donate.
A little story: A SIL of mine obtained some pallets and two structured tents (the kind people park cars under when they don't have a garage) and had my husband set them up in her backyard during his vacation so she could (wait for it...) store empty boxes she will need if she has to return the products that came in them -- much she no longer owned. Winter in Colorado turned all the boxes to mush. Undaunted, she had my husband spend more vacation time to toss those and spend hours in the sun readjusting the tents for what turned out to be empty cardboard boxes. A year later, she asked him to do the same thing because...cardboard/snow. He did not comply because of the definition of insanity.
I'm keeping the manuals, I don't always have internet. I throw out what I don't have, unless I put it with a donation. Love your content, thanks for so much useful information! Love Ruthie
I absolutely loved this! You definitely nailed the conversation that’s going on in my head daily. So I think today I will let go of the electrical cords that I keep hanging on to and have no idea what they go to.
Well, yes. After Hurricane Milton,we had no internet, so we needed dad's, I got rid of all mine a few years ago, I had to borrow some😂. And I do still buy a good cd at yard sale 😊
Don’t use the Insta pot but love my crockpot! To each his own lol I do get your point though. Been on a decluttering binge for a year. About to do another whole house pass.
I recently created a folder in my phone gallery where I save pictures of my kids' artwork. I get to look at the pictures long after the paper versions are gone. I show them the pictures as they get older which helps us all appreciate the before and still have space for the now. As for other things around the house, I have ALOT to declutter, getting there!😊
Same on the no streaming services! I have my binder of DVDs (saves on space instead of keeping all the cases) and society can pry it out of my cold dead hands 😅
I declutter anything I don’t need, use or love on a daily basis. I also try not have duplicates or excess. I love and enjoy a simple minimalst essentialist lifestyle.
Wow. I am struggling to get to that point! Bought tons of extra in my prepper days but not doing that now. Then my daughter moved back in with her husband and daughter for a year so I lost all my storage space. Everything went to the basement and now I can’t get t the bins. Ugh!
I watched that documentary four years ago and am now done declutterring my house, but it is never done because stuff can creep back in and then I chuck it again 🎉 I love your videos!!
As far as the instruction manuals, I keep mine in a looseleaf binder. I have old appliances (inherited from the previous homeowners), which aren’t always easy to find online.
I really enjoyed this and was laughing my head off as omg you hit so many items I have problems letting go of!!!! And all the things u say to yourself about why u shouldn’t throw them out!
Ooo, Gilmore Girls 😍 I got the entire series from a library sale for like...idk...20 bucks a couple years ago? It takes up a TON of room but until we have money for the big, compact version, it's fine. I *make* room!! We are the same, btw. No TV or streaming. Everything we watch is DVDs or VHS tapes (yes, really) that we own or we borrow from the library. We are working on watching all of the ones we own to see if we like them enough to keep.
Some charity shops/ secondhand shops accept glass jars. I collect a few then drop them off at one of these shops. People buy them if they make jam, pickles etc.
Get a plastic file box and separators and then file all your paper work. We also attach the receipt to the manuals. We keep the file box in our bedroom closet.
I was smiling and laughing throughout this entire video😊 I love your enthusiasm! I’m currently on my decluttering journey and can relate to your entire list. Thank you❤️
Remember social media makes things look easy! If you are overwhelmed, you're perhaps at the beginning of your decluttering journey, start by simply putting a trash bin/container (with a roll of bags inside) into each room. This is there now so that anytime you are in that room and find rubbish it has somewhere to go right away. When full, that bag comes out, gets tied up, replaced with a new one and taken out of the house immediately. Also into each room put a donation box, again, anytime you handle something in that room you no longer want, and it is in a condition to donate pop it in that box. Once full get it out of the house! That way you can make a little progress each day. Remember it probably took years and years to accumulate the excess! It'll take a while to get rid of it appropriately too!
I have an Instant Pot and I decluttered my crockpot! Then I realized my IP "crockpot" wasn't big enough for my crockpot recipes - so I had to repurchase one! Oops! lol! Mind you, the crockpot is the ONLY item I have decluttered through the years that I repurchased! I DO save my large empty boxes - for my recycling. I toss all of my smaller items to recycle into the larger box. Once I month, I drive to my local recycle center and toss it in the bin!
I have decluttering the cabinet in my bathroom. It’s just the old metal cabinet that I got. It was full of old medicine vitamins just stuff that I put in there but now since I’ve watched you, I’m going in there tomorrow morning and I’m going to take everything out because I can put it if I need it under the sink in that bathroom which I’m sure there’s stuff under the sink that needs to be thrown out. I know there is. I’m going to the cabinet under the sink in the kitchen and throw all that away which I have no telling.. and also I’m getting rid of the cabinet in the bathroom. clean out the bathroom cabinet under the sink in my bedroom, but I’m recheck that again and then I’m gonna start in my closet. There’s not many clothes I can throw away cause I don’t have that many anymore cause I already done that and I’m going through the China cabinet, and get rid of all the little knickknacks they have no meaning anymore that are collecting dust. and decluttering my pots and pans which I might declutter the rest of them, which is a good idea cause I don’t cook anymore. I’m single older female and I hate cooking now. No big meals for me. Thank you for the reminder of getting rid of stuff so when it’s time for my kids to clean out they won’t be anything much to get rid of. and I take all my stuff declutter to a animal shelter has a resale store that sells all this stuff and the money goes for the animals and that’s the way I give back all the fur babies.❤❤❤❤❤❤
You remind me of Joyful Noise (she's a homeschool mom on here) and Melissa Joan Hart. I just love your personality, your energy, just...all of it lol I am in bed under the weather today and stumbled across this. I think I'm going to binge you for a bit before prying myself *out of* bed to go to start dinner 😊
Clothes that I bought for my fantasy self, and ones I bought a size too small thinking I'd slim into them. I need to get rid of them, but it's hard. I aim to have a capsual wardrobe, but that's going to cost money. Argh. I'm pretty ruthless with everything else though.
I did that over the years too, thinking I'd never fit them again. I wasn't huge by any means, but I certainly wasn't a Skinny Minnie anymore. I just had padding. Haha. Well, fast forward to me accidentally losing weight and I'm really glad I kept a few things for "maybe someday." A good chunk of it is actually too big :-/ I am going through everything and I'm boxing up things I like that are too big for the provable inevitability that I gain at least some weight back. It's proven too hard and too much of a hassle to go out and buy secondhand. Especially when you live in a place that doesn't have many secondhand clothing stores. Sure, I could sew my own, but again...TIME. And I'd need fabric and thread, which can get costly. That said, I'm certainly not keeping all of it. I'm limiting myself because I've only got so much room to store stuff. All of my clothes fit in probably 6 or so big boxes. My goal is 3 or 4 by the time we move again. Wish me luck lol
The only reason I have boxes right now is with Christmas approaching I am keeping them in case I need some to put gifts in because sometimes the boxes you buy are not the right size or an item is too awkward to fit in a gift bag. But I am being very picky on which ones I am keeping but once Christmas is over the boxes will be leaving.
The key to the children’s clothes (other than a small wardrobe, since anyway they grow constantly) is organizing the clothes from the beginning by size/age and separate each category (I used cloth bags and put inside a paper that says what size the clothes are). It was a lifesaver that I did that when my eldest was growing, once number two came around, I knew exactly where to get the clothes I needed. On the cords my only criticism is that the idea of “you can buy it later again if needed” is okey only if you don’t overdo it. If you’ve held onto said cords for 5-10 years, definitely consider getting rid of them or giving them away if they’re functional. The idea of “I’ll just buy it again if I needed it” isn’t great in the context of how our society overall overspends. Spend wisely and declutter as wisely as you can!
Get outta my head! I’m probably double your age, but my brain works just as you described….its a sickness! LOL! Trying hard to cut the ties with crap I don’t need, the struggle is real! 😅
Masking tape and indelible marker. Mark the date you set an appliance or other broken item aside for repair. Give it 60, 180 or whatever amount of time decided to get it done. Then, let it go if t never happens.
Thank you for the “permission” to get rid of DVD’s. I have resentment about not being able to copy them into a more current format, but also don’t have a working DVD player - so they only cause me grief!
Jewelry is hard to let go of. I'm not talking about real good quality but like costume jewelry or cute holiday stuff. The astounding amount of costume jewelry is ridiculous. It's so challenging to sit there and go through it all. 😅
Please take electronics to electronics recycling. The materials are used and kept out of landfill. You drive on ground up electronics often. It’s one of the best road surface ingredients.
So I just ran across this video. I loved the title on the thumbnail "You don't need this stuff" as it caught my attention then the title of the video itself "16 things to Declutter Right now". I was very interested in what this video was about, so I clicked on it. I was literally intent on listening to what you had to say. Then I got to where you talked about cords. I get it. I hate having an abundance of cords too and not using them and having to store them away. However what I don't get is that minimalists and or Intentional living is supposed to be about not having a lot of stuff (consumerism) and saving money but in the same breath, then why tell us to donate or trash these certain items and then go on to tell people if you really needed that item, you can go just buy another one? Really? So this is me, if you have the space for said items, why not just keep them? Who is it hurting if you actually store them away in a cabinet that you can't see unless you open it, I just don't get why you tell me to get rid of then say if you Really needed the item, just go out and buy another one to replace it. Just saying. But getting rid of things that you have no idea what it is or what it goes to makes sense to get rid of that item.
This is a valid point and I’ve honestly thought about it quite a bit for awhile. I’d like to do a video on it at some point, because I think it’s definitely worth talking about!
@aflourishingplace Thank you, I appreciate the feedback. I wasn't trying to be rude in any way, however I'm seeing a trend with minimalists and or simple living podcasts say, If you get rid of the item, but yet down the road, you need it, just buy another one just sounds so catalyst to me.
Lightbulb moment - I’m tossing our instruction manuals first thing when I’m through the door. Just been adding and never subtracting 15 years worth, taking up a filing bin for no reason!
Old towels came in handy for a plumbing backup that exploded all over the basement. And again when the water heater needed a new doohickey. And for an overflowed toilet that flooded the bathroom, hallway, and went down the floor vent into the basement before we could stop it. And for cleaning up midnight stomach upsets, covering plants when it's too cold, and many MANY other things. That said, I think we might have too much surplus. The extra extras are going in bins to give to our children so they'll have them. I've already got bins of kitchen utensils, blankets, all kinds of things to get them started when they get to that point. If you can't find a humane society to take them, try nearby homeless shelters, battered women's shelters, churches and local schools might be able to discreetly help those in need. If nothing else, put in a box at the end of your driveway (if you have one).
Dont throw out old bed sheets, blankets and toweling. I also have friends with children who do a lot of camping and they prefer taking old towels and bedding along. Animal rescue centers always need them. During Covid, I pared down my canning jars by half by donating them to thrift stores. They were so happy to get them as new ones were very expensive and in short supply. I do a big declutter two or three times a year. But my best method is simply not buying much new.
Oh my gosh! I want to get rid of our crock pot but my husband won't let me. I have even pointed out that his insta pot slow cooks, but he still won't let me get rid of it. Why? Because it's a different shape. What?!
My husband love the crock pot said he knows exactly what and how to put into it. I have the Instant Pot that we both love for items I cook in it. We also have now an air fryer and my electric skillet that I have had for years, I am starting to wonder if I really need my stove oven, oh wait I fry eggs on the stove top.
I don't really mind any household chores or cleaning but one thing I absolutely detest is when kids out grow their clothes and I have to go through them. 😂 I don't know why it bugs me so much.
Don't throw canning jars away. Give them to goodwill or someplace like that. People can use those to steralize and can things. There's so much waste. Don't buy stuff, then throw it away, then buy some more. You're just filling up the dump.
What a perfect trade 😃
I’ve seen several TH-camrs say you should throw away your instruction manuals because they always go online to look up what they need if they have a problem or question. I never go online for that type of stuff when I have the manual. It’s easier for me to find the information in the manual than to do a search online. To each his own, but I’m keeping my manuals.

I keep mine too, but it's very useful to go through them now and then. You'd be surprised how many can go
It’s so true!!! 😳
Hi I feel the same about dvd’s and cd’s! I have some that I absolutely love watching so I put them in pretty baskets with tops. So you can’t see them and the baskets look nice on the shelf. 50 bins, way to go!! 😃🙌
I’m mid eighties doing the very, very difficult Swedish Death Cleaning…..saying good by to many things I love, but, alas, non of the kids do! It’s all good, and I will survive the space shock and will feel really fine when it’s over.
Wow, this is amazing. Good for you! What a gift for your kids. ❤️
You are so thoughtful! What do your kids say?
Good for you, I never felt I could introduce the concept of Swedish Death Cleaning to my Mum. She was a real clothes hoarder and nik nak collecter. We are now struggling to get rid of all her clothes, obscene amounts that she hasn't worn. Those canning jars are my drinking glasses/ storage/ everything glasses and I mean everything
Love it! 😊
I got rid of fancy drinking glasses in favor of the canning jars!
Some people never learn. 😅
How selfish of her
I'm keeping the manuals, I don't always have internet. I throw out what I don't have, unless I put it with a donation. Love your content, thanks for so much useful information! Love Ruthie
Makes sense, thanks for watching! 😊
Put them in a binder with the covers and label on exterior
I absolutely loved this! You definitely nailed the conversation that’s going on in my head daily. So I think today I will let go of the electrical cords that I keep hanging on to and have no idea what they go to.
Yeah!! 🙌😜

Tag every charger cable as you get it. That way all the cords in the cord box are identified.
Brilliant.
I watched that documentary four years ago and am now done declutterring my house, but it is never done because stuff can creep back in and then I chuck it again 🎉
I love your videos!!
Yes, the clutter creep!! I can totally relate. Thanks for watching. 😊
Gilmore Girls season one is the best!!
As far as the instruction manuals, I keep mine in a looseleaf binder. I have old appliances (inherited from the previous homeowners), which aren’t always easy to find online.
Binder is a great idea! Everything would be so easy to access!
@@aflourishingplace It is. I did the same thing with my previous home and left the binder for the buyers when I sold.
I really enjoyed this and was laughing my head off as omg you hit so many items I have problems letting go of!!!! And all the things u say to yourself about why u shouldn’t throw them out!
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it! 😊
First time watching you and I love your personality and cheery no-nonsense point of view. I’m a subscriber for sure.
Thanks very much! 😊

Yes, I’ve totally done the “size too small” thing. It’s so easy to do!

It’s a fair point!
So glad I ditched my crockpot about 10 years ago! ❤ you touched on the guilt inducing scary stuff- manuals, cords and mystery parts.
So glad I’m not the only one! 😂
Lol I have 3 in different sizes that I use on a regular (or at least semi-regular) basis. And a triple sectioned one I haul out on holidays.
Would not get rid of my crockpot.
Hi there…… small children really need very little❤️
This is so true
I just redid my clothes in my closet to comfort style😅I’m going to retire in May after 42 years of teaching I’m ready to chill
I love this! 😃
I had a shoe box full of maps on my shelf just like yours. lol Finally got rid of it a few years ago.
Yay! 😊
Great list! I love to declutter! 💓
It’s always so satisfying! 😃
Maybe it’s a belt? Easy to change and when it goes bad it does make a noise on a vacuum.
I bet you’re right! It still suctions great, but sounds awful! 🤣
I got up and recycled some manuals. Lol. Thanks
Yippee! 🙌😃
Get outta my head! I’m probably double your age, but my brain works just as you described….its a sickness! LOL! Trying hard to cut the ties with crap I don’t need, the struggle is real! 😅
It is so real, you’re not alone!
Crafting supplies...YIKES!!!
Oh man, yes!! 🤪 They can be so tough because EVERYTHING can potentially be used in a project!
I have that vacuum. 😂 I bought it twice. I also have a or two box of cords and some manuals. 😂
Yes, I love this vacuum!! 😍
Masking tape and indelible marker. Mark the date you set an appliance or other broken item aside for repair. Give it 60, 180 or whatever amount of time decided to get it done. Then, let it go if t never happens.
Love this! 😊
Old meds to Local PD. Old towels to local pet shelters!!
Love it
Thank you for the “permission” to get rid of DVD’s. I have resentment about not being able to copy them into a more current format, but also don’t have a working DVD player - so they only cause me grief!
You bet! 😊
Jewelry is hard to let go of. I'm not talking about real good quality but like costume jewelry or cute holiday stuff. The astounding amount of costume jewelry is ridiculous. It's so challenging to sit there and go through it all. 😅
This is totally true!
Please take electronics to electronics recycling. The materials are used and kept out of landfill. You drive on ground up electronics often. It’s one of the best road surface ingredients.
Yes, great point! 😊
As I am using that exact crockpot for dinner right now
😊
Decluttering shoes right now as we speak
Yes!! 🙌😊
Lightbulb moment - I’m tossing our instruction manuals first thing when I’m through the door. Just been adding and never subtracting 15 years worth, taking up a filing bin for no reason!
Yay! 😁
Old towels.. I think I will use them as rags but doesn't happen. I keep a humane society donation box going for these ..
That’s great! 😊
Yep I keep rags in garage to clean car etc then throw them away when done. Also limit what you keep only keep a small bin of them the rest can go.
I love this! And yes, less buying is always the best decluttering method! 😃
Great video!!❤
Thanks for watching! 😊
If you have vases you don’t want, check with your local florist. Most would LOVE your donation.
Had no idea, great suggestion!
sheets and towels!
Yes!!
First time watching you. You are so cute and fun to watch.
You are so kind, thank you! 😊
Minimalism documentary is on YOU TUBE.
Yes, it is! 🙌
You throw those chords away, you'll need it the next day. Lol
Not going to say a scenario like this has never happened over here…🤪
Canning jars can be donated to thrift stores. People actually use them.
For sure! 😊
New sub here!
Hey, thanks for watching! 😊
Oh my gosh! I want to get rid of our crock pot but my husband won't let me. I have even pointed out that his insta pot slow cooks, but he still won't let me get rid of it. Why? Because it's a different shape. What?!
Those are always fun conversations! 😜
Beware of the angry Hoarder !
New sub
Thank you! 😊
I don't really mind any household chores or cleaning but one thing I absolutely detest is when kids out grow their clothes and I have to go through them. 😂 I don't know why it bugs me so much.
It’s true!! I’m the same! 😂
When washing time goes in, have a bin or box to chuck at....when full...donate to homeless shelter or thrift shop
Gilmore girls is the best. ❤
It is! 😜
I want your Crock Pot! I need one. I am in Pa. !!
❤️
Probably the only thing I have decluttered, and regret is my beadmaker.
Linen
Yes!!
Don't throw canning jars away. Give them to goodwill or someplace like that. People can use those to steralize and can things. There's so much waste. Don't buy stuff, then throw it away, then buy some more. You're just filling up the dump.
Absolutely true!
Kitchen gadgets and utensils.
For sure!
❤
I hate it ! Hate it! Hate the crack pot !!
I´ve used it in other peoples kitchens and that´s why i NEVER bought one :D
I thought I was the only nut that held onto random parts and pieces.
Haha, nope! 😂
BLANKETS!!!!!!!!!
Oh Yeah... Life's short, Talk fast.
Sorry you should keep your instruction manual. Only get rid of it when you throw away the item.
She is going bald from the tight ponytail
No, she’s not. What’s the matter with you?
