When I saw the show live, I honestly thought Simone improved the original - the "I soar on the breeze" sounded SO incredibly smooth! And I LOVE Sharon Den Adel's voice, maybe even more than Simone's - even if I'm not a Within Temptation fan at all.

I was at this particular performance (I saw two of the four full shows in Tilburg). It still gives me goosebumps to this day. Absolutely outstanding, mesmerizing experience.
Arjen is just a genius, much like Zappa in how he creates the scene and executes it all. Also, have to add how much fun the musicians/ singers seem to be having.

So yeah, Technically, Ayreon is not a band, best way to describe it is a "musical project". Arjen writes stuff and everyone else is a guest. It's like an All-Stars series of albums.

i came looking for this comment on the mistake, but yeah, it was honest and the show must go on. as for Hansi... goddamnit, Hansi. it's kinda sad, really. i mean, as an amateur musician i value having fun on the stage. but when pro's have given me the opportunity to share the stage, they have taken rehearsal and soundcheck very seriously and the actual performance even more so... because your audience paid hard-earned coin to see you play music they love. it's almost businesslike and transactional: you are collecting money from them as clients for a product (live music) and service (showmanship) you are providing. it's gotta be worth every cent if you want them to remain returning customers. in the case of ayreon.... people from all over the world go to the netherlands to watch all these amazing musicians pouring their hearts and souls for their fans. botching a performance and laughing it off like Hansi does could be very well construed as disrespect to the art and the fans. or maybe it's just a defense mechanism, who knows? You'd think in the nearly 40 years of fronting Bling Guardian he would've considered the transactional nature of the music industry. Dude has put the majority of his life into the art and the business and succeeded, think we owe him a pass on a fuck up here and there.

I admire Hansi to an extent, and I admire Arjen and his masterpieces even more, which is why his botching multiple performances and brushing it off by laughing about it bothers me more than just a little. I felt it justified that his voice was buried below Lisette van den Berg's in the performance of Everybody Dies in post-production. Anyway, good talk!
