lets see Ed started in Gorefest "fast eddy" , one of the best and respected dm bands. he has his own doommetal project(11th hour) which is kinda good and he can sing clean as well.
Just an observation from somebody in the 🇺🇸 . There’s something really, really special about the Dutch music community, especially in the rock/metal scene. I can’t quite put my finger on what “it” is, but there’s no denying “it” exists. So much so that now, if I find a band/group/singer is from the Netherlands I have an almost automatic bias in their favor.
I get how you feel, the Dutch metal scene, especially with the popular ones used to be very popular in Europe, and now that things have changed that America,Canadian audience get to see them is for them very grateful that their talents are finally being acknowledged, and their secret is that they are very humble about it without the need to say anything else or to show off.
Well, that's easy: there is much talent cooperating. The result is a lot of epic songs. Sharon duetting with Anneke, Anneke having Marcela for backing vocals, Marcela, Lisette and Irene performing as Ayreon's Angels, Irene duetting with Floor, Floor with Simone, Simone with Charlotte,just to name the incredible amount of highly skilled female vocalists...
Its honestly a dream of mine to see Irene take to the stage of a Nightwish concert and duet with Floor. I doubt it will happen but I can live in hope. Irene has a powerful voice of her own and there are echos of a sound that shows a familial similarity to Floor with a different flavour. How amazing would it be to hear them sing together with Nightwish

These ladies are individually so talented, but together, completely sublime! Arjen just gathers the absolute best of the best, and in my mind, it starts with Arjen and Joost. Two musical geniuses beyond reproach.
Ah... The Ayreon univers try-out show two weeks before the proper ones... much smaller than the main stage shows, mostly just the band, dutchies and under studdies. Arjen watched most of this from the front of housedesk. (right in front of me), before heading up to the stage. They asked to keep the setlist a secret until the main shows, and yes, these ladies are top notch, just like the band...
Only now discovering Ayreon! Love how not only has he got these amazing singers in Irene, Marcela and Lisette but he has also had Floor, Anneke and Brittany Slayes collaborating. Arjen knows his singers, without a doubt!
Wow this is amazing and I'm so glad they did this and they're right all three of these singers are actually lead singers I'm actually blown away by Irene I mean I've heard her sing with floor before and I've heard her doing back up but this is the most I've heard her sing individually and oh my God what a talented family LOL
I like to think she has the same talent as Floor or even greater but not the ambition to do lead vocals. (Just the thought of a nobody... She really has an amazing voice and nice appearance in the Universe show when she introduces the band members ❤)
Great to live in an time where this classical music is composed. My dance partner and I take Ayreon for dancing tango fusion. Very entertaining, doing more than listening.
Really enjoyable. All I can think of is: What is in the Netherlands' water that creates such awesome vocalists? Whatever it is should be exported world-wide.

Hi there, same here! Saturday matinee show. What an experience! And yes, Simone made quite an impression, not just vocally 😁 Had two homemade LUL! t-shirts (in binary) handy. One I managed to hand over to fluitist Jeroen Goossens and I gave the other one to YT'er "Frank" who was awaiting his VIP entrance tt evening show. He recognized my t-shirt when we got outside: "Hey Brendon, is that you?". Long story short: he gave the shirt to Ed Warby, who recognized it and said that the other one had been the talk of the dressing room haha, nice.

Thank you Brendon for uploading this. I'm a huge fan of Ayreon and Arjen's work and this is like just gold. I wonder if it's possible for you to upload the whole "the making of" documentary. Some of the fans like me can't get their hands on the DVDs considering where we live so it would be so helpful if you would do it.

What's a backup singer? One on stand-by, doing nothing, but always ready to step in, should the main singer fail? That's a weird concept for sure. Of course, these backing singers could also act as backup singers, if need be.😊

Lead vocalists doing harmonies that drive a song instead of merely backing it u.. beefing it up, what would the right term be for that? My favourite part is when Arjen says: "Yah Marcela.. what can you say abt Marcela" (interesting pronunciation there). Then both of them proceed to say a lot abt Marcela. As an avowed Bovioso, I approve of this section 😁

Maggy's English has a noticeable French flavour to it. She lives in Wallonia and I assume she's a native speaker in French. She grew up in Leuven tho, which is still Dutch language so she might as well be a native Dutch speaker too.
@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 That stand-in is called an understudy in the larger theatre/opera productions. Often that is another, younger member of the cast. While in pop and rock it may be acceptable that a show is cancelled if the main singer is ill, you can not stop a full production with hundreds of people involved because one person is ill. I have seen many times at the start of an opera that someone takes the stage, informs us that a lead singer is unable to perform and that someone else from the cast is taking over. (once even to great applause from the audience, but that is another story). As this footage shows, also for the Ayreon shows they effectively work with understudies, whether they call them that or not. Indeed some of the Ayreon Angels appear to be are understudies for some roles. But that is something different than 'Floor being the backup singer for Marko in the Islander', that is nonsense, she is backing, supporting him.
At the start of the show they (actually Mike Mills) told us that the show would be recorded (so that we could keep our phones in our pockets and fully enjoy the show), so hopefully you can enjoy the show at a later day at least a bit as well. It will be worth it, it was an amazing show.

Hallo Theo, ik zou het je van harte gunnen dat Arjen c.s. in Zuid-Afrika zouden opduiken. Gaat niet gebeuren, vrees ik. Zuid-Afrika zal naar NL moeten komen, zoals de rest van de wereld (geloof 54 nationaliteiten bij dit concert in 2017). Hansi en de rest stonden vol ongeduld te trappelen om hun optredens te doen tijdens de eigenlijke shows (het waren er drie). Deze beelden zijn van de try-out, vlak ervoor. Ik meen 1 of 2 dagen eerder, voor een select publiek. Vandaar de kleinere zaal etc. De NL zangers & de AA's waren prima in staat om de rollen te spelen van de internat. cast en dat is wat je hier kunt zien. Groet uit Amsterdam!

Hét Universe concert in 2017, Tilburg. Compilatie van de try-outs. Kleiner podium, met de NL zangers ipv de internat. cast. Zodoende krijg je stukjes van hele leuke alternatieve versies te horen. Helaas niet de volledige versies. Bij Lisette's "Actual Fantasy" moest ik een kunstgreep toepassen door een blend te maken met de eigenlijke concertversie (na het gefluisterde "actual fantasy" is het geluid en na het freeze-frame van Lisette ook het beeld van de concertversie ipv de try-out).

Bovendien ben ik een Jan Patat qua kaartje en jij slechts een ordinaire VIP. Er schijnen ook Giga-VIPs te bestaan en die zijn uitverkoren.

Maggy's English has a noticeable French flavour to it. She lives in Wallonia and I assume she's a native speaker in French. She grew up in Leuven tho, which is still Dutch language so she might as well be a native Dutch speaker too.
@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 That stand-in is called an understudy in the larger theatre/opera productions. Often that is another, younger member of the cast.
While in pop and rock it may be acceptable that a show is cancelled if the main singer is ill, you can not stop a full production with hundreds of people involved because one person is ill. I have seen many times at the start of an opera that someone takes the stage, informs us that a lead singer is unable to perform and that someone else from the cast is taking over. (once even to great applause from the audience, but that is another story).
As this footage shows, also for the Ayreon shows they effectively work with understudies, whether they call them that or not. Indeed some of the Ayreon Angels appear to be are understudies for some roles. But that is something different than 'Floor being the backup singer for Marko in the Islander', that is nonsense, she is backing, supporting him.

At the start of the show they (actually Mike Mills) told us that the show would be recorded (so that we could keep our phones in our pockets and fully enjoy the show), so hopefully you can enjoy the show at a later day at least a bit as well.
It will be worth it, it was an amazing show.

My grootste wens is dat Ayreon Suid-Afrika toe sal kom. Ek sal my linker nier verkoop vir 'n kaartjie in die eerste ry! Pragtig Arjen, Joost Irene, Ed, Marcela, Lisette, Jeroen, Marcel, Johan vS, Ben, Maaike en die dosyne ander. My verassing was groot toe ek oom Thijs met sy fluit op die verhoog sien. Ek neem aan dat mense soos Hansi, Tommy K en Floor en miskien Anneke te besig sal wees met hul ander bands/ projekte. Maak 'n plan Arjen!
Hallo Theo, ik zou het je van harte gunnen dat Arjen c.s. in Zuid-Afrika zouden opduiken. Gaat niet gebeuren, vrees ik. Zuid-Afrika zal naar NL moeten komen, zoals de rest van de wereld (geloof 54 nationaliteiten bij dit concert in 2017).
Hansi en de rest stonden vol ongeduld te trappelen om hun optredens te doen tijdens de eigenlijke shows (het waren er drie). Deze beelden zijn van de try-out, vlak ervoor. Ik meen 1 of 2 dagen eerder, voor een select publiek.
Vandaar de kleinere zaal etc. De NL zangers & de AA's waren prima in staat om de rollen te spelen van de internat. cast en dat is wat je hier kunt zien. Groet uit Amsterdam!

Waar was dat concert ⁉️ heb ik nog nooit gezien of van gehoord.
Hét Universe concert in 2017, Tilburg. Compilatie van de try-outs. Kleiner podium, met de NL zangers ipv de internat. cast. Zodoende krijg je stukjes van hele leuke alternatieve versies te horen. Helaas niet de volledige versies.
Bij Lisette's "Actual Fantasy" moest ik een kunstgreep toepassen door een blend te maken met de eigenlijke concertversie (na het gefluisterde "actual fantasy" is het geluid en na het freeze-frame van Lisette ook het beeld van de concertversie ipv de try-out).
@@BrendonChase_2015 nogmaals heel leuk om te zien. En goed gedaan. Ik wist helemaal niets van de try-outs, zijn er ook try-outs voor het aankomende concert?

(Geen idee dus. Maar ik neem aan van wel. Min of meer zoals bij de andere concerten, dus een volledige "play-through" van de hele set, maar nog zonder publiek en dan de try-outs voor een select gezelschap).

@@frank1963 Te gek idd, hoewel.. er is wel pers aanwezig en onze wederzijdse verstandhouding is nog altijd niet optimaal (stamt nog uit mijn tijd als drummert bij een roemruchte NL speedfunk formatie). Bovendien ben ik een Jan Patat qua kaartje en jij slechts een ordinaire VIP. Er schijnen ook Giga-VIPs te bestaan en die zijn uitverkoren.

The video and video description state that all ladies are lead singers. But Irene Jansen said that she is not singing on a daily basis. So, what gives? What band is Irene Jansen leading or should the video (description) be corrected?

Irene was in a band, long ago. They never really took off, and she decided not to pursue a career as a singer. She rarely performs since then.
