    When I make chocolate pudding, I always make the cooked pudding. To me it tastes so much better than the instant pudding. I know this will take delicious. Can’t wait to try it.

    • @SusanMillard
      @SusanMillard  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the compliments, Debbie, I had brought those pie shells out of the freezer - let them thaw then cooked them for this video. The secret is, 😉 when you bake an empty pie shell, as I had to do in this case you need to poke holes with the tines of a fork 🍴 in the bottom of the crust so that hot air can't push the bottom up in a bubble while it is cooking. Some people use weights like beans wrapped in foil to hold the bottom down but I prefer the fork method because it doesn't stop the crust from being fluffy. 😀 Smell a vision would be amazing wouldn't it? LOL, mmm. 😋

    • @debraafortuna
      @debraafortuna 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Susan Millard thanks for the tip you're so ambitious. I still buy ready made crusts. But still applies with the fork or putting beans in I would imagine. Love freezing them and just taking out ready to bake.

    • @SusanMillard
      @SusanMillard  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aww, so sweet of you to say! Yes, the fork or beans tip applies to empty ready-made pie shells too since the oven doesn't differentiate between homemade or store-bought shells. 😀

    This one looks yummy... But is it ok to use instant chocolate pudding for pie filling? I know cook and serve is definitely time consuming. Or is texture cook and serve different from Instant pudding? If then, which one would you prefer?

    • @SusanMillard
      @SusanMillard  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks! I think it is ok to use instant chocolate pudding for pie filling if you want. I believe it will be more of a softer (not as formed texture if you know what I mean) but it would serve the same purpose. The texture of the cook and serve comes in a bigger package and I believe the cook and serve requires the heat to thicken it. As for myself, I think I prefer the cook and serve type for pie filling and the instant for a quick dessert to whip up and chill in the fridge in a dish to be eaten with a spoon. Either way chocolate pudding is mmmmmm delicious. Thanks for watching and for your excellent questions. Which one would you prefer when it comes to pies? Have you tried to use instant chocolate pudding as pie filling, if so how did it work out? 😋🍫

      I use the jello brand instant pudding. The recipe calls for 2 cups of 2% milk.
      Alter the recipe to 1 1/2 cups of 2% milk.
      I sometimes use chocolate milk. And, I add 2 TBS's instant coffee..

    • @brendahall5419

      Definitely get a better texture and taste with the cook and serve. It's worth the extra time it takes to let it cool and set.

    I have a keebler graham cracker pie crust. Should i bake it before putting in the pudding?

    • @SusanMillard
      @SusanMillard  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t think you need to bake a graham cracker crust first. That being said if you’re doubtful about it you could always bake it for a few minutes to be sure. I don’t think 🤔 that would hurt either. I would probably just put the pudding in the crust as is, but totally up to you. Graham cracker crust pies are pretty good as is.

      @@SusanMillard hey Susan. So I made my pie but when I started to cut it, it was still liquid. This was after letting it set over night, do you know a solution, otherwise is it okay to eat while it is still runny

    • @SusanMillard

      The only thing I can think of is that the pudding was boiled long enough to thicken properly. That being said it will be okay to eat still since everything has been cooked but not thickened.

    • @SusanMillard
      @SusanMillard  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, it sounds like the pie filling is not setup properly. perhaps it needs to cook a little longer and then chill a little longer too. Also make sure you are using the proper amount of milk...extra liquid will make it runnier. Hope that helps and thanks so much for watching. 🖐😃 Have a great day.
