Pro tip on finding art, from an artist: Go hit up your local arts organizations, community centers, artist co-ops, and university galleries when you have them. You can get original works by local artists and/or students, typically for really affordable prices.
Yes!! I’m a film photographer and print my commissioned work on museum-grade paper. If clients or people looking at my site are on a budget and can’t invest in the purchase, I’m always happy to use different paper which can sometimes cut the cost 25 to 40%. Great idea to ask your favorite artists! :)
💯 and also check out printmaking spaces; a lot of people think printmaking is just litho repros of original art BUT printmaking has original art pieces made for the specific medium (screenprinting, etching, lino or wood cuts, lithographs, letterpress, etc.) in limited edition runs in a variety of sizes and often very affordable prices, especially for the ‘emerging’ collector
I subscribed for her unique takes, but what really clinched it for me was that she was describing her morning routine and she said "I wake up, then I take a whiz" :D Down-to-earth and funny
One of the things that's great about this video is it shows why good interior designers charge a lot of money -- they do A LOT of work! "Sourcing" is not just out shopping with your friends.
Paige (and Kate and team) THANK YOOOOU for the perfect suggestion! v excited to grab a cool lounger for my living room - will send pic updates once it’s home 🫡
Art tip: if there's a local artist you like that has expensive art, you can ask them if they ever sell prints, and sometimes the answer is yes! I've gotten a couple of beautiful prints by asking an artist directly through their website and framed it myself.
Same! I fell in love with this funky painting of a pigeon in a sweater drinking a cup of tea in a re-imagining of a famous Formosa Oolong Tea ad, and was able to get a print for $60 which is totally fair
The wood vanity at 7:32 could be a number of things. People in the comments are suggesting tiger maple or flame birch, which definitely look possible. I'd also suggest quarter-sawn oak. The logs are cut at a diagonal, which gives the wood distinct light, sometimes shimmery ripples that flow all over the grain. It's a more subtle grain than tiger maple, but especially on a darker-stained oak with the right lighting, the effect can be quite pronounced.
Went to a festival over the weekend where there were local artists set up in booths. I found so many wonderful original pieces for only 10 dollars a piece! One of the artists was almost 90 yrs old and her stuff was so awesome.
I think that wood on the cute desk was Birdseye maple. It’s my favorite wood also. I have a Birdseye maple writing desk that I use as a vanity in my bedroom. My mom bought it at a flea market and it’s the first piece of furniture that she ever bought. My dad replaced the top for me with a solid piece of Birdseye maple because it had really bad peeling veneer. It’s my favorite thing.
hi. you are darling. i've been an interior designer for more than 20 years and have been helping the friends of my 20 year old daughter, decorate their first apartments on a budget. A fun suggestion for oversized art is to buy a long roll blind, unroll it on the floor, and use it as a canvas. We did one with tracings of people overlapping and some sporadic blobs of color - and it was awesome. Because the blinds are weighted at top/bottom, they can be hung with ease without expensive framing. xo
In Germany we have “Studierenden Kunstmarkt” students at the most renowned art schools in the country sell their art through them.. as a student (not art though lol) it still is tooo much for me but for those who already work their prices are really good.
That GORGEOUS wood is most likely burled maple. It’s long been a favorite of mine too. I can’t believe how stunning that entryway piece is! Wow! Thanks a lot - now I’m doomed to spend my lifetime trying to find a piece just like that one ….and a place to put it! lol
I live under a rock and only found your channel recently when I was searching for ‘Apartamento’ magazine. Now have been binge watching and this is another great video! I love your recommendations and styling! I am a big fan of Toast, even tho it can be pricy, always watch out for their end of season discounts. I know you have some awesome sewing projects and if you like Toast, you’ll love Merchant and Mills for fabric!
I love how Paige kept turning into a radio dj with the microphone 😂 this video was great! I always love the ones with real people’s homes and you giving critiques/suggestions in one way or another
eBay and Etsy are great places to buy art. And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen sellers with art (and vintage home decor too) cross posted on eBay and chairish and the chairish listing is like double the price of their eBay listing. I’ve always figured that chairish takes a huge cut and that’s why sellers price so crazy high on the platform. Ive rarely spent more than $300 for art on eBay/Etsy and have had some great finds!
I’ve been collecting art for many years, especially from smaller artists, and Etsy used to be a really great place for that, but these days it’s sadly hard to find original stuff on there, so now I find IG the best place online to find smaller artists. Where I live there are small gallery type shops that will sell original pieces, and prints from small local artists, sometimes you can also find local art for sale at cafes. Usually local artists will have a open studio day now and then where they sell their pieces, and the art school has an end of year art show where they display and, sell students art for reasonable prices. If you’re looking for prints art galleries will often sell them. It’s also worth looking at what sort of things are on where you live, last year I went to this exhibition where small local artists would turn a room in their home into a temporary gallery, I ended up getting a cool original piece for a very reasonable price. Sometimes you can also find nice vintage art in vintage / antique/ charity / secondhand shops both online, and offline.
Love this sort of video! I appreciate how much time you poured into it! And how nice to see all sorts of homes with your wide variety of affordable suggestions. Pls do another!
In boston theres alot of nearby art schools ( check massart, and montserrat) that have open galleries for student work, that you can just buy. At massart they have a yearly auction of alumni and student work that has really good variety and you can check it out and make someones day!
Paige, I need to know if I can make/style a calendar in my kitchen in a nice way. Right now I have a chalkboard one and it’s okay. A kitchen calendar is essential for me but not very attractive. It could be a whole video about styling/ existing with/purchasing essentials/ non-aesthetic items (toilet brush, kids toys, toothbrush, fan)
I loved your rug video sent it to all my friends I actually think it’s one of your most useful formats, you could do a whole series on lamps, lounge chairs, side tables, esp if you continue to organize by variety of budgets
Paige talking about WVU wasn’t on my bingo card for the day but I’m cracking up - I’m from West Virginia and it really is THEE party school. I chose a smaller regional university, but visited friends fairly often on the weekends. Good times.
14:53 seeing lots of good tips for finding art, another one I will throw in is online auctions, I have been able to get some beautiful small abstract watercolours from the 70s by local artists for absurdly cheap, like paid $15 for one that was actually a postcard, so not only do I have this beautiful piece of art, the history is right on it (it was a woman artist that was writing another local artist saying how much she loved one of her recent gallery showings). Anyways AUCTIONS you will get some amazing art, and if you’re lucky you’ll get it way under value, I saw a sketch by a local art legend and it only sold for like $200, while his paintings sold for tens of thousands.
When I got to this part, I realized Paige was likely saying that the listing did not specify *what city* in the Netherlands the item was in - she doesn't know how far from Amsterdam the item might be. (However, it's definitely true that we Americans are far from the best at knowing info about other countries, so I truly want to thank you for the gentle reminder 😅 )
Thanks for your hard work on sourcing!! All of the team 😊 this is a very nice video. Also, i love all your glasses 😍 cant wait to see you new home update!
i always feel so validated the select number of times Paige mentions loving something i already own (this time the Marrow checked quilt) It was spensy but SO WORTH IT, it's the perfect weight for summertime and i'm planning to layer it with a duvet in the winter!
From a pretty small city and there are so many artists. I feel like in Boston, there has to be so many little funky shops with cool affordable art. If you don’t have a big budget, the bigger galleries are probably not going to have anything. Find the cool little funky shops. Another idea is the colleges. Contact the art department about any student sales they have.
Don't forget to get out into your local vintage/thrift/resale communities to of the states mentioned (Ohio and Virgina) have amazing resale shops. I don't live in either places but because I frequent and follow so many places in my own community the I find that I get ads for places in other states and have started to follow a large amount in Ohio, New Mexico, Virgina, ect.
My mom used to have a Lazy Boy recliner that was nice-looking. My issue is that those types of chairs are often so wide, and from the photo it doesn't look like that person has a lot of space. But my mom's was not oversized and it was upholstered with leather--the real thing. It cost a lot though! Lazy Boy CAN look good.
Yes, I invested in a burgundy leather recliner for my husband, yet he doesn't sit in the room it's in very often due to vaulted ceilings, which he can't hear in. Yet, I have had it for 17 years now and just keep it dusted and leather polish on it. They last forever if taken care of.
Such a great video! Also I’ve heard some creator talk about their video performance lately. They mentioned the algorithm is changing and not pushing videos to your normal viewers.
Great video! Thanks for the recliner suggestion, although sadly I think it sold or they took their post down. I’ll definitely look for something similar! My husband and I in fact went to West Virginia University and I can attest they know how to party 😅
To the person who wanted a reclining chair- the siesta chairs are very comfy and cool as hell! I have been looking for a pair for a while now and that is a GOOD price. They usually sell for around 700-1000 each

artist co ops are greattttt i’ve found amazing stuff at them

I'm gonna try this next month when I move with 2 suitcases to another country. There will be no room for art in them and not much budget haha
wait stop, I don't usually comment but your rug video was HUGE for me. So good and now I have great rugs.
echoing this comment I needed that vid
just the tip about getting a solid-colored wool rug was kinda lifechanging for me!!
Same! It’s still my favorite. 🥰 Wish she would do more just like it.
Same! Just bought a beautiful rug directly recommended from that video 😊
Agreed!

same here!!
For the record, I found this channel because of your rug video. I stayed for the deadpan delivery and unique takes.
I subscribed for her unique takes, but what really clinched it for me was that she was describing her morning routine and she said "I wake up, then I take a whiz" :D Down-to-earth and funny
relatable

Love the color of your eyeglass frames. 🥰
Wassel Sundays are my Fav
curtain tip! make curtains from nice sheets and duvet covers! you get good quality fabric and it's a lot of fabric bang for your buck
Art tip: if there's a local artist you like that has expensive art, you can ask them if they ever sell prints, and sometimes the answer is yes! I've gotten a couple of beautiful prints by asking an artist directly through their website and framed it myself.
There are also some great Art Collectives all over the place! Look up those near you to find super unique art/ceramics/etc
Same! I fell in love with this funky painting of a pigeon in a sweater drinking a cup of tea in a re-imagining of a famous Formosa Oolong Tea ad, and was able to get a print for $60 which is totally fair
This video really brings out your strengths. Practical suggestions for real people!! Well done!!
Agreed!

Most energy I’ve seen from Paige, ever
Yes! I usually change the settings to 1.25 speed when I watch her but i didn’t for this vid
You realize this isn't really a nice thing to say, right?
She did have mono I believe for a while that she finally got diagnosed and treated so maybe she's feeling a lot better
King size bed spreads make great curtain panels for big windows.

it looks like a figured maple but birds-eye is usually a bunch of pretty dots, not that "flame figure".
ummmmm ummm maybe it’s some type of fine grain tiger wood
@@freyjae6358 isn't that a golfer? 🤣😉
obsessed with your glasses !!
Your Etsy rug video is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES!

You and Caroline Winkler have assumed the role of comfort channels, for me. Thank you for all your hard work. 🙂❤️
favorite kind of wood: birds eye maple. You can't really get it anymore, only in vintage or antique items.
Courtney's space is 🔥 fire! Gawd, what a gorgeous living situation

Unrelated, but for the same person: you should take down your art by a few inches. It seems to be a tad bit too high near the ceiling
