There's a reason Conan wanted to put him on camera years ago. Jordan may ham it up sometimes for laughs, but he isn't playing a "character", that's really just how he is. He's the perfect straight man and it works so well in contrast to Conan.
He is absolutely real and knows how to play up things for a bit! During the Italy trip I thought him rubbing the wine glass on the table was a bit (his continuing to do it was absolutely a bit) but then I saw an old NYC video of them and he did the exact same thing on a wood table. It only went unnoticed since there was no noise. It’s always been real!

Conan is very serious -- about comedy. I truly believe Conan's "normal" is when he's most revelling in an absurd comedic premise and taking it as far as it can go. Many comedians / entertainers put on a persona when they perform and then go back to "normal" in private. Conan seems to just be the exact same guy in his private life as he is on stage.

He is just one of the greatest conversational comics of all time, and anyone interacting with him gets drawn into it. We of course see the recorded bits that are released. To say art has never been able to pull serious and deep emotions out of you sounds like such a depressing way to live. I love that these two wonderful people stuck together for so long. It may seem like they don't really like each other, but every conversation they have reveals something new and interesting through the way they interweave humor (Jordan's dry ironic one and Conan's goofy but well timed jokes) and subtle depth.
So far, the most serious I've ever seen Conan is either on the remote episode when he goes to Armenia with Sona and they visit the war museum and Sona starts crying, and a podcast episode where Sona talks about Conan's self distructive habits and a moment Conan said he felt sad and sorry for himself. But if that's the extent of his sadness / seriousness, then he is a really unusual person, because even in those few moments he still makes jokes. I've long, long wondered what he talks about to his therapist, whether is he truly 'real' with him / her, or is he still cracking jokes even while he talks through his pain.

I really believe the main reason why Conan is so insanely quick with his comebacks and amazingly random riffs is because he does bits all the time even off camera. We often think in retrospect ‘I should have said that’ long after a conversation/banter is over. With Conan, he probably has like 10 different smart comebacks/wits ready for any conversation because it’s right at the surface of his brain. Another reason should be him constantly writing and doodling.

Jordan Schlansky when I was younger made me realize why I love eccentric people so much. Ecocentrism is the true form of the self but because of social standards, we conform to a standard image (which is not to stand out) thereby denying our quirks and oddities, which are unique to us and make up the true self, not the false image conformed to society.
Conan may not necessarily get emotional watching movies, but we have absolutely seen him discuss movies with some sincerity and show that he has a pretty decent taste in films and a healthy appetite for cinema in general. But I understand that if it's Jordan talking, then Conan just has to double-down on the bit instead. It would have been nice to get more of a proper discussion going, but I get it.

I really believe the main reason why Conan is so insanely quick with his comebacks and amazingly random riffs is because he does bits all the time even off camera. We often think in retrospect ‘I should have said that’ long after a conversation/banter is over. With Conan, he probably has like 10 different smart comebacks/wits ready for any conversation because it’s right at the surface of his brain. Another reason should be him constantly writing and doodling.

Jordan Schlansky when I was younger made me realize why I love eccentric people so much. Ecocentrism is the true form of the self but because of social standards, we conform to a standard image (which is not to stand out) thereby denying our quirks and oddities, which are unique to us and make up the true self, not the false image conformed to society.
That's why Conan needs a friend, to have a person with who he can be himself around.

Conan may not necessarily get emotional watching movies, but we have absolutely seen him discuss movies with some sincerity and show that he has a pretty decent taste in films and a healthy appetite for cinema in general.
But I understand that if it's Jordan talking, then Conan just has to double-down on the bit instead.
It would have been nice to get more of a proper discussion going, but I get it.
I actually like that Jordan gave genuine props to Sean Evans, he really is a great host, even if Jordan didn't say or didn't know his name, lol
