Speaking of hauls… where’s the Tenu’s??? …..
Lol - They are on the way! I've got a couple lined up :)
Lithium Ion batteries are NOT cold-resistant AT ALL. Quite the opposite. If you charge a Li-ion power station in freezing temps you'll dedtroy it. I don't know exactly what happens but I watched many videos of portable power banks before choosing the EBL 500W system for subzero Vermont winters. Every single review of Bluetti, EcoFlow fast charging Li-ion units said thatbthe units had to be kept warm, somehow, in freezing temps. One guy built an insulated box with it's own designated space heater for his off-grid cabins power bank. I interpreted the varios reviews as it simply cannot have any charge in it in cold temps. I wasn't sure if the units just wouldn't charge in cold temps or it had to be charged in warm environment but could still be taken out camping in winter for use. Nope. It's risky to have the unit charged up then exspose it to subzero temps. No idea why. They never explained it. These guys were dedicated solar geek channels. It's all they do.
Small correction here, the powerbank you're referring to he said was Lithium Iron Phosphate, not Lithium Ion. Whilst charging them in freezing temps is a nono, the batteries themselves can be easily stored in freezing temps with much better voltage retention than a lot of other battery chemistries.
Then there's the distinction between using the battery and charging them, given that it's a powerbank and not something like a solar-connected set up, I don't think the cold weather charging issues really matter that much. You charge it in the warm indoors and use it in the cold, the batteries will warm up during discharge anyway.
