I’ve done it on lga 1151 board there was 24 bent pins but nowhere with speed took me like 7 hours
I would NEVER remove that CPU if this computer manages to post after the bent pins surgery

The motherboard was about $30 above the non-eva themed one when it was released iirc- he did not pay too much of a special markup if he's been sitting on the parts for "6 months"

15:30 the red wiring color actually realistically ascentuate the EVA 01 mech if you remember, theres do be red power supply cords to the mechs in the anime, it complements the theme even more to me. NERV logo was also red/blood orange-ish

I've actually used Linus' advice on socket surgery a few times recently. Revived a B460, H170, as well as a 5600G and 5800X. Lighting and angles are the absolute most important bit!

Two things. He has been with the company since fairly early days. As much fun as they have firing Colton, he is not someone who is easily fired.
The other is that he actually has a fairly high position at LMG. While you need to respect your boss and the chain of command, at some point you also become well in tune with what you can and cannot do.
Linus is channeling that "dad being explained his son's fave anime series and the merch he bought" energy very well.
Nice job with the bent pins. I know from experience that a bent pin can lead to trouble months later even if the pc did work fine initially.
Had a pc that was working fine for almost one and a half year but then started to randomly shut down during operation. The issue was so random that nothing i did could help to track it down. I would remove or reseat a component and then it worked fine for a couple of days snd then start again.
Turns out it was a single bent pin on the socket that probably shifted ver so slightly when moving the pc.
"Performance is temporary, Purple is forever." is now my absolute favourite LTT quote !

as a guy who helped a friend build this same themed build ASUS did NOT bung up, that power supply/AIO is meant to be theme for the company that made the mechs in the anime and the rest of the components are meant to be EVA 01 the mech that the main character uses.
as a note he is using the MSI case which is not part of the full build collab and is the reason the thor power supply was not fitting properly ASUS has a custom full tower to go with the rest of the build

Nope, they still bunged it up. Them being themed to something else, as you said, just explains how they managed to bung it up. Its a completely different color scheme that clashes with the rest of the things in that theme. Some underlying theme doesn't matter if your colors clash for no other design reason. It's a pretty basic aspect of theming.

I never watched that Anime, but I had friends who did, but even without the associated IP, I would’ve bought those parts purely for the color scheme.
Black, red, orange and blue are so played out when it comes to PC parts. It’s nice that just about everything matches, because everything is black white and grey with an accent color or two-but that purple looked sick with that green.

@@Dexx1s the reason for the power supply and AIO being the way they are is a call back to when the mech is in its hangar connected to all the machinery having the motherboard, GPU, being the mech held in its hangar by these wires while it waits for its next deployement
so yes it is in theme but you are correct they should have added some red accents to represent it more on the other pieces aswell, the case is like its stall since the stalls for the EVA mechs were collor coded

That build looks so good. I like to imagine Linus deciding to watch Eva after this expecting a typical mech action anime.
Okay, so I appreciate that extra long 4- or 8-pin connector, as I recently upgraded my rig, and the ones that came with my PSU are JUST long enough to work, but I had to balance the case, the motherboard, and those cables in both of my hands and one of my legs, to try and just barely have space to connect them onto the motherboard.
Let's just say, I hope to never have to do that for a very long time, and I will definitely be looking into getting longer cables to make this not as much of a nightmare.
It's incredible that even after Linus not so kind words about Intel, they still finance expensive rigs for his staff

I have the same TV now and upgraded with the exact same cheap entertainment center.. was pleasantly surprised when it was a perfect fit too.
The light diffuser on the front of the GPU looks absolutely amazing
The extra long cable for the CPU connector actually makes a lot of sense given that power supply was intended to be used with ASUS' Evangelion Helios case.
The Helios is so tall that a normal length cable can only just barely reach motherboard and even then only if you run it straight there without cable management.

Not really, it has the Nerv logo in it (the main organization that builds and manages the Evas in the series), and Nerv always goes with red graphics and themes in general.
@@lukeangels NEVER switch power supply cables unless you're 100% positive they're compatible between models. It's a great way to fry you components otherwise.

@@Alpha4Sierra In reality, "Can you unplug it and plug it back in" and "Can you turn it off then on" are great basic troubleshooting questions because they verify that it is in fact plugged in and turned on.
Like any true Evangelion fan, I can pick out meaning from the accidental symbolism! The red power supply represents the blood that exists in EVA due to their bio-mechanical being. The deskpad is a mural for when MAGI system at NERV was being hacked by the Angels.

The only downside to this setup is that not everything was purple and green. Not sure why there were different colors even though it’s from the same lineup.
Purple and green is the Eva 01, the red is from the Eva 02.

shortly after watching Nicole's Intel ETU I found myself having Wi-Fi issues, unfortunately i did not go to the ethernet over powerline first, it has been by far the best (what i would call) janky solution, very few issues with it by comparison to other things, and no messing with infrastructure in a place you don't own or won't be stating long term.
Glad you brought up this tech here again, more people should know it even exists.
Him not choosing for the purple PSU has got to be one of the most frustrating things I've watched this year.

To anyone who built a PC and couldn't connect to wifi due to missing drivers:
Just share internet through USB with your phone. You can connect your phone to wifi and it basically acts like a antenna so you don't have to move your whole rig.
As someone who had the same issue recently and remembered what you just wrote and felt like a genious, i can wholehortedly approve of this message.
This is super useful when doing wacky stuff with laptops.
I installed Linux and while using WiFi for setup is an option (but its bit of a pain and can have issues) wire is king and this gets very close
Yeah, this is the best way if you don't have another computer/laptop you can download on.
I don’t think it’s possible with iPhones tho. I always needed to install iTunes to be able to hotspot.

20:52 a solution I had for when Windows didnt detect my wifi driver for the install was to TETHER your phones internet connection with a USB cable connected.

Notes on the red and orange: they're probably themed after Eva Unit 2, whereas the green and purple is themed after Eva Unit 1. Still, the red wires are reminiscent of blood and veins, which is thematically fitting for the "guts" of and Eva PC build, for reasons....

Great stuff with that Evangelion stuff! That series gets DEEP, too... and it gets wild too, not just b/c of budget, but b/c the creator was going through a mental breakdown, too.
The PSU's color scheme is in fact correct! (canonically at least). NERV's color scheme is red and black, and the cables represent either Tang or blood. Still, I'd have gone for a full purple/green theme.

I think the issue is more, he could've gone for a NERV (black/red) theme or a 001 (purple/green) theme. I do think it's kinda weird to go the a single theme 90% and 10% not. Pretty much proof that he just looked up "evangelion" computer parts and shoved them all into his cart since he got TWO power supplies.
@@Zhajn He can say the this is EVA 01 Pseudo-Evolved since in Rebuild 2.0, Eva 01's green does switch to red when Shinji's trying to rescue Rei.
You could think of it as nerv(psu) powering the eva(the rest of the computer) via cables

Specially calling the "Evas" mechs already feels wrong to me, if he wanted to be vague to not give away main plot points is ok but he described it in such a lazy generic way and using the congratulations scene that I feel he knows eva more from memes than anything. Also not even a mention that the red PSU and cables were because it was matching the EVA 02 color scheme while the purple and green were for the EVA 01, at least a mention that different colors are for different characters if he doesn't want to go into specifics.

MSI and ASUS both had Evangelion branded components. MSI's motherboard and power supply choices make for a mid tier PC for a kid. The ASUS components are geared towards the enthusiast (Z690 MB). MSI is purple and green, ASUS is purple, green, red and orange.
It's even deeper than that. There is a theme for each mecha, but I think a certain part is always EVA, probably the power supply

You can run a command to restart the windows 11 start experience to skip signing in. then you can download the drivers to a usb for WIFI and then let windows get the rest of the drivers
