It depends, like for mic, music mic destroys gaming mic at the same price range, but for headsets, although music headsets are overall better, gaming headset does help in playing competitive shooters, its way easier to locate where the enemies are
I love how the engraved side panel has got a really nice text wrap around the center image, so somebody clearly knows what they're doing in layout, but nonetheless they have chosen to set the entire thing in Comic Sans.

I do two positions at once right now as I got a promotion but the old department isn't really keen on letting me go, so for now it's 50/50 in both departments. That alone felt good, but also my two bosses fighting over 3h of my time, it's like chill guys, not like that amount is going to make a huge difference for everyone. But does feel good.
I like Alex. He has everything I like in a person. Especially calm and quite, no hyping up words without reason, no fake laughter, a genuine look and feel to him. I really like him.
Side note, I've found people who are into music equipment are more likely to sell it for less than what it's worth. Also, people buying it will pay more. I had a Epiphone Les Paul. Some dude offered to pay extra because he thought I'd sell it before he got it, and that it was a genuine gibson brand, not a epiphone mock-up or whatever you'd say. Same look, different price. Music people are into art, that doesn't relate much with tech stuff so often.

RF guy here! I am late to the party but I'll demystify the antenna orientation. Antenna Interference: All mid to high end routers use multiple frequency bands (2.4G, 5G, etc), and each antenna will operate on a different frequency than the other (there are dozens of non-overlapping frequencies). Thus, they will not interfere with one another. Antenna Angle: Each antenna has a beam pattern that looks like a donut radiating out from the stick (disregard high-end beam-forming routers for now). If want max coverage on one floor, keeping them vertical is ideal so the donut beam radiates in all directions parallel with the floor. The specific use case for tilting them is if you have a specific area on a different floor where you want a stronger signal. You would tilt the antenna so that the donut shape intersects with the area you're trying to strengthen, sacrificing some strength on the main floor. If you have a router with beam forming you don't physically need to angle them to strengthen the signal. the router will electronically angle the radiated beam towards the device that connects to it.

yea a website using very generalised data said about $2000 a vid from adsence, on top of that throw 2 sponsor slots in the video i recon he isnt shilling more than $2000 for one of these even without intel covering the bill. and what way to increse corporate loyalty that to make the place they spend most of their time in better at your expence. take incresed store sales from the video, good will bonus of helping his staff etc. its probably profitable for him to make these and that $2000 could be covered by that, on top of being a better per dollar incentive than actually increasing their wage.
Former RF Engineer here: Yeah antenna's have a polarity. Unless you're otherwise told, keep your antenna's in the orientation described in the documentation or worst case, in the product pictures. There's two orientations that are acceptable, and your transmitters and receivers should be in the same polarity, which for wifi gear is almost always vertical unless you know know what you're doing.
Just watching this now, I built almost the exact same desk as Alex recently, but I used about 10x as much vhb tape cause I was scared of using too little. Moving in a few months, now I’m terrified of what hell awaits me trying to dismantle the desk

Wifi antennas are typically omnidirectional, but it’s fairly linear on the longitudinal plane. So turning them could result in better lateral signal, for example Ive seen in buildings with multiple floors that have wifi routers antennas split between 90 degrees.
I mean, considering he is quite the practical person, no shit... he'd definitely trade minor stuff like wirelessness for better audio quality and all that.

I like how linus called double sided tape "janky" as if it was a risk towards the hard drive moving around, I got some 3M automotive double sided tape I used to mount an SSD and if I ever sell my case the SSD is going with it cause this tape is normally used to fix trim and even mentioned mounting exterior lights on the package.
VHB Tape removal pro tip: When removing them, try to pull at a corner as if trying to stretch them over the surface they're affixed to (like pulling at 3M Command adhesive strips). The stretching releases the bond between the tape and the surface, and promotes them coming off in one piece. Trying to lift or pry them off only makes them tear. This method applies to other stretchy foam tapes as well.

Yeah probably, seeing an RGB LED is three LEDs, and two or three of them are lit to mix colors, plus there might be more clusters of RGB LEDS so that you can do more intricate patterns, plus the microcontroller that drives them.
The other commitment are correct, but there is also the fact that the RGB effect needs better defusing for it to look good, so each of the LEDs have to be brighter on there own as well as the added circuitry and just straight increase in numbers of LEDs.
@Aryan Padhy Voltage for LEDs depends on color heavily; instead you target some current value (most commonly, ~20mA) and put a resistor to step down the provider voltage by a desired amount (can use 3.3V or 5V rails; forward voltage required for LEDs to operate in "typical" conditions ranges from about 2V for red LEDs to about 4V for violet and white LEDs). Also somewhat unfortunately, LEDs start drawing more current as they heat up so that has to be stabilized as well.
I mean 4k is still a pretty big budget to fill out a gaming / office set up. It's not that he got budget stuff, he just knows what he needs and what makes sense. If he went bleeding edge on everything then yeah 4k will be spent real quick, but Alex was smart about it and he got the most out of the budget.

@@leeroyjenkins0 kind of disagree, enterprise routers are generally quite a bit more expensive and have features you're never going to use and need to properly understand to use. Enterprise laptops are also a different focus. You need to compare products and see what suits your needs, agreed though that one should just ignore gaming branding, but most don't know better, that's why successful.

My understanding of router antennas are that they should all be at different angles. This gives you more chance that the radio wave lines up with the connecting device's antenna .
Edge case to the extreme. In most cases, vertical positioning will be optimal. There's a chance horizontal orientation will slightly enhance propagation to receivers above or below the transmitter.
@@dpwellman Not really, you can test it yourself. You have them all pointed up, go far enough to get 2 out of 3 wifi bars, then point the antenna in the direction you were just in, go back to the same spot, you'll have 3 bars now. It's best to have at least one pointed towards each hotspot of your house such as living room, bedrooms, etc.

I assume they are all duplicates of the same signal (unlike old yagi antennas need to be spaced according to the wavelength). And, it follows, generally, the place to mess with angles is at the receiving end. If your router supports it, the best way to increase "range" is to use more efficient antennas.

I have a Ryzen apu in the pc I built a few weeks ago. Couple days ago I realised I hadn’t set my xmp properly yet, and was still at 2133. I set it to my proper ram speed (3600) and I had a 20% increase in FPS (in ffxiv). Then again it was from 27 to 33 but that increase was ridiculously noticeable. Incredibly smooth compared to what I had before. Hopefully I can get a gpu soon T_T
APU's may be the only RYZEN models who benefit from going beyond 3733MT/s. Because with RYZEN (incl. the APU's) the Infinity Fabric is set to half speed beyond that RAM speed. But because an APU doesn't have dedicated VRAM, faster RAM is beneficial for the integrated GPU to be fed with data.
i had a ryzen apu (2400g) turns out they really depend a lot on the speed, i noticed differences of 15-20% FPS in most games going from 2666mhz (no xmp) to 3200 on a single stick. You also get a sizeable improvment on using dual channel (which you really should if you have a ryzen apu)
5:57 some people might think he's crazy, but for real that's how mechanical the game is. Once you spend time learning it, it's very hard to switch to another controller type.

I ran out, but now I somehow am fine with just the 500gb drive and a 120gb SSD

I had a very low tier gaming PC and started upgrading parts slowly over the years, that was about 6 years ago. The very first thing I bought for it was the case, a Corsair Vengeance C70. My friends laughed at me for upgrading the case first because I had a low tier micro ATX board with an i5 3330 in it. 6 years later I am very happy I got that case for ~$60 USD back then. It's discontinued and the one I have is in pristine condition. It has 6 drives in it. That and my 710+, best purchases ever.
@@moboots think it had more to do with the fact that he deals with so many employees, so much tech, and just bought a house, $5k really isn't that much. Also Canada, Vancouver minimum wage is $15.20, so it's 1.5 months salary or so on minimum wage, so lets say 2 months salary. For most tech people, order of expenses is house (/kids) > car => electronics > everything else. Personally, would never spend much on a car, think I've never owned a car over $20k or so, for me it's a point a to point b device, my one friend on the other hand loves them and keeps doing leases so he can keep swapping cars, those are ~$50k cars, meanwhile my house is probably a bit more expensive than his (well, most definitely) and I spent a good $15k on electronics around the house in the last 3 years (PC, laptop, phone, VR, NAS, home server, smart lighting) with plans to spend more on it (adding temperature sensors, smart camera system (only have one camera set up and playing with coral), busy playing with automating an oven switch-off using image recognition for cake, etc.). If you earn well enough and stuff interests you, you'll spend in that direction.

I'm not saying $5k isn't quite a bit of money to drop on that, just that relative in regards to where they are, that isn't actually that much money, betting a lot of commenters are eastern Europe, Asia etc. where places like Bulgaria have a min wage of 320 EUR ($380/month).

These days I can't see a need for more than 8 TB storage in a workstation, unless you work in like, video editing. And then you got a NAS in either case. If you have 7 drives in your case and it is not a NAS, you really should consider replacing a few of them with a bigger drive. Your use case might justify it though. Just spend $100 on a 1TB NVMe + maybe a 4x4 slots expansion card. You'll thank me later.
At that point why not build a home server? The only things that spin in my case are the fans! Built a home server, got an HBA card, stuffed all my drives into it (SilverStone DS380B, highly recommend) with an old i7-3770s and 16gb of ram. Has been awesome ever since! Use it for dedicated gaming servers, file storage, plex, etc.

If want max coverage on one floor, keeping them vertical is ideal so the donut beam radiates in all directions parallel with the floor. The specific use case for tilting them is if you have a specific area on a different floor where you want a stronger signal. You would tilt the antenna so that the donut shape intersects with the area you're trying to strengthen, sacrificing some strength on the main floor.
If you have a router with beam forming you don't physically need to angle them to strengthen the signal. the router will electronically angle the radiated beam towards the device that connects to it.

Former RF Engineer here: Yeah antenna's have a polarity. Unless you're otherwise told, keep your antenna's in the orientation described in the documentation or worst case, in the product pictures. There's two orientations that are acceptable, and your transmitters and receivers should be in the same polarity, which for wifi gear is almost always vertical unless you know know what you're doing.

VHB Tape removal pro tip: When removing them, try to pull at a corner as if trying to stretch them over the surface they're affixed to (like pulling at 3M Command adhesive strips). The stretching releases the bond between the tape and the surface, and promotes them coming off in one piece. Trying to lift or pry them off only makes them tear. This method applies to other stretchy foam tapes as well.

Yeah probably, seeing an RGB LED is three LEDs, and two or three of them are lit to mix colors, plus there might be more clusters of RGB LEDS so that you can do more intricate patterns, plus the microcontroller that drives them.
The other commitment are correct, but there is also the fact that the RGB effect needs better defusing for it to look good, so each of the LEDs have to be brighter on there own as well as the added circuitry and just straight increase in numbers of LEDs.

My understanding of router antennas are that they should all be at different angles. This gives you more chance that the radio wave lines up with the connecting device's antenna .
Edge case to the extreme. In most cases, vertical positioning will be optimal. There's a chance horizontal orientation will slightly enhance propagation to receivers above or below the transmitter.
@@dpwellman Not really, you can test it yourself. You have them all pointed up, go far enough to get 2 out of 3 wifi bars, then point the antenna in the direction you were just in, go back to the same spot, you'll have 3 bars now.
It's best to have at least one pointed towards each hotspot of your house such as living room, bedrooms, etc.

Hey, would be cool if you re-shot the "Does RAM speed REALLY matter?" video but with Ryzen APUs, I heard they depend on ram speed, but how much really ?
I have a Ryzen apu in the pc I built a few weeks ago. Couple days ago I realised I hadn’t set my xmp properly yet, and was still at 2133. I set it to my proper ram speed (3600) and I had a 20% increase in FPS (in ffxiv). Then again it was from 27 to 33 but that increase was ridiculously noticeable. Incredibly smooth compared to what I had before. Hopefully I can get a gpu soon T_T
APU's may be the only RYZEN models who benefit from going beyond 3733MT/s. Because with RYZEN (incl. the APU's) the Infinity Fabric is set to half speed beyond that RAM speed. But because an APU doesn't have dedicated VRAM, faster RAM is beneficial for the integrated GPU to be fed with data.
It's certainly not unique to Ryzen APUs
i had a ryzen apu (2400g) turns out they really depend a lot on the speed, i noticed differences of 15-20% FPS in most games going from 2666mhz (no xmp) to 3200 on a single stick. You also get a sizeable improvment on using dual channel (which you really should if you have a ryzen apu)

I had a very low tier gaming PC and started upgrading parts slowly over the years, that was about 6 years ago. The very first thing I bought for it was the case, a Corsair Vengeance C70. My friends laughed at me for upgrading the case first because I had a low tier micro ATX board with an i5 3330 in it. 6 years later I am very happy I got that case for ~$60 USD back then. It's discontinued and the one I have is in pristine condition. It has 6 drives in it. That and my 710+, best purchases ever.
Man the best part of this would be eight hours of Linus’ time. That would be an amazing giveaway for Linus to come help with your setup.

@@moboots think it had more to do with the fact that he deals with so many employees, so much tech, and just bought a house, $5k really isn't that much.
Also Canada, Vancouver minimum wage is $15.20, so it's 1.5 months salary or so on minimum wage, so lets say 2 months salary.
For most tech people, order of expenses is house (/kids) > car => electronics > everything else.
Personally, would never spend much on a car, think I've never owned a car over $20k or so, for me it's a point a to point b device, my one friend on the other hand loves them and keeps doing leases so he can keep swapping cars, those are ~$50k cars, meanwhile my house is probably a bit more expensive than his (well, most definitely) and I spent a good $15k on electronics around the house in the last 3 years (PC, laptop, phone, VR, NAS, home server, smart lighting) with plans to spend more on it (adding temperature sensors, smart camera system (only have one camera set up and playing with coral), busy playing with automating an oven switch-off using image recognition for cake, etc.).
If you earn well enough and stuff interests you, you'll spend in that direction.

@@moboots Sure, but does Linus and Alex earn minimum wage? And overall, how many do so? If you look at US, 542k earn minimum wage out of a work force of over 160m.
I'm not saying $5k isn't quite a bit of money to drop on that, just that relative in regards to where they are, that isn't actually that much money, betting a lot of commenters are eastern Europe, Asia etc. where places like Bulgaria have a min wage of 320 EUR ($380/month).

These days I can't see a need for more than 8 TB storage in a workstation, unless you work in like, video editing. And then you got a NAS in either case.
If you have 7 drives in your case and it is not a NAS, you really should consider replacing a few of them with a bigger drive. Your use case might justify it though.
Just spend $100 on a 1TB NVMe + maybe a 4x4 slots expansion card. You'll thank me later.
At that point why not build a home server? The only things that spin in my case are the fans! Built a home server, got an HBA card, stuffed all my drives into it (SilverStone DS380B, highly recommend) with an old i7-3770s and 16gb of ram. Has been awesome ever since! Use it for dedicated gaming servers, file storage, plex, etc.
When I installed light strips I designed and printed some little screw-in holders. Really nice and super quick print.
