    I camped out with some friends over 25 years ago in the building you entered with the tables. It was totally different back then. This was when it was private property before the state purchased it. The building was a general store and looked like it back then. It had shelves on the wall, a large counter and bar. There was also a powder room in the back with a 2 foot thick door. Glad to see it was tidied up for tourists but would be neat if they had some pics somewhere of what the town used to be at the ranger station. I remember counting about 100 structures. Somewhere I have a picture of my 1985 suburban parked out front where they used to keep the horses. Super cool place.

      You can almost always tell a shot that is taken in Texas by the color of the sky especially if is Central or West Texas.

    Great video. Unbelievable how much there is to explore in big bend. I’ve been three times and only scratched the surface. Your videos have helped me identify my next places to explore. Thanks for making all these videos about the great state of Texas 💪

      It's such a huge area between the two parks. I still feel like I'm just scratching the surface. There are a few other places on my list there that I'll try to get to this year.

    Love far west Texas, excellent video and the cycling perspective was incredible, keep up the good work.
    Ft Davis state park and Lodge are wonderful as well as the Observatory (McDonald)

    I got the Tumbleweed reference. I was getting strong Gaptooth Ridge/Punta Orgullo vibes from the look of the area before you said anything but your reference pulled it all together. This is basically a real life Red Dead Redemption tour.

      haha, I think you may be the first to get the reference. My recent video about Shafter TX has similar vibes.

    Heck of a bike ride! We haven't been to this park but we've read a lot about it. We thought about hitting it up when we went to BBNP in 2019 but there just wasn't enough time. It's cool that this trail is out there. You got to see some pretty impressive views in that backcountry. That old homestead was really neat. Wild to think about how difficult it must have been to get all of that material back there for that mine.

      Thanks for stopping by. Big Bend Ranch doesn't have the high elevations of some of the other west Texas parks but it has great treasures tucked away in a vast desert wilderness. More coming over the next few weeks.

      @@secretsoftexas6872 we want to visit it but we’re up in Dallas and it’s a haul to get down to that area.

    I don't have the grit for that but really enjoyed seeing your ride and the visit to the mine. We vlog but its not as exhilarating as yours. We have subscribed so we can see more of your adventures.

    • @secretsoftexas6872
      @secretsoftexas6872  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Armadillos, Deer, Porcupines, Bobcats, Coyotes, Javelinas, Wild Hogs, Alligators, extremely fast prairie snake varieties, water moccasins, rattle snakes, exotic Tropical Birds (Roseate spoonbill, green jay, great kiskadee, chachalacas) & Lizards (far south Texas only), Buffalo & prairie dogs (panhandle area), collared lizards, great horned lizards, various tortoises and turtles

    Your videos are incredible! Thank you for sharing. I was wondering if you've come across snakes?

    • @secretsoftexas6872
      @secretsoftexas6872  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The most memorable snake I've seen was on the Caprock Canyons mountain bike ride. I didn't identify specifically what it was but it moved at incredible speed across the trail. I didn't know snakes could slither that fast! Otherwise I caught a glimpse of a rattle snake on the Emory Peak trail and I saw a water snake at Colorado Bend State Park.

    Can the mine be accessed by truck or foot? Or is it by off-road bike trail only?
    I've been to Mariscal Mine twice and it was fascinating to think of people living that remotely.

    What settings are you using on your Gopro, and how are you mounting it??? These vids are incredibly smooth!

    • @secretsoftexas6872
      @secretsoftexas6872  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The chest mount seems best for mountain biking. I have a gopro 8 with hypersmooth turned on at 1080p. I also used the flex jaws clamp for a few shots.

    I read bikes are not allowed on hiking trails in the park, are you riding on some other type of trail in the park?

    • @secretsoftexas6872
      @secretsoftexas6872  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are multiple mountain bike trails available in the park.
