Whether you're painting indoors or outdoors, understanding the interplay of light and shadow is crucial. In this demonstration, we use a beautiful scene from the Canadian Rockies as our reference, delving into the subtleties of creating depth and realism in your artwork.
    🎨 Key Topics Covered:
Starting with Darkest Darks: Learn why beginning with the darkest elements, such as trees and stone walls, sets a foundation for your painting's overall value range.
Color Mixing Insights: Discover the specific color mixes used, including ultramarine blue, cad lemon, raw sienna, alizarin crimson, and more.
Creating Depth: Techniques for ensuring distant mountains appear lighter and cooler, enhancing the sense of depth in your landscape.
Using Sanded Paper: Find out why sanded paper is a choice substrate for some artists and how it impacts the painting's texture.
Big Picture vs. Detail: Tips on focusing on the larger shapes and values in your painting before moving to finer details.
🖼️ For Aspiring Artists: This video is perfect for both novice and experienced artists looking to refine their landscape painting skills.
📚 Educational and Engaging: This tutorial not only guides you through practical painting techniques but also offers insights into the philosophy and mindset behind successful landscape art.

Thanks, Gabor. I always learn something new. I liked your comment about the number of values and that if everything is important, nothing is important. Very well put. Appreciatively.

Great lesson, Gabor. I very much agree with your landscape painter recommendations... including Ralph Oberg. I fondly remember Ralph coaching me on one outdoor painting session as I was struggling to lay in trees in a convincingly random way. He said: "Remember the story of the three bears: Papa tree, Mama tree, and Baby tree". These guys (you included) have so many good lessons for us. Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed it Carl. Ralph was right. It does come down to trial and error. The more we do the more we will figure out what works and what does not. There is no special receipt book but it helps to know what have worked for the ones that walked before us.
