My mother loved John Denver. And while she was dying of lung cancer, I sat by her the entire time and picked her songs off of TH-cam to make her happy. I ended up playing "Grandma's Feather Bed" with John and the Muppets. After it was finished my mother laughed! Laughter was her last emotion as she passed away that next morning. So John Denver was spreading happiness and laughter even in 2012.

@@joedyer5486 Thank you for your kind words. Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer and 3 weeks later she was gone. She wanted to go home and be in her own bed. I understood so we took her home. I had a recliner put by her bedside and that is where I stayed for those 3 weeks. I didn't want to miss another moment of still being her daughter. It's been 8 1/2 years and I cry every day for her. She was the best mother anyone could ever ask for. I was holding on to her in her bed when she passed and my husband called hospice. I didn't let go of her until the funeral home came and got her. I miss her terribly.

I lost my foot and part of my leg in 2017 following a bad accident on the TT circuit in the Isle of man. I was in hospital for a month and many is the nights where I grimaced in pain... I listen to John denvers music constantly to help me not focus on the pain. My favourite song by John is ...rhymes and reasons. He had a terrific gift which he shared with us all. I guess maybe he was saddened by all the BS that's happening in the world. I felt he sang with conviction and meaning, all his music came from within him . His live performances could be equated to Queens live aid performance. His music will live forever . In truth and from my heart , he was one artist I would have loved to have met and just shake his hand and say. Thank you for being there when I was very much alone with pain and losing hope. Thank you for reading this. Joey ...from Ireland 🇮🇪

I think some of John's best songs were co written with Bill Danoff, Fat City, performing Afternoon Delight with Taffy Nivert. They even got a finger snap credit on one of John's albums. I saw them as an opening act for Lily Tomlin at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. John sang songs by Tom Paxton and John Prune too. Good times.

John played a huge part in my life. I got married in 1974 and all the music was by John, much to the chagrin of the priest. We walked out of the church holding hands to “Leaving on a Jet Plane” we danced to “My Sweet Lady” My eldest son became an Eagle Scout as the song “The Eagle and the Hawk” played. My husband and I went to every concert he did in Rhode Island and we knew where to stand as his car drove out of the arena and John would always give us a thumbs up as though we were friends. My husband and I divorced in 1997, remain friends and both still love John. I moved to California in June of 1997 and just 4 months later John was killed in the plane crash on Monterrey. I was devastated. I still am. Now a tear comes to my eye whenever I hear his songs. Love you John!

what a beautiful story of your wedding, minus the divorce! Being from there on Rhode Island, I felt compelled to comment and say that even at a 56 years young, John has and always will likely be my all time favorite singer and song writer!!! I loved both him & his music both from the first I heard him and them back when I was a boy in the 70s being born in 1968 on Cranston and growing up on Snug Harbor, then Charlestown by the ocean, I always felt that same connection to nature and this Earth as John did!!! I came to the Appalachian foothills of the Blue Ridges of Virginia at 22 and been here ever since! Still loving and enjoying Johns beautiful music and the beautiful nature here with the Blue Ridges all around me!

The number one thing that artists do is commit 100% to what they feel they should do, and hope trust that it will resonate with someone. What critics do not understand is that John Denver's music, like everyone who has ever created anything, is not for everyone; but it is for someone. And the amount of someone's is a very large group.
Favorite song is from this list: Take Me Home Country Roads, I'm Sorry, Leaving On a Jet Plane, Annie's Song, Calypso, and the vastly underrated jewel Like a Sad Song.

Brilliant singer, songwriter and humanitarian. My favourite Denver song is Annie's Song. He loved his first wife incredibly even though he cheated on her. He said in an interview he was always so lonely without her when he went on tour that he just found women for company. Annie Martel admitted herself that if she had gone on tour with John as he had pleaded for her to do he would never have been unfaithful. His music will live forever.

I met John during one of his UK tours. I'm not sure of the year but around 1990. I was working as the director of a national HIV/AIDS training centre. I did go to a concert but one of my staff was part of the Hunger Project and I was invited to chat with him in their house. We didn't discuss music. We spoke of world hunger, AIDS, climate change and clean water projects. Of course, as someone who had heard his music and seen him on UK TV, I was delighted to meet him but it was his fierce but caring concern about these issues that impressed me when speaking with the man.

He has way too many beautiful songs for me to ever pick just one...I love so many of his songs I could never pick one as a favorite!!! I grew up in the 70's being born in 1968....John has and always will likely be my all time favorite singer and song writer!!! I loved both him & his music both from the first I heard him and them back when I was a boy growing up on Snug Harbor, Rhode Island then Charlestown by the ocean for the first 22 years of life there on RI, I always felt that same connection to nature and this Earth as John did!!! I came to the Appalachian foothills of the Blue Ridges of Virginia at 22 and been here ever since! Still loving and enjoying Johns beautiful music and the beautiful nature here with the Blue Ridges all around me! Here it is October 18, 2024 & I've been listening to John since yesterday afternoon! Thank God for John and youtube!!!

My parents attended one of his concerts here in Eastern Canada. It was in a theatre and his setup was several guitars on their stands in a half circle, a mic on its stand and a stool in the centre. John just sat on the stool and sang his songs, playing whichever guitar was best for each song. I’m pretty sure Mum said that he kicked off his sandals. It was a very intimate evening with him telling many stories between the songs. She was an ardent fan. Listen to his voice - he had tremendous talent...great pitch and delivery.

To this day, he still has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. I had always read that a great singer could make you think they were singing just for you... I found out that night that it was true - Pure magic.

John Denver used to do a benefit concert for Aspen Camp of the Deaf every year in Aspen, CO. I was a first year teacher of the deaf and attended the concert with my girlfriend back in 1976. When they asked for volunteer interpreters for his songs, I got chosen and had the honor of signing "Sunshine on My Shoulders" while he sang it with the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop. That was a pretty "far out" experience for a 22 year old, idealistic teacher of the deaf. Saw him at Red Rocks Amphitheater which was the absolute best venue to see a John Denver concert. Anytime I hear a song by JD, it instantly takes me to Red Rocks. Grateful for the memories. Poems, Prayers, & Promises & Christmas for Cowboys are 2 of my favorites.

Over they years, I saw John several times in concert and had the pleasure of meeting him. His concerts were always packed and he was just as you would imagine. Very down to earth and kind. When at his concerts, there could be a couple of thousand people present but he had the ability to make you feel like you were the only one in the room. He was a great story teller as well. They were always full of humor except when he spoke of treating another human like a human and feeding the children, all the children, around the globe in addition to our treatment of "Mother Earth". The he was dead pan serious and you knew it came from the heart. He made no bones about his love for Annie and his children and later for Jessie Belle. His music touched the hearts of people all over the globe and will continue to do so.

We had so much fun there as kids with great neighbors that helped each other. When we went on holidays it was exciting however after a week I felt like what john Denver was singing about "And driving down the road I get a feeling I should have been home yesterday, yesterday" I couldn't wait to get home!
