Your enthusiasm and compassion shine through these well developed routines. I so enjoy exercising at home and this makes it all the more fun! Thanks again.

    Thank you for your videos and great instructions. I started yesterday with this one and the one on weights. I plan on getting myself back in shape using your videos as a guide. I used to social dance, West Coast Swing, and I am amazed at how quickly I got out of shape since early March! I will be 64 next month and you inspire me to have a body that's flexible and aerobically fit. Also, I appreciate that you don't woop and holler; you just give good instruction as you go along. Thanks for what you do.

    Hi Cindy, I let myself go several years without exercising after my back surgery. Now I’m trying to get in shape at 63. This is the first time I’ve seen a test to help me figure out where I stand in the areas you mentioned. Yes, I’m definitely out of shape, but I really appreciate your suggestions on how to improve in each area at the end of your video. Thank you for giving me hope that it’s not too late to increase my balance, strength and flexibility!

    Thank you Cindy, I have recently undergone breast cancer surgery, so I couldn’t do the upper body strength test, but I am looking forward to following along with your videos when cleared to do so. Maintaining a healthy, strong, and flexible body is very important to me. I am 72, and otherwise in good health; flexibility was my lowest score in the low average area.

  • @stanh24

    This is good, but on the endurance test it’d be simpler if each step were counted as one step, then divided by two to match up with the chart. My opinion only. :)

      Stan, thank you for your suggestion. We enjoy hearing how folks like you can better use our website. And thank you for viewing the test.

      I can’t count fast enough to count each step (I wish Id done as well on even one of the other tests!) So I would vote to keep your instruction to count only one leg. I am glad to have these baseline measures and especially the detailed directions about form so I can check back and have a better idea of whatever progress I make from the varied exercises I am already doing. Ill check out some of your exercise videos, too. Thank you Cindy!

    Hi Cindy. I like your video but I have a question. I have heart disease and had a heart attack 8 years ago and I'm having some problems with how much exercise I can get due to how high my heart rate goes up as well as severe low back pain and my left hip has been in bad shape for a long time and is painful. Do you know how high your heart rate should go during the chair squats? And do you known if your exercises are safe for people with my health problems?

    • @Lucas-nx9zc
      @Lucas-nx9zc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always , listen to your body, sometimes people are trained enough to endure a higher heart rate.
      I would say 220 minus (age) = max. HR , I cannot give you a specific number, as you should speak to your doctor, but I expect 60-70% of HRmax

  • @debbie2027
    @debbie2027 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looking at the squat challenge .... how can you compare the performance of a 5' tall to a woman who is 6' tall ? It seems to me the shorter woman would have better performance based on size alone

    As a 76yo runner who has recently decided to give up running, I have great endurance , upper and lower strength, balance and agility - BUT my flexibility is terrible :( Any recommendations for me please? I dont think I have the body type/shape to become really flexible at this point in time.

    • @FitnessWithCindy

      Try some of our stretching routines located here: www.fitnesswithcindy.com/stretching/
      It's not always about improving but about not losing what we have. Plus, it is possible to gain better range of motion at any age. Do stretches at least twice a week or better yet, a little each day and keep me posted of your progress.

    • @FitnessWithCindy

      Hi, Good question. This test was developed and validated through research at the Ruby Gerontology Center at California State University, Fullerton by Drs. Rikli and Jones as a means to access the physical performance in older adults and their ability to remain independent. It has become a reliable source for
      many of us working with seniors who have often asked "How can I measure how well my fitness program is benefiting me?" If you research Rikli & Jones fitness test, there are a lot of fun facts on them and their research. And thanks for asking a question others may be wondering about

      Hi Annette. This was part of a certification course I took on line and viewed in a video for Golden Hearts thru AFAA. So, the only other place know you might view it is on our website: www.fitnesswithcindy.com. Thank you for asking. Stay well.

  • @lalitroguzzde

    Is there an error in the first chart for the lower body strength? I think whats normal for ages 85 to 89 is 8-13 for women and 8-14 for men.

    • @lalitroguzzde

      Thank you for your inquiry. I just pulled out my AFAA Golden Hearts Active at Any Age Chart and that is what they have printed...However, I am sure different institutes may have different measuring sticks.
      So glad to hear you took the test. It is simply a heads up as to where we are on our journey to remaining well and especially independent.
      And thank you for watching!

      Hi Carmel, Thank you for your question. The total test is 20 minutes, if that is what you are asking about. But why not do one or two sections a day. Because they are broken into different categories. they don't need to be all done on the same day. Would that be helpful? Let me know your thoughts when you get time.
