I took a Similar car to a mechanic, he opened the refill plug with out the removing shaft joint, by a screw driver tapping on the side it started opening, saved time and effort, great video anyway, saved time to locate the plugs.

Thanks so much for that video! Just replaced the oil on my 2005 C240 4matic. The car had a bad vibration while hard turning at low speeds. The old tc oil was very dark compared to the new one... After driving it for about 30 minutes on the highway the issue is now gone.

Same for me on an 2008 E280 with 340k km. Car purrs again. I was worried it was the fronts axle joints, I'm glad it was just a fluid issue. Probably original oil in the transfer case from factory by the look of it.

Nice video, it is pretty much the same on 2005 Mercedes E320 4 MATIC. What he mention was wrong that the tool to unscrew drain plugs is torx tool in fact is alen key.

sfotic depends on the car. My C240 was Torx

Great video man One thing I would add is that there is another plug (inspection hole screw plug) behind the vibration damper. The damper is on the right side if you pause it at 12:24. Remove the damper and remove the plug. You add oil from the oil filler opening on top until it runs out of the inspection opening. Let the oil escape for roughly 2 minutes and then screw it the plug and tighten to 30 Nm. That way you don't have to measure out .59 liters of fluid.

You have allot more energy then me. Allot of work just to change the fluid. Nice job!

Very good video- however you should instruct your viewers that in order to remove the driveshaft flex disc, you need to rotate the rear driveshaft. Otherwise you cannot reach all the bolts on top. You cannot use ramps or blocks, all 4 wheels need to be up in the air in order to rotate the rear drive shaft.
The 4matic is a full time AWD system, therefore when you turn the rear driveshaft the front one will also turn!

    • @PetePutros
      @PetePutros 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

No it won't. If you turn the left wheel the right will turn other direction yes. But back wheels will not turn fronts and vice versa.. even if you put the car in drive. With all 4 wheels in the air. The rear would turn fast,, and one front wheel will turn at 75% the power, the other would barley move.
All you have to do is out the car in neutral. And turn the drive shaft all day

There are three fill/drain bolts on this transfer case. The way you did it, the level was not checked. Your supposed to remove that counter wait that is right above the drain plug, and there is another plug behind that. You drain it, then fill it thru the fill plug, till it comes out of the level check plug.

Hello, I do not want to sound like smart ass but correct fluid for this transfer case has yelowish bright color. And to get to the filler bolt there is no need to drop driveshaft, nonetheless this is very helpful video.

This will solve the problem of the vibration and shredding noise when turning left or right , but fill it to the max and wait to drive it for 100 kms, the problem will disappear. It's funny how it can be cousing the issue from the first place. But apparently it's a common issue in the 4matic, One of mercedes X CEO doings. The one who retired in a bmw.

Good video! Too much effort to drive it a few miles and then do a second drain/refill. But wondering if you can just refill it, and then drain it again as a means of flushing it?

A great video. I have a question about this, though. I've just done a full ATF exchange on my 722.6 transmission. Isn't it true that the fluid in the 4Matic transfer case already connected to the transmission fluid? In this case the transfer case fluid should be good, no?

Should this be the same for my 2007 C280 4Matic? I have about 118,000 miles and I know the transfer case and differentials should be done. Also can I use the same fluid you did? Both the differential and transfer case fluids?

    • @dieselmercedes7507

I have no idea if those cars are identical....Ideally stick with Mercedes fluids....fluids are specified in your owner's manual...have fun, be safe !

Dude, you Made a huge mistake at filling. Behînd the rubber part on the right of the drain screw, there is a 3rd screw which is here to indicate the level by rejecting the exceeding oil. You put too much oil in your transfer case ! It is about 0,6L of oil in
