Very well-made video. No filler, no unnecessary fluff, but right to the point. Looks like I'll be doing the same job (probably replacing more of the transfer case components though) and this video helps a lot!
Great job and video - very helpful - how did you did you did you do the bearing preload(shims) - did you use the original stock shims or did you adjust(machine) these to get the proper bearing tolerance when putting back together?
This was very helpful, I have been to over 7 different shops in Atlanta and none of them want to attempt to do this type of job for my transfer case on my 2013 c300 4matic sport. Its very frustrating but I will just have to probably do this myself one day.
All these garages just want to change parts, they don't want to fix shit.. a couple of worn bearings inside and it's fix 300 dollars probably for bearings, but they want you to get a new Trans case for 4000 plus labor..its a hustle man
Getting ready to do the same job (had to replace the helical gear with the output shaft - the inner U-joints are toast). Was there any lip to pull against on that inside bearing race (the one with the output shaft running through it)? I'm trying to line up the tools I'll need to do the job (all at once - what a concept!) and wonder if a slide hammer with a hook attachment - or an expandable puller head - will be able to grab the fat end of that bearing race.
My 2010 c300 had a loud sound coming from the front of transmission, long story short . Wife kept driving it and I had to tow it home , transmission fluid all over the place . Haven't jacked it up to check it yet . Was told the gear box on the front of transmission busted so I'm going to replace it myself . Is there a gear box on the front of transmission on these cars to drive front axles ? Looks to me like it's on the rear of transmission from this video.
Hi! Thank you - your video is the only one i found which shows how to insert the new bearing and remove the races. Can you tell us how you removed the bearings and how you inserted the races. Thank you again!!!
I need to do this to my GLK350, did you also do the output shaft bearing on the output shaft to the rear driveshaft, its in the first cover you took off? it looks like there is a seal there also? it doesn't look like it is in the FCP kit?
How did you fill transfer case with oil ? Is transmission and transfer case with the same fluid ? On my transfer case I have drain plug not sure how do i fill it up bc some cars have red trany fluid and some have blue but transfer case is red oil
Hey quick question! Which of these parts is the planetary gear? I have a shop saying that it is very likely ill need to swap out the planetary gear but i feel a bit skeptical on that. Do you think just swapping the bearings will make the sound go away?
Where is your business located..? Mine has a whistle noise (almost like turbo but less whistly) at 20-25 and then around 50mph. Also, at above 65mph, under load (going up incline) it has a low vibration/growl. Last, i saw some a little ATF in the transfer case. The same issue? What do you think?
This video must be intended as guide for fellow master mechanics and all those who have commented, "very well made video....very helpful....great video...etc." must either have access to a lift or haven't yet attempted to do this job. How i know this? Well because i came across this video searching , " how to remove transfer case on 08 c300 4matic sport without dropping the whole transmission?". As useful as the information is in this video, not revealing the difficulty of removing the torx screws from the t.case and then the torx screws from t.case housing to the transmission, even after pointing them out, makes this video a complete bust. IMPO.

hey, did you end up doing it and did you have to change the planetary gear too?

Thank you for the video. Do you have a link to where I can buy the replacement kit?

Is that the same transfer case for a glk350???
It looks similar!, im preparing myself to do the same job!!!

Did you replace that long bolt?

I would love to hire you to do a friends Mercedes’ that is doing the same thing.the car is in Minnesota
Please write the bearings part codes
Where are you located? This doesn’t look like any fun 😂
bearings size are 3 times smaller than should be. very poor design. when running, atf level is lower than lower bearing race.
