When u came for Malaysian food you have to mix it all. That the real deal combine. And if u know the price of musang king u have to be careful of the price.. That king. Price..
Hi folks. The basic Nasi Lemak is just a small packet of rice cooked in santan (coconut milk)and pandan leaves, sambal, fried anchovies, a portion of full-boiled egg and cucumber. It is usually had for breakfast and affordable for the masses. What you had was an updated modern version. As for c(h)endol, I prefer to have it plain and eat durian separately. ABC and Bubur C(h)ac(h)a are also popular desert drinks.
Hello guys, BEFORE eating Cendol, you'll need to mix the brown sugar with the entire shaved ice otherwise the "true" cendol flavor/taste will not be complete. In my opinion, don't add durian in cendol, it'll give that "love it or hate it" result. If you eat cendol again, make sure to mix the brown sugar, actually in English (for easier understanding) we called it brown sugar but in actual fact it's called Gula Melaka, which is another signature product from Melaka state.
Every tourist only know about Nasi Lemak, there is another delicious Malay food called poppiah. The best one I ever had 12 years ago was at TAMAN TUN DOCTOR ISMAIL (TTDI) . It was a road side Malay hawker solely selling very delicious Malay Poppiah, just near to Maybank. Check it out whether it is still selling there. Don't miss out this wonderful food in Malaysia.
Traditionally, nasi lemak is served with a hot spicy sauce (sambal), and usually includes various garnishes, including fresh cucumber slices, small fried anchovies (ikan bilis), roasted peanuts, and hard-boiled or fried egg. Fried Chicken, Lung, beef and so on is just a substantial meal for additional protein. My fav combination is nasi lemak and sambal kerang (shell) tho but you should try with rendang daging(beef) (authentic Malay food). and 'O' means original. so if you want to order tea/cofee/nescafe without milk, remember to mention 'O'

To answer your question at 5:44, here's the explanation. 1) Teh is tea, and tarik means 'pulled'. It's basically tea with a bus load of condensed milk (I call it diabetes in a cup), poured between two large cups back and forth, primarily to cool it down a bit. The froth that appears is just the result of the pulling. So, basically teh tarik is a hot beverage. When you take it cold, it's no longer a teh tarik, but teh ais. 2. When you see an 'O', it basically means the beverage comes without milk, but sugar is added. So teh O is black tea with sugar. If you like your tea, coffee or Milo without milk and sugar, then you'd ask for Teh O Kosong or Kopi O kosong. 3. The normal practice here whn you ask for a cup of tea or coffee is to serve it with condensed milk. 4. There is another option where you may opt for evaporated milk instead of condensed milk. Then you'd ask for Teh C, or Kopi C. Add 'kosong' if you don't want added sugar. Hope this helps. About the nasi lemak you guys had - yes, its quite normal to add on some meats and vege to the basic version. As a local I would like to recommend you to ask for basic Nasi Lemak for the first taste. Basic Nasi lemak only consist of the rice, sambal, peanut, anchovies with boiled egg and some cucumbers. That will give you the authentic taste of Nasi Lemak. Do aask for the basic Nasi Lemak next time, next place. No doubt the sellers will recommend you every delicious dishes on the table end up they will kill the authentic taste of Nasi Lemak itself. Lungs, chicken rendang, beef rendang, fried chicken and everything else are just additional attraction with additional cost.
@@sunkissedbucketlist Yah I agree. The most basic Nasi Lemak is the best and you should definitely try it. Nothing better! Tis something you can find easily, if you know what to ask for. Very simple, very pure and VERY good!
Nice to see you guys explore Kampung Baru, experiencing the locals spot instead of tourist spot.. Also I like u guys tried other dish to eat with nasi lemak like chicken rendang, lung, potatoes(begedil) etc..
Teh O’ basically means without the milk so it’s sweetened iced tea. Likewise kopi O would be sweetened black coffee. Nasi lemak is a fiercely debated topic in Malaysia. There’s good ones and there’s bad ones. Another famous place would be Village Park in PJ. It’s not close to KL so you might have to take a Grab/Taxi there. A lot of good nasi lemak are sold by aunties early in the morning at the side of roads. With regards to durian, D24 is good run of the mill durian. Musang King is arguably the best of the best. It has stronger flavour and is creamier. Think strong blue cheese. If you’re into milder flavours try D24 first or other varieties like XO. Durian is definitely an acquired taste. Like all Malaysian food, it’s full bodied in your face strong flavours.
Welcome to Malaysia. Hope you have an awesome time here. Here are a list of food that you should try: 1. Roti Canai with Dhal and/or Curry sauce - You can get it at any Mamak Restaurant. 2. Char Koay Teow - some of the best char koay teow can be found at hawker stalls/night markets 3. Curry Laksa 4. Satay - again you can find these at night markets/stalls by the roadside 5. Chilli Pan Mee 6. Chicken/Beef Rendang - you can eat it with rice, or if you're lucky enough you can eat it with Lemang (sticky rice soaked with coconut juice and heated up in bamboo sticks) 7. Apam Balik - dessert 8. Ramly Burger - Ramly is a brand name for the patty and you can find roadside burger stalls selling them. ENJOY!
I am totally impressed that you actually ate durian. So good that you tried. I am a Malaysian but durian is not for me. You either love or hate it. But ABC cendol, I loooove.
Glad to see you try the Wanjo nasi lemak. After this you should try the Village Park nasi lemak..order side dishes of their famous fried chicken and beef rendang. Cendol by itself is a good dessert so unless you can handle durian, you should try them separately because it doesn't give the cendol justice with the durian smell being overpowering.
Oh brilliant thanks for the recommendation! Yes, I think we made a mistake trying them together haha! We will for sure try them again but separately this time so we can decide on the flavors 😉
Both of you can being a good yt content creator by yours journey all the time in Malaysia..selamat datang.. enjoy your holidays in our country the One of wonderful place in this world and many tourist call Malaysia is the truly of Asia..
‘that perseverance pays off or your taste buds just die or get used to it’ has got to be my favourite line in this video, and the one that made me hit the subscribe button . if you guys ever come to East Malaysia, have a go at the dalit and tarap fruits. fair warning: both are of the ‘acquired taste’ category
Big fan of durian here, have been eating durian since I'm a toddler! Your reactions are totally understandable since not all Malaysians can accept the smell and flavor of durian too. Thank you for at least trying and treating it with respect :)
Hye guys.. FYI, Milo O, Teh O and any "O" means no milk.. Only add sugar/sugar syrup. U guys should try also some combination of the drink like NESLO (Nescafe/coffee + Milo + Milk), MILO TABUR / MILO DINASOUR (Milo, milk & milo powder on top of the drink), 3 Layer Tea (Tea + Milk + Brown sugar), TEH TARIK HALIA (Teh tarik with ginger) or u can mix juice such as TEMBIKAI LONGAN (Watermelon + longan fruit) and so on..

the greatest trick on nasi lemak, is you take a bit of sambal with the rice, and take the runny yolk with it. it will blows your mind on how good that is, and spicy enough to take a sip of teh ais urghhhhhhhhhhh i promise you will taste the paradise on earth.

That potato with meat is called a "Begedil". Very delicious. I always eat it. U can add anything to Nasi Lemak as long as it is the Glutinous Rice as the base with sambal + cucumber + peanuts + anchovies as the base. Then feel free to add any other side dishes u want with it according to your taste and preference.
Nasi is rice Lemak is fat/creamy Nasi lemak is a coconut rice... coconut milk give the creamy taste to the rice.. glutinous rice is a sticky rice. Peace
Durian has variety of types and it also depends on person whether you like it sweeter or bitter. As far as I know the advance/pricey durian is actually the bitter one. If you like it sweet, you can try Red Prawn. If you want diverse, Durian Kampung. Durian Kampung taste depend on your luck as the durian does not have constant taste.
Hi guys, I am Malaysian, so I must admit I love durians, its basically taste creamy sweet fruit. It made me wonder why its not liked by Westminsters. Its just fruit,
I think it's best for you to have a local to show you around and explain how and what foods are there here in Malaysia. Wouldn't mind giving you guys a tour since I live in KL haha. Hopefully you guys are here for a while
Some durian in malaysia have name and code number. Musang king - D 197 Tekka ( musang queen) - D 168 Duri hitam (Black thorn) - D 200 Udang merah (Red prawn) - D 167 Hor lor - D 163 iOi - D 168 For 1st time want to eat durian better try Tekka , D24, red prawn, Hor Lor, iOi. Musang king and Black thorn are expensive and strong taste.
Oh blimey, Britons trying cendol with MUSANG King for the 1st time. I gave u a thumbs-up. Haha. Great choice for the combination of Nasi Leak. I m happy u like it. 😋
@@sunkissedbucketlist I'm glad to hear that. Just a bit, nasi lemak used to be a peasant meal, just d coconut cream rice, sambal, a slice of boiled egg, slices of cucumber, fried dried anchovies n peanuts, wrapped in banana leaf. Nowadays, since d last 3 decades or more, nasi lemak is more lavish, with spicy fried chicken, beef/chicken rendang, seafood sambal n much more variety of dishes to go with d rice. Well, durian is a different story, although it's d king of fruit in Malaysia, d response varies from one foreign tourist to another, d smell n taste is quite strong, not to everyone liking. 🙂
Nasi Lemak Wanjo is delicious. but there is another place that is also yummy. We suggest you go to GERAI CIK PAH located in Desa Pandan, Kuala Lumpur to taste nasi lemak among the most delicious in Kuala Lumpur. My suggestion is you take the rendang ayam side dish for the nasi lemak. Nasi lemak Gerai Cik Pah is very fragrant with traditional recipes. eat nasi lemak on a banana leaf base which is really appetizing. just waze GERAI CIK PAH, Desa Pandan, kuala lumpur, you arrive at that location. how to get there? can be by grab or taxi. should go early [7-9 am].
For durian...it's definitely acquired taste... I have friends from Costa Rica or other countries, initially they don't like it...but after a few times somehow they love it...so yeah....it's acquired taste...you either love it or hate it... :) but good job guys for giving durian a try at least... once you're really into durian, then you can move on to the next level, there's sweet, bitter, alcohol flavour, red and white flesh and so on...
Next try nasi Kerabu, nasi dagang also in Kg Baru (Kak Som's). Cendol, I think the person who runs the stall went for prayer, you're there when it's about the time for the Asr prayer. Cendol tapai pulut is cendol, the basic cendol + fermented glutinous rice
The main nasi lemak is just coconut rice with sambal, some peanuts and fried anchovies and half a boiled egg and some cucumber cuts. The other dishes are add on's which is not wrong at all. You can have anything you want. Try chicken or beef rendang with the nasi lemak😋😋😋

durian: if you can eat it, you will grow to like it. if you can't eat it, smelling it makes you hate it. usually, one person in each Malaysian family will hate it. while the other will love it.
2:25 should try eat at the Kak Som restaurant tho...Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Dagang or laksam are my favourite food as a Malay from east coast State Kelantan... i just had nasi lemak few times a year lol...
Hi Guys..hope u guys are always in good health.. just wanna share something.. We Malaysian usually have several believe that if u does not like Durian for the first time.. Eat again (durian) for 2-3 times more.. then u will know whether u love or does not like durian.. feel free to do it if its does not bother u guys.. thank you
First timers should try normal cendol without durian. However there is a British youtuber “ Dan v food” recently uploaded how he enjoyed his first taste of raw durians. Austrians or Scandinavians with a really strong smelly cheese tradition will perhaps like durians.
Musang is Malay word mean Civet Cat, is a weasel liked animal. The reason why the king of durian called Musang King is because the Civet Cat desperately tried to open Musang King Durian even though there lots of sharp torn on the shell of durian. So people tried to eat that durian and so become king of the fruits 🤴
Thats the thing about durian....the more you takes in, the more you want it. Not all can take it though. Come to borneo you will find more varieties and colours as well. Enjoy
No! That is NOT the traditional nasi lemak, yours is more like nasi kandar or nasi campur. The traditional nasi lemak should only have these ingredients, coconut milk rice, sambal, cucumber, fried anchovies, peanuts, boiled egg(not fried egg) and sometimes water spinach(kangkong, Najib favourite vegetables). This shop serve the traditional type, just ask for nasi lemak biasa, do not add any side dishes. When nasi lemak was commercialise, the side dishes came along to increase revenue.
Hello welcome to Malaysia. You should try Nasi Lemak standard version..No additional dish which is consist of Rice, Sambal, Fried Anchovies, Hard Boil Egg and Cucumber. This is National Dish
Be really careful... Someday you will end up craving for durian.. and that is the power of durians.. Also sambal on your dishes.. and someday you will end up thinking something missing on the key ingredients of your dishes if there is no sambal.. This love and hate to durians/sambals.. is just another drama..
Hey guys, as someone who grew up in Malaysia, I don't understand why so many people recommend this place. This isn't traditional Nasi Lemak by any stretch. Traditionally, it is an inexpensive breakfast of rice cooked with coconut milk wrapped in banana leaf (to give it an aromatic flavor) with basic ingredients of sambal, anchovies, boiled egg and cucumbers. Nasi lemak literally means coconut milk rice. I guess for some locals more is better but whenever I visit Malaysia, I prefer the minimalist Nasi Lemak with the aforementioned ingredients maybe with a protein of beef rendang or fried chicken. They can be found at street vendors who serve teh tarik. Ask around.
This tasted good too and we're very open to trying the basic version as well, we love food so we have no qualms if it's from a street vendor or a shop 😊

Good job Hidayat for explaining the cendol and durian to our friends here.
Hidayat was the best! So friendly and we had no idea there was so much to know about durian haha! 😁
@@sunkissedbucketlist Lol thats true, Musang King is a premium durian breed and price is around rm40-80 per kg.
13:11 i think he is gone during tht time is bcs of, did u heard the foreign language spoken out of the speakers while u walk along the street during tht time? Tht's arabic language and around 4:30 is actually time for muslim to do their worship. He came bck from the mosque ig to open his stall bck at 5p.m. So yeah just a lil bit of info for u guys. Tht's just the worship time for them.
We know it's Salah (namaz) that he went away for 😊
@@sunkissedbucketlist ouh u're already know haha. Silly me. In malay we call it sembahyang or Solat🥰
Thanks for the suggestions 😀
@@sunkissedbucketlist Yah I agree. The most basic Nasi Lemak is the best and you should definitely try it. Nothing better! Tis something you can find easily, if you know what to ask for. Very simple, very pure and VERY good!
Nice to see you guys explore Kampung Baru, experiencing the locals spot instead of tourist spot..
Also I like u guys tried other dish to eat with nasi lemak like chicken rendang, lung, potatoes(begedil) etc..
We love going to local hangout spots rather than commercial mainstream big chain restaurants 😊 the food tasted amazingggg 🥰🥰
Thanks for letting us know 😊
Welcome to Malaysia. Hope you have an awesome time here. Here are a list of food that you should try:
1. Roti Canai with Dhal and/or Curry sauce - You can get it at any Mamak Restaurant.
2. Char Koay Teow - some of the best char koay teow can be found at hawker stalls/night markets
3. Curry Laksa
4. Satay - again you can find these at night markets/stalls by the roadside
5. Chilli Pan Mee
6. Chicken/Beef Rendang - you can eat it with rice, or if you're lucky enough you can eat it with Lemang (sticky rice soaked with coconut juice and heated up in bamboo sticks)
7. Apam Balik - dessert
8. Ramly Burger - Ramly is a brand name for the patty and you can find roadside burger stalls selling them.
ENJOY!
Ahhhh this is brilliant! We love these recommendations, thank you thank you! Cannot wait to try all of these 🥰

Im glad you enjoy Malaysian food. Im subscribing for more awesome content. Btw, Musang King is one of the tastiest durian in Malaysia.
Thanks for subscribing 😊 there's plenty more content coming up stay tuned and share with friends and family 😉👌🏻
I am totally impressed that you actually ate durian. So good that you tried. I am a Malaysian but durian is not for me. You either love or hate it. But ABC cendol, I loooove.
Taz was so eager to try it he even ate the seed lol 😆
You waited 45mins for dessert?! Whoah! That’s dedication!!!
What can we say 😂 can't resist a bit of dessert hahah 😋
Good video and good sharing
Thanks pal 😊
Glad to see you try the Wanjo nasi lemak. After this you should try the Village Park nasi lemak..order side dishes of their famous fried chicken and beef rendang. Cendol by itself is a good dessert so unless you can handle durian, you should try them separately because it doesn't give the cendol justice with the durian smell being overpowering.
Oh brilliant thanks for the recommendation! Yes, I think we made a mistake trying them together haha! We will for sure try them again but separately this time so we can decide on the flavors 😉
Village park nasi lemak is the best one in Damansara
Both of you can being a good yt content creator by yours journey all the time in Malaysia..selamat datang.. enjoy your holidays in our country the One of wonderful place in this world and many tourist call Malaysia is the truly of Asia..
We absolutely love it here in Malaysia 😊🥰
‘that perseverance pays off or your taste buds just die or get used to it’ has got to be my favourite line in this video, and the one that made me hit the subscribe button . if you guys ever come to East Malaysia, have a go at the dalit and tarap fruits. fair warning: both are of the ‘acquired taste’ category
Thanks for subscribing 😊 east Malaysia is definitely in our travel plans 🤙🏻😉
Big fan of durian here, have been eating durian since I'm a toddler! Your reactions are totally understandable since not all Malaysians can accept the smell and flavor of durian too. Thank you for at least trying and treating it with respect :)
We will absolutely try it again before we leave 😊
Durian - love it or hate it. There is no middle point🤣. Once you love it, it will be the a "fruit drugs". Super addictive.
Hahah thats so true! It's an acquired taste for sure 😋

D24 for the beginner. Musang King is another level.
Musang King is what we tried haha 😄
Keep the recommendations coming in 😊🥰 we love to hear what you guys have to suggest 😉
In general teh tarik is referred to hot milk tea. ...the iced version is referred just an iced tea ...or when you order ,just say 'teh ais'
'O' is any drinks (tea, coffee, chocolate base etc) without milk (usually condensed). It's just with sugar......
Thanks for letting us know 👌🏻 😊
The traditional version is those wrapped in banana leaf and sold at roadside for RM1.50-RM2 each pack. A simple plain nasi with sambal and anchovies
We would love to try that one too 😊🥰
@@sunkissedbucketlist reserve this version for your trip to Penang later (if u plan to travel to Penang). There is a good one for traditional pack version at Ali Nasi Lemak in Geortown Penang.
welcome to Malaysia..done
Thanks alot 😊
cute couple especially when hearing you said here's another beautiful. kopi O Milo O means that there is no added condensed milk but still has sweet taste by added sugar
Aw thank you haha! Yes, now we can be sure to order the right things 😁
the greatest trick on nasi lemak, is you take a bit of sambal with the rice, and take the runny yolk with it. it will blows your mind on how good that is, and spicy enough to take a sip of teh ais urghhhhhhhhhhh i promise you will taste the paradise on earth.
We will try it like that next time thanks for sharing the little trick 😉
If you dont like durian, try gulai tempoyak patin.
Spot on mate about the durian !
Either you instantly love it, try a few times and start loving it or totally loathe it 😂
It’s alright if you don’t like it though dear 😎

You need to mix the cendol between the palm sugar and the coconut milk. Then only you enjoy it.
@@sunkissedbucketlist because durian have seasons from may - july
That potato with meat is called a "Begedil". Very delicious. I always eat it. U can add anything to Nasi Lemak as long as it is the Glutinous Rice as the base with sambal + cucumber + peanuts + anchovies as the base. Then feel free to add any other side dishes u want with it according to your taste and preference.
Nasi lemak is just the best thing ever 🥰😍
Nasi is rice
Lemak is fat/creamy
Nasi lemak is a coconut rice... coconut milk give the creamy taste to the rice.. glutinous rice is a sticky rice. Peace
Nasi lemak is made from regular rice with coconut milk. Not glutinous rice.
Oh wow thanks for letting us know 😊
Hi guys, I am Malaysian, so I must admit I love durians, its basically taste creamy sweet fruit. It made me wonder why its not liked by Westminsters. Its just fruit,
We will certainly try durian again 😀
It's smells like socks and the texture is squishy. Not like other fruits. But it's has nice taste. And I eat durian occasionally

Thanks for sharing this wonderful video n for showing your first experience eating d fav Malaysian national dish, nasi lemak n durian too.
We loveddddd it 🥰
@@sunkissedbucketlist I'm glad to hear that.

We will try our best to check it out, thanks for the suggestion 😀

I like the bitter durian

Next try nasi Kerabu, nasi dagang also in Kg Baru (Kak Som's).
Cendol, I think the person who runs the stall went for prayer, you're there when it's about the time for the Asr prayer.
Cendol tapai pulut is cendol, the basic cendol + fermented glutinous rice
Thank you so much for the recommendations! We'll absolutely go back to Kampung Baru and try more, it was so delicious! 😋
Ahhh that makes sense. We loved this meal so so much. The food here is irresistible 😍

Oh wow that's interesting, thanks for sharing 👍🏻 😊
Thats the thing about durian....the more you takes in, the more you want it. Not all can take it though. Come to borneo you will find more varieties and colours as well. Enjoy
Hahah!! We have tried it a little again and it's growing on us slightly LOL 😆
We'll try the basic next time 🤙🏻😊
Cendol..you have to mix everything first then only eat..same goes to nasi lemak.. 👌👌
We have been told by so many people now and we will make sure we mix properly next time haha 😄
Yeah..u must mix together some or all of the "ingredients" in ur plate to get the best oommmppphh out of your nasi lemak😁..same with the cendol.

Way to go, Dave! 👍👏👏👏
Dave says he loves it 🤣🤣
It's an acquired taste, Durian
@@sunkissedbucketlist If you guys like eggs and seafood do try Or Chien (fried oyster omelette) especially in penang. One of my all time favorites but they are not so commonly found.
