We especially went to Ipoh, Malaysia to try Nasi Ganja, the iconic and famous local dish.
It is not what it sounds like but it's totally addictive and left us realising why the locals absolutely love it. No trip to Ipoh, Malaysia would ever be complete without trying their famous Nasi Ganja (Nasi Kandar).

ICe kacang=ABC(air batu campur) mixed ice. Traditional chendol is just shaved ice with the green striped jelly, coconut milk and palm sugar while ABC has lots of other things like corn, kidney bean, nuts etc and drenched with rose syrup and evaporated milk

But definitely different from the cendol dessert which uses coconut milk and usually has less ingredients

Greetings…Nasi Kandar is originated probably in 1960s or even older. As you guys know nasi is rice & kandar is carrying on the shoulder. This is how those days the peddlers use to carry around the streets.
Having said that, they don’t carry much varieties of dishes or gravy(curry) too. Basically a person(those days) will request to add or mix all types of gravy & topped with hard boiled egg as well as a cut of fish or chicken plus the simplest but yet nutritional tasty okra.
This is still in my memory because I was born in 1967 & Penang is my hometown. The tradition of carrying on their shoulder ended somewhere in mid or late 70s I guess. So, if you were ask me how do I like my nasi kandar, nothing beat the old school way of dishes.
Thank you so much for your nice video & hope you guys are safe & healthy always.

Older Perakians call it Ais Kacang ( kacang means ground nuts), even though it has more than just nuts. The shaved ice and condiments are drenched in sweet syrup. When i was a child, ais kacang would be a family treat.
As a teenager i discovered ABC in KL and other states but its exactly ais kacang! 😅
Now in Ipoh if you call for ABC, most places will give u ais kacang with aiscream topping.
Cendol is the green jelly topped with Coconut milk & melted palm sugar. U can add ons to your basic cendol other condiments like red beans, sweet corn, glutinous rice, etc. My favourite is with glutinous rice. 🤤
Nasi ganja is not only addictive but makes u sleepy & high afterwards… hence the name. 😵‍💫

ABC a short form for - Air Batu Campur (shave ice mix with syrup). This is the basic ABC or called Ais Kacang as well. The main different ABC and Chendol, ABC has a red bean and Chendol don't have that. You will get different kind of ABC at different places..100 place, 100 kind of ABC you will get..the best so far I try, it's in JB..lol

Welcome to Ipoh, my hometown. I've been to Yong Suan restaurant for Nasi Ganja since 1970s when I was a kid. In this restaurant, it's common to share table with strangers as it always packed with people.
It's good to see both of you using spoon instead of fork.
ABC stands for Air Batu Campur, literally means "mixed ice" because the shave ice will be mixed with so many things like corns, peanuts, jelly, green cendol, condensed milk, syrup etc. Ais Kacang and ABC are the same thing, the difference is Ais Kacang is the term usually used by the Singaporean
