Salaam 🙋♀Nasi (rice) lemak (creamy/fatty) basically consists of the creamy coconutty rice, fried anchovies, cucumber slices, peanuts, egg and the spicy sambal sauce. That's the nasi lemak starter kit. Everything else added whether it's chicken, beef, potato patty (bergedil), tempeh etc are accompaniments that add to the flavour and make it a complete meal. Some people prefer just the basic, but some add on more protein cos it's tastier that way. So regardless of whether you added chicken or beef, it's all still nasi lemak, that' why the girl looked a little puzzled when you asked what nasi it was with beef 😁 This shop specialises in nasi lemak along with many add on options.
Hi from a Malaysia, the most famous nasi lemak restaurant I know so far is village park restaurant in damansara Utama, Petaling jaya. Its always full of people and do make sure you come about 10am for lunch cause there will be long queue during lunch time. Their nasi lemak chicken is very very nice
Nasi lemak is a Malay dish which is traditionally served with rice simmered with coconut milk, sambal (a chilli paste fried with onions, garlic, and some people have their own versions of it), fried anchovies, eggs, and cucumbers. This is the typical basic version. Addition of chicken, beef, prawn, seafood etc., is to give it more flavourful experience to the palate. The rendang you saw is similar to curry but is cooked using very different ingredients, the flavour profile is more herbal and spice, rather than the distinct curry flavour you get. The soy based patty is called "tempeh" which is prepared by fermenting soy beans and pressing them into a patty, it's unique texture and taste is reminiscent of the Japanese natto. The fried potato paste (I jokingly call it Malaysian potato croquet) is called begedil. Some people mix minced meat into it as well to give it more nutrition, as well as texture. It's also often blended with some fine minced vegetables to give it more aroma and flavour. Hope you love it, and there's so much more food in Malaysia left to savour. Have fun! I'd also recommend you to try nasi kerabu, one of my faves too. 😁
Quick trivia in Malaysia, any extra add on curry/sambal or soup are free so just put any that you want, of course it will only free if you don't add it with the meat such as beef, fish or chicken or seafood,so go blast
basic nasi lemak is just nasi(rice) + ikan bilis(anchovies) + sambal(sauce) + timun(cucumbers) + kacang tanah(peanuts). what are you having are lot of topping/side dish such as ayam kari/rendang(chicken with curry/rendang sauce) + ayam masak merah(chicken with tomato sauce) + bergedil(fried mashed potato) +tempe goreng(fried fermented soy bean) + telor goreng(sunny side fried egg)
Nasi lemak comes with sambal not chilli sauce. Chilli sauce is a cousin of ketchup. You don't have to use your hands..just use the cutlery, whatever is convenient for you. To eat nasi lemak the local way is to mix the sambal with the rice and eat together with the other egg, chicken, etc.
Nasi Lemak is the basic, rice cook in coconut milk, cucumber, sambal, fried anchovies and peanuts... But then you can add on beef, chicken, squid/calamari... Still nasi lemak... Nasi Daging is another dish, originates from the northern state of kedah, the rice is cooked in the beef broth with spices such as cinnamon, star anise etc, serve with air Asam (tamarind juice, chilli, tomato, kerisik (toasted coconut)) and jelatah (pickled cucumber, pineapple, onions, chilli etc) and some serve it with a bowl of beef broth too.

Nasi lemak comprises of the coconut rice, sambal, anchovies and egg. I dont really care about the peanut and cucumber tho hehe it depends on people. But all of the other stuffs are not a part of nasi lemak. Btw we eat nasi lemak with spoon
You exactly putting so many add ons..😂 Regular Nasi Lemak is only Rice+sambal+egg+cucumber+some anchovies without chicken . You should ask for basic nasi lemak like below than Rm2. Some stall serve with banana leaf. Hope you enjoy in this country 👍😁
Yes....that was what I was thinking.....too many side dishes.....you missed all the flavor of nasi lemak itself ....nasi lemak with fried egg is good enough I think...or perhaps with a fried chicken will do....I am saying this bcoz this is the first time for him to try nasi lemak....
I think you are confused big time... haha nasi is rice & lemak means fatty or creamy (because the nasi is cooked in coconut milk) the original traditional nasi lemak will consist of: 1. rice cooked in coconut milk 2. fried anchovies (sometimes already included in the sambal) 3. sambal (the chilli sauce) 4. slices of cucumbers 5. boiled egg (modified version of nasi lemak uses fried egg) 6. fried peanuts (sometimes without cos people just dont like it) modern nasi lemak then add some additional side dishes (as sold by wanjo): 1. ayam (chicken) goreng (fried) 2. ayam rendang 3. ayam merah (the red-not-so-spicy chicken) 4. daging (meat, usually beef) rendang 5. daging kari (curry) 6. bergedil (pronounced as 'burger-deal', the potato mashed with meat) 7. tempeh (the fermented soy beans)
That looks like a beef cutlet. What you have on your plate are all side dishes. The original / traditional nasi lemak only has anchovies sambal, fried anchovies, fried peanuts, few slices of cucumber, coconut milk flavoured rice and a boiled egg. It's normally wrapped in banana leaf for the fragrance and taste. That's original. What you're having are just modern add ons on the plate.
In South East Asia we use fork and spoon for the rice and dishes with plate...scoop and eat the rice with the spoon😂 practically all westerners eat rice with a fork. Why lol
This is not nasi lemak.. nasi lemak is simple dishes. Nasi lemak plus sambal, fried fish + ikan bilis, cucumber..egg maybe. If more than this meant nasi campur.. Anyway enjoy.. Yummy!

@@mohdzaki1089 agree, and in writings too we,re almost 100% understand each others standard writings, but when it comes to speaking we have a bit troubles to recognize each others accent/dialects for certain words, it ll be worse if the speaker speaks too fast and strong. The way we read alphabet also different,
This is an indonesian way
th-cam.com/video/YpYsxm3DMWw/w-d-xo.html
Malaysian use similar way to UK/US except Z sounds zac/zee.
Indonesia also uses alot of shortened-combined-form which in some points malaysians have no idea at all. example:
ORTU for orang+tua, malaysians understand full words orang tua but ortu for malaysians sounds awkward.
PULKAM for pulang+kampung, malaysians understand full words pulang kampung. Other eg korut korsel jadul ketipu jatim jakten kalbar and so forth...
Boss try nasi lemak at Bangsar Village too...very famous in KL.....the fried chicken is mabeles
Alright I'll try to check out this place
Don't forget to visit the East coast peninsula state of Malaysia like Kelantan or Terengganu. These states have the most authentic traditional Malaysian food unlike what you see in KL.
awesome! I'll try to make it out there :)
I like to eat nasi lemak at this place too
Nice 🙂
You Amerika syarikat to Malaysia 🗿 mantap bos
Thank you 😃
That looks sooo delicious 😋 May you eat always in good health 🤲
Thank you, do you want me to send you some Nasi Lemak?

Big boi plate 😁👍 potato beef call Be ge dil .
Haha yes big boy plate 😂
hi brother. the girl who wrapping your rice is giving you free chicken. at minutes 11.10 sec. the 3 ringgit is rice only. she is so generous. i am so sorry. my english not good enough.
Your English is good! Don't worry. She was a very nice lady 😃
its nasi lemak regardless if you put chicken or beef..
Cool 😁
Loves spicy food? Amazing..
Spicy for life 😁
He rated8 the nasi lemak 10 over 10.
Yup 😀
finally you eated nasi lemak........don't forget "Cendol Durian" at Jalan Chow Kit 😉. One food haven you can try "Tapak Urban Street Dining", Persiaran Hampshire, off, Jln Ampang, Hampshire Park, 50450 Kuala Lumpur, only at night
Another place to go to try local food is KL Night Street at Sri Rampai Biz Park (Monday off)
durian is unpalatable for most americans i think, so its not recomended to add durian in cendol, just ask a normal cendol is good enuf.
Thanks Dr. Ramlan. I'll try to eat at the places you suggested
Ok I'll look into to it 🤠
I love durian, I think I can handle it😉
Nasi lemak comprises of the coconut rice, sambal, anchovies and egg. I dont really care about the peanut and cucumber tho hehe it depends on people. But all of the other stuffs are not a part of nasi lemak. Btw we eat nasi lemak with spoon
Nice, some of my friends tell me to use my hand 😅
Easy way to use your hand, scoop rice with 4finger and than push with thumb into your mouth.
Thanks for the advice 😉
Biar lah dia Makan. Kalau kita org sini Boleh lah nak Makan jimat. Mereka ni bila Makan, mereka akan Cuba Semua ok
Thanks for the info, now I know chicken and beef are add ONS
@@TravelingSoloLogs ouh great, happy to hear that😁
I love to add many dishes, up to your preference 😊
I think you are confused big time... haha
nasi is rice & lemak means fatty or creamy (because the nasi is cooked in coconut milk)
the original traditional nasi lemak will consist of:
1. rice cooked in coconut milk
2. fried anchovies (sometimes already included in the sambal)
3. sambal (the chilli sauce)
4. slices of cucumbers
5. boiled egg (modified version of nasi lemak uses fried egg)
6. fried peanuts (sometimes without cos people just dont like it)
modern nasi lemak then add some additional side dishes (as sold by wanjo):
1. ayam (chicken) goreng (fried)
2. ayam rendang
3. ayam merah (the red-not-so-spicy chicken)
4. daging (meat, usually beef) rendang
5. daging kari (curry)
6. bergedil (pronounced as 'burger-deal', the potato mashed with meat)
7. tempeh (the fermented soy beans)
Thanks for the info, I'm only partly confused because I'm a foreigner 😂 The Nasi Lemak I had was a special one 😁
So I got the special Modern Nasi Lemak. Next time I'll go for the traditional one 😃
@@TravelingSoloLogs haha kinda 😅 🤷🏿♂️
thats all is nasi lemak, the meat chicken and beef varieties is just like addons or toppings to the nasi lemak
I see, toppings to make it extra delicious
In South East Asia we use fork and spoon for the rice and dishes with plate...scoop and eat the rice with the spoon😂 practically all westerners eat rice with a fork. Why lol
Haha the fork just feels better 😂
The messy it got, the more delicious it get. And here people doesnt even care if youre a messy eater as long as u enjoy your food to the fullest.
Thanks for the positive vibes 😃
Nice
Thanks John!
Do you recite Bismillah before start eating?
Yes sir 😁
This is not nasi lemak.. nasi lemak is simple dishes. Nasi lemak plus sambal, fried fish + ikan bilis, cucumber..egg maybe. If more than this meant nasi campur.. Anyway enjoy.. Yummy!
Hopefully next I'll go for the basic one
delicious 🤩👍
Indeed 😊
Nasi lemak + milo...fuuuhhh bertambah sakit perut
It was fine for me 😁
Milo, originally pronounced 'my lo'. A chocolate malt drink. It is pronounced Nah si. 'A' in all Asian languages is sounded as 'Ah'.
I see, people in other countries have a different pronunciation 😃
@@TravelingSoloLogs Originally a British product marketed under Nestlê brand. It, i think is taken from the name Venus de Milo, that partially broken statue of goddess Venus. I grew up on Milo, i am now 67. Being more English educated than many chinese or other language educated Malaysians, i learnt it was as My lo. But majority dont know n pronounce it mi lo. Anyway if my pronunciation is not understood by local vendors i readily switch to mi lo that they get! Incidentally Milo was for many years the official Olympic Games supplied drink for the Athletes. Still very popular here in Malaysia. All coffee shops use this, though there are more chocolatey tasting other locally produced brands now in the market. A visit to any supermarket will prove my statement true
@@TravelingSoloLogs it is said Malaysian milo is the best in South East Asia. Most Indonesians would bring home packets of Malaysian Milo even tho they do have their own version of Milo.
Clever eat with hand
Haha I tried but it's hard with all the sauces 😂
Basic nasi lemak is with boiled egg......your plate is full of everything...
Haha, i had get the variety
You should used all your five fingers to shove your food into your mouth.
And when using fork and spoon, we used spoon more. The fork duty is to push the food into the spoon
Nice, I like your eating style 😉
bismillah? i must subscribe !
Of course Bismillah! Always before eating! 😃
Hi bro.. i wonder whats your origin?
Maybe yeman, iraq, egypt?
Im i guessing right 🌹
Hey, my origins is not from any of those countries
When the Indonesians first came to Malaysia they could only speak Indonesian. After a few years they speak good bahasa Malaysia like the locals and gain another language - English, if the live in KL.
Great, thanks for the info Ibrahim 😁
@@TravelingSoloLogs and most workers in reataurants and foodstalls are Indonesians, Bangladeshis and Indians. Not Malaysians. In other sectors such as in construction, factory, sanitation, security, plantation, domestic helps, are manned by foreigners as well. When talking with them dont talk too fast. Most Malaysians can catch what you say. But use simple English.
U still in Malaysia sir? Btw that nasi lemak looks tasty asl, u might gain 5kg in a week if u take it everyday lol
Yes, I am! Haha I'm trying to work out a little everyday to keep in shape 😉
@@TravelingSoloLogs ye you should, stay safe and have a good trip sir!😊
Tips:
Instead of using hand, Malaysian usually use spoon to eat rice, not with fork. 😆
Haha, the fork not bad when eating rice 😂
NOT 3 FINGERS EAT BY HAND USE ALL FINGERS IF U EAT RICE BUT NT 3 FNGRS...
Haha I still need practice
Use your five fingers to scoop the rice to your mouth but use your thumb to shove the food inside your mouth thats how to eat with hand.
Thanks, I'm not use to it 😂
10 out of 10 😭 11:33
What do you think?
at malaysia, you must eat little bit, mean nasi lemak with chicken, then enough. if eat too much , food will become not delicious. 🤣. after that you can eat more other things.
Haha I was stuffed for days 😂
Please talk a bit slow, some of Malaysian citizen can't hear your correctly or some of people can't understand because ur accent. Please forgive them..ok brother, Good luck n have fun 👍✌️✌️
Yeah I'll keep that in mind for next time. Thank you 😃
