I just saw a youtube commercial for this watch and it is hilarious! The best watch commercial ever! This design is so close to a Vintage Brietling. I love the design.
Just bought the RA-AP0003S10A. Because I live in Belgium I couldn't order it with you, but did so in Holland. Yet, I want Orient to know that I got to know about it thanks to your videos. Beautiful watch!. Keep up the good work Mark!
The date window feels off and could have been a 38 mm case size with a 20 mm lug width but I love the see through case back and that it's hack-able! So glad you finally have this in the shop, Mark and hopefully available worldwide soon. Would love to have the Rose gold one. :)
A very good Review! Thank you! The first reviewed Watch is my first Bambino I own and i love it. Followed also your other Reviews on other Generations of the Bambinos. I love your Style of reviewing, focussing on the watches, also and esp, your Camera work! I´ll check in to your channel and again Thanks for your work and very good Review. 10 out of 10 Points, Sir!
Thanks for reviewing these, Mark. Ever since I first saw these on the Orient USA site, I have wanted one. I was use waiting for you to get them. Once I decide between the champagne or black dial, I am ordering one. While a smaller version would be cool, 40 mm fits my wrist just fine. :-)
This watch looks like my Dad's old Elgin pocket watch, I need one on that aspect alone lol plus it just looks so damn good! Orient really has a good thing going with the Bambino line. I have the version 4 and a version 3 coming soon. I gonna have to stop by one day and buy this one off you.
I do recall asking about the OH a few weeks ago... so I'm stoked. (This small sec vers feels off: the date window, the sec complication on the 3rd below the equidistant instead of half or lower, non-screwback... I'll say the type face for the applied arabics is quite nice)
@@islandwatch Can you tell me how to open the caseback? Normally there are screws on the case back or some kind of little slots to open it with a case opener. But this caseback look almost blank. Is there a notch on the site to open it with a knife?
From my perspective you have been missed. This is the watch that will likely bring back for another Orient. I have two Orient Star Watches that I love. I get much better accuracy than their stated accuracy of +/- 10 seconds/day. They also stay wound on my wrist even better than Omega watches do. Marc, I applaud your efforts to maintain some balance between work and home life! Your family will never forget the holiday to Disney (even if it is more expensive than is reasonable)! Keep on keepin’ on!
I love this, I'm thinking of selling my Cream dial, Blue hands version and getting one. As a bloke with 7.5'+ wrist, it's a good size, even slightly small looking on me, so there's an unpopular view!
Nice video I like it because I’m looking for a good looking automatic dress watch and cant decide for the color, but after this I really go for the champagne dial. Thanks bro keeping up!
That champagne dial version is gorgeous. I just wish it wouldn't have the date. I normally love the day/date complication, but this watch would be more classic looking without it. Removing the date complication might also shave a mm off the thickness. Still, I am so glad someone is looking back to the tried and proven elegant designs of the past (vintage Omegas come to mind).
If you say boo no blue! I say boo no anthracite! absolutely loved the anthracite on the last bambino i purchased from you. Might just get this champagne though lol
My work around for getting this watch when i eventually do is to have it shipped to a relative in Canada and then shipped over here in the Philippines., great looking watch!
Arvius Morvis hai, you can buy it from Indonesia, the shipping costs could be more inexpensive than shipping from canada. just check matchwatch.com, I bought mine from them last December. Sorry Mark, just wanted to give some advice here. :) ooh.,, and the champagne dial is so gorgeous indeed!!
Great vid as usual Marc, and even though I'm saving my sheckels for a new Grand Seiko, I'm severely tempted by that champagne dial. But, unfortunately I have to deduct you a point for referring to the dauphine hands as "sword style" hands at 5:13. :) Just bustin' your chops, mate... Still though. 1 point off.
Exactly what I was going to say. Daupine hands taper from wide at the center to a point like alpha hands, but are faceted. Sword hands get wider, then narrower (e.g. Seiko's SNK or most Cartier watches). If a sword hand is tapered continuously so there are no sharp angles but the point, it's a leaf hand.
Just getting into watches and have been thinking about getting a Bambino. I think I like this one best, either in white or champagne. Oh, there's something funny at 10:55.
Like the black visodate, they should make the hand and hour marks either satin or even brushed so they dont reflect as much and have a better contrast with the black dial
Just ordered this watch and am looking forward to getting it next week. I am curious why people don't like the 21mm lug width? is it because of the aesthetics or because it's an odd size strap and replacement options are limited? Looking at the video I don't see where the 1mm difference makes any difference from a looks perspective.
You know, the one and only thing keeping me from buying this watch is the date complication sitting right beside the 3. If the 3 wasn't there or if the date wasn't there I'd be buying this watch immediately.
Hear, hear! It's the one thing keeping me away as well! It would be a perfect watch without the date. Why can't Orient make a version without the date?!?!?
@P B, I thought the same when I saw the champagne dial one, but the rest aren't that bad. I have zero problems with the date window on those, but the first one... *shivers*
Beautiful watches. Does the strap taper at all at the end? If I change the clasp out with a deployment clasp, should I order an 18mm clasp or a 20mm clasp?
Even though I love the champagne color dial one, my favourite Bambino has to remain the AC00009N, with the cream dial, the romans and those beautiful blue hands. However this small seconds version (as well as the open heart version that you'll show someday) has this fantastic feature that I love so much which is the back display. Love the enjoyment of "seeing the magic happening" as TGV puts it. I'd just love if Orient did a new version of the AC0009N with a back display. I'd pull the trigger in a hearbeat! Do you know if this is ever going to happen? Will they ever make new versions of the previous Bambinos with back display on them?
I doubt it. I do agree the 9N is easily the most pleasing of the bunch. Regarding the dislpay backs, I don't think it's necessary. I guess if you only own one watch, sure.
I too, will wait till they get rid of the date complication. Otherwise I love the watch. I prefer the 40mm size because I have large wrists and whilst I love antique watches and everyone bangs on about dress watches have to be small, I just don't feel comfortable wearing a small watch. I also reckon it's a bit crook that LIW can't sell outside USA / CA. What's that all about?
Closest thing so far is the Open Heart, the no date and 9 O'clock OH is perfect. Not 38mm, but you'll be waiting a long time to find a budget dress with those specs in 38mm these days. Go vintage diving.
You’re looking for the Orient Star Classic. Similar aesthetic, higher level of quality in every regard, a cool complication, all at 38.5mm. Still relatively affordable, too.
Just received my small seconds, champagne-colored bambino. There's one problem. It's so beautiful on the pillow that I don't want to begin wearing it. Almost like a painting you're not allowed to touch.
Mark, I brought the sapphire replacement crystal from you this week. Are you sure the caseback is snap on? I don’t see any divets on the case that allow a tool to fit under. I don’t want to tear up the watch trying to pry the back off of it doesn’t pry off. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Timothy, i'm considering buying that piece with replacement crystal as well, however couldn't find any photos/videos of that watch with dome replaced with sapphire. Could you take a quick video, and share link with me? And one more thing - did they give you a feedback and solved your issue? Thanks in advance for replaying!
Fantastic looking watches with hacking and hand winding ,unfortunately the case width and lug size spoils what would be a must have watch,36 or 38mm case 18 or 20mm luggs
When will you post the video on the Orient Bambino Open Hearts? Im very interested in adding it to my collection but am holding off until I see your vid. Anyways, great content as always
I bet 38mm is coming. I had a black bambino - got rid of it because I couldn't read it in low light situations. I think the fix could be a small amount of lume on the hands.
I am from India....I could understand why orient had resrtriced their new SS sales....as they are not yet released in their Indian website sales.....K, can u summarize all versions of Bambino from V1 to SS....M eager ly waiting for ur review
question for mark ? Is orient star realy better quality movement and rest or its just another market trick. p.s. I want to but one and the price is 100dolar difference what is nothing for me if i can get better quality..
I love orient, and I love sub seconds. However, something went wrong during design, and qc failed to stop it... Too big a case, too small a date window (make it bigger or disappear), too high a sub second, and an illegitimate lug width. I guess one still needs to buy a orient star classic or deal with the bambinos short coming, but it's a big leap in price. I was excited about a sub second bambino, but this just doesn't work for me. Sorry Marc, but the real bambino killer has yet to be born. The day orient release a 36mm, 18mm lug width, bambino, is the day I'll be putting my gen 2 ver 2 bambino on ebay, and giving you another sale. How long did Timex take to sell out of the reissued Marlins?
as dress watches go i've become a big fan of smaller sizes. i bought the blue and black version 4 a while ago and i love the color. gets very little wrist time because it's a whopping 42 mm. it's beautiful and I keep it only because of the color. if only they made it smaller i'd buy others. sadly it seems orient is going like seiko...making things bigger.
I love the Bambino but I have a problem with friction back/pop-on backs, I find them cheap & nasty & as mentioned, less water resistant in many cases. I also don't like the display case back on this model, the solid screw on is the one for me. The face is beautiful along with the inlay seconds.....very classic 1950s look. I would still choose the Gen 2, Ver 2 over this one, it really looks great.
Long Island Watch Hey don't be Marc. Just hope that the Distributor make it available Worldwide soon. This is a stunning piece I want to add to my collection especially the Champagne dial.
My smallest dress watch is 34mm and my largest dress watch is 43mm. I think my version 2 gen 2 bambino is the perfect size at 40.5mm. My wrist is 7.25 in.
Beautiful watch, but drop the date window and shrink it down to a 38-39mm w/a 20mm lug. The dimensions are far too big for the style. And there’s no need for a date window if there is a small seconds complication. Reverie did this with their Sea-Spirit and it just over cluttered and ruined the dial.
No blue dial. That's a real shame. If Orient made a blue dial version of this I would be all over it. Champagne, white, and black are nice but blue is a real showstopper.
I just bought one of these online from Long Island Watch a couple of weeks ago.
It's a beautiful watch - I absolutely love it. So glad I bought it!

If it was between 38 mm with a 18 mm strap, I'll would be buying this watch so quickly, come on, is a dress watch !!!
Great video Mark!
Check out the Monarch maybe?
The classic Seiko 5 is where you go for that size watch.
@@robc8468 Agreed.
Just bought 750 (to drive up the price) of them to artificially drive up the market. Thanks for helping me out Mark!
LOL
Ordered mine on the weekend can’t wait to see it on my wrist. And of course it was the champagne model! Thanks Mark. 👍
Great choice, thank you.
Got it! Love it.

I absolutely agree with you. The date window is a mistake in the style of this watch. Also, 38 mm is the right size.

Most welcome.
Blows my mind they don’t make a smaller Bambino that can be worn as a dress watch for average/smaller wrists. Come on, Orient!
Hopefully they are listening!

To me, this watch has the best looking dial design of all Bambinos.
Well you are wrong, second version is the best.

What the Bambino needs is: a sapphire crystal.
Or an acrylic crystal to capture that vintage feel
Domed sapphire crystals don’t look as good as other materials’ domed crystals
You can order one from Crystal times
Great job!

Thanks for watching.
Is it difficult to get different straps on that watch ?
It reminds me of the old Waltham and benrus watches of the 60s early 70s but larger case size
You need to source 21mm leather or SS bands that will work with the Orient Bams.
We sell three different 21mm straps and have covered it in another video.
How mach price
I'm now torn between a Cream Bambino, this Champaign Classic, or the Timex Mariner.....hmm
The white is not sunburst like the champagne?
Does that mean orient is not seiko anymore?
The size is perfect, but that lug width is a dealbraker.
to bad for the window date :(
This might just have to be my break into Orient. Loving the small seconds.

No blue dial. That's a real shame. If Orient made a blue dial version of this I would be all over it. Champagne, white, and black are nice but blue is a real showstopper.
The open heart one does! Hold tight.
It is owned by Epson, not Seiko, but Epson full name is Seiko Epson, eh? All is owned by Seiko group, so yes, Orient is owned by Seiko.
I think 38-39mm is good size for the dress watch, and no date.
I think it´s the other way around, Seiko own Epson.
