I've been a long fan of this modell, Certina DS-2. So I tried my luck and bought one in an auction. The watch was heavily worn but I saw that it had a beautiful dial under the cracked glass.
The watch was a joy to work on, Certinas from 1970 is built like a tank, solid thick metall and robust parts.
In the end after all work I think this watch turned out very good, movement is in a good condition also. Ready for new action :D

Good job overall, but why did you take the new mainspring out of the holder ring just to wind it up again? You know you can just push them directly into the Barrel from that ring?

@@chrvgts528 yeah I noticed that as well, usually you can just pop it in from the ring. If it was an older type of spring, I'd add some hp-1300 preferably dragged out on the whole spring but here I'd just put 4 spots evenly and let it soak down in the spaces.. But a new spring has a coating, don't need lube.

I've been a watch collector since I was 15. Without words or music, this video tells why. I was a "how does it work" curious boy growing up, taking apart trashed small appliances to understand the mechanics. At about 8 or 9, I could completely disassemble and reassemble my bike, then a lawnmower. Before I could drive, I made money in the summer repairing lawnmowers. In the 7th grade, I had wood & metal shop. Starting with my first, I worked on my own cars. Years later, this is why I love and collect watches. These tiny brilliant machines are like trophies to men who laid under a car and got dirty, oily, and knuckle busted. And when we dress, our fine watch tells the story. Thank you for this video.

When I first saw this video, I took a look at how long the video was, and I was like "pfft, I'm probably just going to skim through it real quick" But the more I watched, the harder it became for me to move. I don't think anybody can see something like this and not have a huge amount of respect for watchmakers that do everything by hand. Not many people understand and appreciate the work that goes into making watches. You can't help but be in awe. Beautiful work.

What a master craftsman you are, I am in awe. I have rescued animals, domestic and wild and fixed broken wings, gashes, bad health, trauma, babies, and now I fix sewing machines and restore furniture. I am always fixing things. I love to know how things work. Watches are a specialist job and a labor of love. So beautiful to share your knowledge and how these mechanical masterpieces of engineering work and the purpose of the jewels. I read that the modern sapphires and rubies are synthetic, and being harder than metal, work well as bearings which won't wear down with friction, nor produce heat. The modern sapphire crystal glass is also harder than glass and made from aluminum oxide and heat treatment. The higher cost comes from pricey tools needed to cut such a hard material and polish it. The old watches had real gems. So a 17 jewel Swiss watch was a luxury item. In my childhood, young adults inherited a grandparent's watch, and it was a huge gift.

Amazing to watch you work and see all the equipment that you use, I remember my father fixing watches back in the 1960s, he did it as a hobby with very little equipment, most of the things he used he had made himself, he used lighter fuel for cleaning parts and metal polish to clean the glass he also used nail varnish as a thread seal, he would sit for hours fixing them for friends and relatives and enjoying every minute of it, he had a table with a white cloth on it that nobody was allowed to touch and he would lay out all the parts and replace them in reverse order your video invoked such happy memories

This is why we like automatic watches, a tiny mechanical beating heart inside it, that is so romantic. What a beautiful video. I've always said: now I treat cancer, but in my next life I will be a watchmaker. This video explains it why.

I'm extremely pleased with your fine workmanship of this lovely Certina DS-2, restoring the timepiece to its original beauty. A month ago my teenage watchmaker daughter restored an identical Certina model, making me proud of her skill and meticulous care. She used to have severe OCD, but the organized way of watch restoration has helped her enormously. She watched this video with glee, remarking on your wonderful restoration of which she thanks you. As do I. Wishing you all the best, with thanks from Wendi and daughter Billie, UK 🌻🌻

Absolutely amazing! was in awe just watching this beautiful time piece come to life. The skill it takes, to basically disect the entire watch and put it all back together, all those tiny screws and gears knowing where they all fit in, i headache just trying to figure how you effortlessly put them all back again it was like a math problem being solved and you still wondering how the solution was found 😄, it was like putting back together a classic vintage car with all the original parts, just awesome skills. 😃

That was just awesome and the best part was the hand polishing on the case. I also like the simple cleaning technique with naptha and alcohol as I have a small bench and not a lot of room for a cleaning machine. I've watched quite few various watch resto vids. I've taken a few apart and put them back together again. First I've seen that I can recall someone adjust the lever above the hair spring. I like the oiling part you went right through it a lot of people stop and talk about the grease and the various wights of oil in the right places but you went right through which was good. It was pretty self explanatory. Thanks! I learned quite a bit.
