BlackFire is now officially Klein's outdoor gear brand. Klein started experimenting with other products a while back and decided to start BlackFire as a separate Klein brand to not confuse people or water down the Klein name in the electrical industry. HQ is in Texas.
While the description says "tool only" it does come with one each of a bi-metal th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI and HCS blade plus an adaptor plate for non-DeWalt blades. Wish I had known that before I bought the blade kit, but oh well. Since I already have a DeWalt drill, charger and batteries there was no need to buy more of those so this was a great deal. There is one other consideration. DeWalt does't sell the depth guide separately so you need to buy the three parts which make it up -- the N275350 block assy, the N275341 metal rod and the N278801 knob. Amazon does sell all three.
I concur with your statement about the Ozark Trails Multiforce and the customer service. I had mine over a year as a backup because of another reviewer. I pulled it out last week and actually snapped one of the plier jaws off right at the pivot. I took it to my local store without a receipt or packaging and the lady behind the counter told me she would bend the rules and do a direct swap if i could find the exact tool. They had 1 in the store. I grabbed it and walked out of the store with a brand new tool!
The best part of the Multiforce, for me, is the bit driver. The bit that comes with it is small, however it doesn't take much effort to find bits that fit the tool. Going through my grandfather's old tool box, I even found a robust 3 inch long nail puller attachment, a marlin spike, large screwdrivers and a quarter inch socket adapter. This find, pushed the Multiforce well past the Wave in functionality for me. And I've found that bits from some Klein and Dewalt tools fit as well.
I really fell in love with that Blackfire HDMT1 Heavy-Duty Multi-Tool --- only to discover that it's discontinued and Amazon doesn't offer it while both Walmart and Home Depot show it online as "unavailable" and Klein says it's discontinued. Such a tease. Do a video on multitools that have really good pliers! Beefy. Skip all the bottle opener crap. A small knife, A great pair of pliers/wire cutters, and a strong inline bit holder. Put the effort into those and you can scrap the rest.
Great options, not everyone wants to or can spend more than 100 bucks to get basically the same functions. I would still consider paying a premium just because of the 25 year warranty of leatherman or the lifetime guaranty of victorinox. But then again, those mean jack shit if you lose those tools. Glad there are good options for a tighter budget, helps everyone:)
Im glad for all your options. In my country for $40 i bought a Leatherman ratchet driver and for another 40 the kit bit. Decent quality mt start at $60. SOG or Gerber. My Surge is 200 euros, was 40 euros cheaper last year and another 40 few years ago.
I have a Bolster Leatherman, new for Christmas and I broke the flathead screwdriver today, as I was using it to take down some decorations. When I tried to pull a staple from the wall with the screwdriver, the metal stopper at the back of the screwdriver just flexed and bent allowing the bit to flip over backward over 15° from its axis, coming around the top of the handle. Very unusual as the tool is very strong for many uses. The Bolster has a warranty from Leatherman, including Costco's 100% satisfaction guarantee, so I will have no problem returning it and getting a replacement. Still, one of the best tools I have because this one is my second one. The first one I got as a gift last year and my brother wanted it so bad, that I gifted mine to him last year and got a new one this year for me.
Thanks for this review. Ive been looking for my first multitool and went with the multiforce that will arrive today. It seems youre one of the few that knows his stuff about multitools. Thank you
I carry a Leatherman Sidekick and it's the best midsize pocket multitool around. When I bought my first one it cost me $38... they're just a little more than that now. But the new Bolster seems like a great alternative, lower cost, lighter, all the same tools minus the saw.
I got lucky and picked up 3 of the multiforce for $25 each on an overstock sale. Two went in to the bags and I EDC one. I've had no issues with it in almost a year of carrying it. Multiforce also comes with a pocket clip that the Leatherman wave doesn't and would cost you another $20 to add to it.
Thanks! I actually work at Walmart, but I wasn't aware of the Ozark Trail Multiforce. If my Walmart has one, I might buy it today. And since I'm an employee, I'll get a 10% discount!
@@maxlvledc OK. So I bought one at my Walmart today. Honestly, I'm a little disappointed. I already have a Bibury 21-in-1, and it only cost 23.99 thru Amazon, and the Bibury is a much better tool than the Multiforce, in my opinion. I just wish my Bibury had a pocket clip on the pouch, or on the tool itself, like the Multiforce.
And one other thing about the NexTool Flagship Pro, two things actually, that I love is the fact that it has a seatbelt cutter and ceramic ball glass breaker. I find them very useful and handy in emergency situations.
Thanks for another excellent review. I appreciate your thinking on this. Also really like the modification videos you made using the multiforce... really cool.
9:02 actually not everybody talk about that. But I saw a video where there was a comparison with an actual testing and hard using of HouHou (Xiaomi), Leatherman Wave +, and Daicamping DL12. What surprising is that the author got a bloody bruise in his hands after he clipped some nails with Leatherman Wave +, exactly like you pointed it out. So did the HouHou - again, bloody bruise. What's interesting though is that the DL12 didn't do that bruise neverthelees the design is similar.
The other 2 things to include for the multi force that I noticed was the extender and pocket clip being included where as with the wave+ you have to buy both separate
the best multitool ever is IMO the Leatherman Blast. perfect combination of tools and a smll sleak design compared to many others.... I never understood why they discontinued that one...
Yeah, people are snobby about the Zytel inserts I think even though they work and hold up fine in my experience. I have a Blast and never had a problem with it. Weight, size, tool load and simplicity of these stacks up just fine...locks were good, quality was good, price was good, smaller and lighter than the Core...not that the Core wasn't more hard Core...
For me it's the black knight from Nextool. Aside of a poor file which is more a nail file than anything else I do prefer it. I love it because of the amazing scissors, the bit driver which is magnetic and standard. The saw which is descent and the knife which isn't bad. However I'm not very happy with the sheath which is a bit fragile and the file even if I do like its pointy bit.
The Multi-Force bit driver is also compatible with the Leatherman bit set. I have the MF, the bit extender and 2 Leatherman bit sets in a large Leatherman nylon sheath. Thats a lot of capable tools on my belt that don't take up much space. The Multi-Force is a deal and a half.
We need a hard use test on them. I'm a maintenance at major manufacturing plant. If I set anything personally owned down, it walks off. I need something cheap I can hard use. Prying scraping, cutting tubing wire, and whatever else meets the jaws.
A Leatherman for $40 we can only dream of that in the UK. Even the Mirra costs more than that here. I found a Juice B2 (the half juice effort with 2 knife blades) for that price from one supplier, that's it. The Bolster hasn't arrived here yet but when it does I'd be surprised if it costs under $100.
@@DeconstructedWithJosh One handed opening is carry legal here, as long as it doesn't lock. But I'm planning to reprofile the blade on a Swisstool XC instead, we can get those for less than the price of a Wave here.
I remember buying an ozark multitool a while back from basspro and the metal of the pliers literally cracked from some light usage, could be just a hairline fracture in the metal casting that was missed but i was very disappointed by the experience
The biggest issues with off brands are the qc inconsistencies. Many have beaten the heck out of them with no issues..while others have it break on first use..it's frustrating
Been carrying Mutliforce modded to just one side, since last March, with a pouch of 1/4 inch bits, and a pair of pliers like Knipex or Southwire multifunction linemen will outperform my Gerber center-drive. As the center-drive couldn't keep up with bailing fencing wire, and it's pliers aren't sturdy enough for fine control. I am eagerly waiting for the dual-force.
I have a leathermen rev and I use it for random things. Dad things mostly but I have one for me and wife. As far as I use multi tools for other uses I love the gerber mp series and number one is because the pliers don’t folder in on themselves because they slide out even u dee stress of cutting which makes pliers stuck and not open.
Love the modularity\hackability of the Multiforce. That said, Walmart should commission a premium version for $10-20 extra and upgrade the warranty and file. They'd have a bigger hit.
I was recently looking for a cheap (but usable) multitool to keep in my car in case I ever need one, at first I picked up a Gerber suspension nxt for $24 and was extremely disappointed, it had many problems on top of it being uncomfortable to hold, so I decided to instead go with a bibury for 26. If the Leatherman bolster still existed I would have paid the extra $14 to pick one up, but don't think the multiforce is worth an extra $14 for a toss in the car tool.
thanks for the review, from the number of multitool you have and the honest review, I went ahead to the Ozark, and probably will follow by the black fire, thanks
I bought a Multiforce for a friend when he was interested in my Charge TTI and then saw a review of the Ozark Trail and how similar they are. That was about 6 months ago and he still carries that thing everywhere.
Great video. Been looking for something reliable but disposable/replaceable for sticking in my Wife and I's car emergency kits. Also it seems the Bolster is available on ebay as well. Also also can't wait for the GOAT tool to be my main squeeze!
The irony is that the 'selling point' of the Multiforce is why I didn't want it. And you even mentioned it "I've talked to a NUMBER OF PEOPLE who YEARS down the line have been able to get replacements" That's the irony - and precisely why I didn't want this. Lots of posts, lots of TH-cam comments of people saying, "This part broke. They helped me out." But it's in a tiny gap of time. This thing hasn't been out that long, and already a lot of people have broken parts. When you read between the lines it makes me think it's worse in every way to the real deal. That's not to say I won't buy it. I likely will. But more for a backup or out of curiosity. :D
I was totally shocked when I got my Multforce. While it has some serious shortcomings, such as the diamond file and the sheath, it's a perfectly acceptable alternative to the Wave. for about a third the price. The Wave+ is now about $100-$120. The Multiforce would be a great option for somebody just starting out with multitools or somebody who just wants a beater. The scissors are as good as anybody's, with the exception of those the Surge and most of the Victorinox knives.
Been carrying my bibury 19-1 that you had on the desk, for 2 months. Great tool at the $12 price we got it at. Would recommend it if ever goes back under $25-30.
Huohou K30 Pro (Xiaomi) looks the same as Ozark Trail Multiforce. Few differences: belt clip & carrying case. Couldn't find Ozark Trail here in Malaysia 🇲🇾
Nice review. I wish people would come to realize that the Leatherman bit set is a better then everyone gives it credit for. Here is the genius of the Leatherman bit set. It is a multi-tool it's value is in the versatility. Being able to carry 40 LM bits instead of 40 1/4 inch bits and a dedicated driver plus a multi-tool allows a person to carry them with our bringing the tool box
The Leatherman bits are also much worse than the majority of bits tradesmen depend on. The hardness of the Leatherman bits are spec'd specifically to fail before they strip the head of a screw..the problem with this...is that they are hard to replace..which doesn't make them ideal for individuals who use their tools every single day. No question that they are convenient..but they also DO NOT contain many of the common fastener types used by many trades.
I know people generally think the Leatherman Rev is not worth the price. However, I found a clip strip of 5 of them that must have gotten lost in Home Depot when they were being decommissioned. At $7 a piece I took all of them. The Rev pocket clips losen easily, otherwise, they are a great alternative to carrying a Victorinox, due to their relatively small size.
I have a wave and the multiforce, the pinching of the wave is a deal breaker . Also the break in of the wave takes forever. I use the multiforce everyday and love it, my only complaint is the file the diamond coating just doesn't last
Was thinking about picking this up tomorrow but also getting a bibury 31 and 1 but i was looking for a light tool with a pocket clip any other suitable suggestion 🤔 thanks joe
Thanks for the videos ! How about a Top 5 list of Bicycle multi tools of all time? Start off with the Gerber Cool Tool ... Topeak Alein ... Richey CPR 14 ... and others
I’ll just leave it here: I still have a Leatherman Tool from 1995 I carry daily. A multitool is one area you should buy name brand.. Leatherman or Victorinox that’s about it. These things get loose and are dangerous. I have had to help friends who only had one of these cheap ass ones that don’t work well. The Ozark Trail would be a good one to have in the kitchen on a camper, but I couldn’t EDC it.. thing is massive. Leatherman!! Any Leatherman
I love the black fire. It’s heavy duty for 27 bucks.I’ve been reluctant to get the booster because of reports of quality issues with Leatherman and products at that price point
I bought the Multiforce back in May per your recommendation. Recently, I tried to warranty it in store d/t the “spring” on the scissors slipping therefore not allowing the scissors to open again. I’ve tried more than once to warranty it in store but they keep giving me the run around. They told me to contact Ozark Trails to which the only number I was given or could find is the number to Walmart. When I call, it keeps saying they are closed. My question is, is there anything anywhere I can show them that states they can warranty the multi tool in store if it’s within the 5 year warranty? It seems like the Walmart reps I’ve talked to, don’t know how the Ozark Trail multi tool warranty works.
the ppl I know who were successful..were...lets just say...pushy. Walmart employees really don't want to deal with you. But...if you are persistent. They will get it done. Wish I could be more help.
@@maxlvledc Thank you! But after I posted the original message. I started fiddling around with the multi tool and noticed the scissors had too much play. I tighten the screws down and so far, it seems like I was able to fix the problem! 😅… I’m quite happy with the Multiforce. It’s my EDC. I do have a Leatherman Surge, but I only take that with me for special occasions. As to getting it warrantied. I will heed your advice whenever I need to warranty it lol… Thank you so much for the quality content you put out there! Will be waiting for the next video!
Great video! I would like to see a review on the Gerber Center Drive. Ive had one for three years as an industrial electrician so i know its amazing but would love to hear your thoughts.
Did you by chance review the Mossy Oak? Amazon $27 19-1 multi tool. Made very well, with some weight to it. I’ve had it for a few months and really like it.
Great overview. I totally agree with the Blackfire. That brings a lot to the table without a lot of fluff. I'm curious if you've picked up the Workpro Heavy Duty Multitool? At $20... seems like it brings a lot to the table.
A well presented segment mate. Think the Top 5 list would be a "walk in the park" mission for you. How about, I challenge you to take five low end multitool, even the ones just shown and turn them into Leatherman's competition.!? A mission indeed if you choose to accept it. Cowabunga.!
That backfire wire cutter, if used 12 or 10 Gauge will either break or your hand won't be able to squeeze hard enough. For cutting wire, a bypass cutter is much easier on your hand
@@maxlvledc when you do, are you sending me an Ozark trail for the idea? Not saying you should go all planet farm. But I'd love to see how long the mf stays sharp vs the wave and the charge. My guess is the Chinese steel will last about half as long as the wave and not even in the ballpark of a charge. The scissors, the wire cutters, the file. So many areas you could compare and see if they actually are comparable. See many people buy a multitool, carry a multitool, but never use a multitool. If you never have to sharpen the blade... You aren't doing much with it. If you don't have to replace the screw driver bits, if you never sent it in for warranty with 3 or more bent tools, are you really using it? Try the saws on ironwood or oak. There are real differences in the OT and the wave. I'd find them pretty quickly.
I just found your channel and I hate it! I can’t stop watching your videos and I have a lot of work I need to do. What great content. You are also costing me a lot of money as I’m finding great new EDC tools.
Edited for clarity. A lot of the stuff you talk about we can't get from outside of the US, at least in Australia. We can't get the bolster outside of US (even at costco Aust) or the multiforce. The Daicamping DL12 is the multiforce on Aliexpress (60) and the blackfire in Aust is $60. For me, the best cheap multitool is Daicamping DL6 $41 (clone of ATECH 13 in 1). Far superior scissors to the multiforce clone and addt bit kit that works well. Next would be the daicamping clone of (Bibury 21 in 1, MOSSY OAK Multi-tool or Wetools 21in1) - this one has far superior locking than the multiforce clone and a better blade - I got this for $40ish. AUD of course. BTW, I have the AliExprss versions as I can't get the others in Aust. BTW I'm talking about the clones - I'm assuming the name brands are very similar except for cosmetic diffs. The diamond coating on the multiforce clone is very very good and hasn't rubbed off yet
I wish I new more about availability outside the USA...it's really hard to know what is available. Thanks for the info! What the cheapest place for you guys to shop?? That will help me.
@@maxlvledc Yep, It's frustrating because I think they are missing a market. Especially when Amazon can handle shipping & dispatch for them. Probably AliExpress is cheaper but 40-50 days postage at worst. The blackfire we can get from Amaz au but it comes with a torch hence the $60. We can buy some stuff from Amaz us but many are unavailable. A cheap reasonable tool for Aus is maybe $40-50 AUD. We can get stuff for $20, but it's junk. BTW, that wasn't a shot at you, worded badly so I changed 1st line
I expected to see that here too. I guess I don't use the pliers much, but a great locking toolset and the driver that takes standard bits, sometimes I reach for it instead of my Surge or PowerAssist...
I have a ton of leatherman's, and I've never paid full price for a single one. I'm that guy that when he sees him on sale at home Depot will buy seven. Sure I get them out as gifts, but Leatherman tools are kind of like baseball cards. I have swapped and traded with many people. But by far the best part of them is the fact that almost all their parts are universal. So as long as it fits inside the show you can take the saw off, and put in a second knife blade. Really anything along those lines works.
Surprisingly no. In assuming your talking about the plier spring. No one mentioned it so far..only issue that stands out besides the file was broken scissor springs (very common in lots of multitools)

I genuinely NEEDED to see this...I've been researching multitools for several months. Now I'm off to WalMart...THANK YOU!
It's not perfect...but for $40....damn near impossible to beat.
Love the modularity\hackability of the Multiforce. That said, Walmart should commission a premium version for $10-20 extra and upgrade the warranty and file. They'd have a bigger hit.
Hmm, I think they would lose their primary buyer of they did that
@@maxlvledc If they kept the price
I have two waves and every time I go to Walmart I'm tempted to buy a multi force just for that bit driver
Turns out blackfire is owned by Klein!
For sure...still solid
I have a showcase full of these tools. Great video. Thanks.
I use the leatherman rev from time to time both at work and for non work use. It holds up and works great for the $39 it cost
Now $50...which is silly
Huohou K30 Pro (Xiaomi) looks the same as Ozark Trail Multiforce. Few differences: belt clip & carrying case.
Couldn't find Ozark Trail here in Malaysia 🇲🇾
I have never heard of the Bolster! Awesome picks! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Lucky I found some Multiforces on clearance a year ago for $8 each. I got ten lol make awesome gifts.
Whaaaaaaatttt!!!!
I want to add that blackfire just for the bit driver. Add it to my flissa wave. Lol
Blackfire appears to be discontinued, according to their website. Not available on Amazon.
The Blackfire is no longer available on Amazon. I guess your video caused them to sell out! :)
Yep. Did an updated video where I talked about it.
Thank you for the video, I've been looking for inexpensive muli-tool.
Hey bro I kept hearing you talk about the ozark multi force and picked 1 up on market place from a guy brand new for $ 20 he needed gas $$$ 😁😁😁
I have a wave and the multiforce, the pinching of the wave is a deal breaker . Also the break in of the wave takes forever. I use the multiforce everyday and love it, my only complaint is the file the diamond coating just doesn't last
Yep, seems to be a common problem
Is it possible to switch it out for a better file?
I sold my wave and bought a multi force for the same reason
Was thinking about picking this up tomorrow but also getting a bibury 31 and 1 but i was looking for a light tool with a pocket clip any other suitable suggestion 🤔 thanks joe
Yes, you have and i am so excited!!!
Thanks for the videos ! How about a Top 5 list of Bicycle multi tools of all time? Start off with the Gerber Cool Tool ... Topeak Alein ... Richey CPR 14 ... and others
About to do some edc screwdrivers, which are also for bikes.
If that blackfire had a normal 1/4 inch bit driver it'd be incredible
Finding a black fire at Walmart or Amazon seems impossible currently, I saw a Gerber dual that looked interesting but it was nearly $100
Darn.. the black fire multi-tool is discontinued on their website and Amazon. 😕
i've never heard of the bolster, i have a rev. that is so interesting
Please try the NexTool- Knight. I own 5 of them. My all-time fav. Its $21 and one handed.
$21 atm?!?!
It’s heavy duty for 27 bucks.I’ve been reluctant to get the booster because of reports of quality issues with Leatherman and products at that price point
surprisingly..the bolster is solid..if you have issues, exchange it directly with costco
@@maxlvledc I will take your word for it thank you. Do you have the cure for multi tool addiction outside of the fear of my wife.😂🤣
@@rickanthony5147 nothing is scarier than your wife 😬😬
Wish I could be more help.
actually...if its not broken I think I can help you fix it.. send me some picks at my email in the description.
Tell you what...I'll do a brief one in the Dual Force video..since I will be comparing it heavily
how strong is the belt clip on that Ozark trail? weak ,medium ,( or hopefully) strong🦉
Medium
Your channel is so informative so glad I subscribed please keep up your great work superb 👍😁
I try..I get things wrong from time to time..but if I can I attempt to correct it.
Did you by chance review the Mossy Oak? Amazon $27 19-1 multi tool. Made very well, with some weight to it. I’ve had it for a few months and really like it.
Which version?
@@maxlvledc Don’t know it’s silver and black. I saw it on a review that Project Farm did on multi tools.
@@jimkathleenboggio7172 if you can get me a link to a vid, that would be great thanks!

Great overview. I totally agree with the Blackfire. That brings a lot to the table without a lot of fluff.
I'm curious if you've picked up the Workpro Heavy Duty Multitool? At $20... seems like it brings a lot to the table.
Nope, quality is not good. And very heavy. There other other tools around 25 that are even better value....but still don't even come close to these 3.
@@maxlvledc At that price point, Blackfire it is. That's too bad, as the Workpro looks the part. Thanks again!
A well presented segment mate. Think the Top 5 list would be a "walk in the park" mission for you. How about, I challenge you to take five low end multitool, even the ones just shown and turn them into Leatherman's competition.!? A mission indeed if you choose to accept it. Cowabunga.!
Oh man..that would be a challenge!!
Top 5: belt sheaths? Bulky/slim/clip on-off/fastening/material/scout carry/kydex/metal 👍🏽 thanks for the video
Only found one good one so far...the Niteize universal holster
That backfire wire cutter, if used 12 or 10 Gauge will either break or your hand won't be able to squeeze hard enough. For cutting wire, a bypass cutter is much easier on your hand
Thanks for the info...now I want to see what they can do for real...
@@maxlvledc try it with stranded and solid wire vs a wave, surge, or charge
@@chrisnelson1935 I need to make a cable cutting gauntlet 🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@chrisnelson1935 hmmm, interesting proposal...I'm not saying no...need to think about it.
I recently purchase a used Leatherman Wave Gen 1, less than 35 dollars

@@anthonyahern1308 no offense taken!! I genuinely want to find a solution for everyone!
What about the Boker Specialist? Or is that not a thing over there?
The boker is a remake of a cheaper Chinese multitool

thx for the video! I just looked on walmart and the price for the multiforce is now $38.16 lol
It's always been about $37 ish. As long as it's under $45 still a great value
Any clue as to where I can buy a Blackfire Heavy-Duty Multi-Tool?
Discontinued
Your mentioning returning, I'm hearing breaking a lot. I don't hear reliability.
Which? Multiforce? It's been good for more ppl I've talked too so far. It's still only a $40 tool
You need to get some commission off thease you made me a believer in it and it amazing so far!!
Are you gonna be taking a look at the ruike tools again? They really seem to not get the love they deserve
They are awesome but super heavy for what they are...the ld42b looks about perfect but is 9oz without pliers.
Thank you for your research and I am a subscriber. 👊🏻
What about the Gerber Suspension NXT? I don't even see it.. I pick it up for $26 .
It's still solid..but seen plenty of plier issues.
@@maxlvledc I can agree with that! I have one, it's a little wide and a little play in the handels, but for value I am surprised with the tools.
I expected to see that here too. I guess I don't use the pliers much, but a great locking toolset and the driver that takes standard bits, sometimes I reach for it instead of my Surge or PowerAssist...
Are you giving any of those multiforces away?
Probably not, I'm always finding new ways to Mod them
What’s the name of the second tool you showed? The black one
All info in description 👍
I have a ton of leatherman's, and I've never paid full price for a single one. I'm that guy that when he sees him on sale at home Depot will buy seven.
Sure I get them out as gifts, but Leatherman tools are kind of like baseball cards. I have swapped and traded with many people. But by far the best part of them is the fact that almost all their parts are universal. So as long as it fits inside the show you can take the saw off, and put in a second knife blade. Really anything along those lines works.
1:43 for that money difference you can buy a great silky saw😂🤦♀️🤦♀️
What about Roxon?
Thank you for yet another great video 😊 👍 🇬🇧
Has the frame lock of the plier broken for any of you gentlemen as far as the Multi Force Multitool goes?
Surprisingly no. In assuming your talking about the plier spring. No one mentioned it so far..only issue that stands out besides the file was broken scissor springs (very common in lots of multitools)
@@maxlvledc Sorry, wrong Terminology, looking at a Leatherman Patent, I believe it’s called a plier stop
