Burning Stipa cernua--California native grass with flammable wax on stems

When converting flammable weed grasses back to fire-safe wildflowers and native grasses, could reduce California’s summer fire fuels by 98%. However, before converting large areas back to natives, you do do this burn-test to make sure you are selecting one which can burn worse than the flammables weeds you are trying to replace. This one square foot sample was burned to determine the length of burn, flame heights and temperatures produced, and it might be useful to replace this plant with another native with much less fire-power, like tidy tips.
