While I wish Kawasaki were still in MotoGP their departure was an understandable business decision. In the years since they left costs have continued to rise, and the series' technical restrictions grown tighter. I think the cost to benefit ratio is even more lopsided than when they left.
I believe youre right. Kawasaki is a relatively small motorcycle manufacturer, the smallest of the big 4 Japanese brands. But that has kinda allowed them to take a different approach from the rest and generally has resulted in distinctive motorcycles with innovative features, raw performance and something the others struggle to achieve, character. Whether or not that makes the best street bike or racing machine is debatable but what is undeniable is that Kawasaki builds excitement in a convenient twist grip dispenser. Ive always been a Kawasaki man since my first 1984 KX-80 which made my previous Yamaha YZ-80 and Honda CR-80 feel like a toys. Then came a couple of my '86 KX-125 "works replica" race bikes. Then on to the shoulder straining '88 KX-250 , a slew of street bikes from the '80s like my CSR-305, KZ-1100, super sharp GPZ-1100 and then i saw Scott Russell bust 167 mph down the back straight at Road Atlanta aboard the brand new, race bred and built '89 ZX-7R decked out in that beautifully bold lime green, white and blue diagonal striped paint job with those sexy ass aluminum snorkel intake tubes gleaming in the sun! So you KNOW i had to have a ZX-7R in '92 and another couple in '95 when i started racing superbikes. And now that ive retired from street riding, Kawasaki goes and builds the Z1000 naked superbike. Man, its keeping me up nights! Just as i thought i was finally mature and mellow enough to ride a Harley, they go and do THIS to me! Maybe im just supposed to live with my hair on fire all of my days. Idk. I do loves me a lime green Kawi, though!

Dam that sounds good! A lot like my spec '95 ZX-7R Muzzy Superbike i built and raced. Except my 7R would idle and hit a mean lumpy lick at 1,100 rpm. "BLAHP-blah-bluh-blahp-blahp..........BLAHP-blah-bluh-blahp-blahp!" That thing was NASTY! 147 bhp at 13,200 rpm with ram air assist (137 bhp stationary) with Keihin 40 mm flat slide carbs and running Nu-Tech special #4 race gas and factory prepped KHI ignition box. With the $100k Factory Kawasaki Superbike black box ignition unit it had to idle at 2,600 rpm and could scream to over 15,000 rpm and make another 20+ bhp BUT......only if you fancy an engine tear down and overhaul after EVERY race! I didnt. Spanked a bunch of Ducati's Suzuki's and Yamaha's with that bike. Ran it for 3 years with minor upgrades and specs, won a handful of times, podiumed a few more, almost always in the top 10. Built it myself in my home garage. A lot of countless late night hours and lots of blood, sweat and tears went into that thing. A lot of cash too but a fraction of the cost of the factory support bikes i raced against. This Kawi ZXRR GP bike sounds so similar it gave me goose bumps and a jolt of adrenaline.!
@@jakoidtonge - to answer either way, that lumpity lump idle was due mainly to the huge lumpy Muzzy Superbike cam shafts, very lightweight high compression JE pistons, titanium connecting rods and the titanium valves and valve train to match. The Muzzy airbox and intake teamed up to those big assed Keihin 40 mm flat slide carbs and full titanium racing exhaust gave it the huge volumes of fuel and air it needed and allowed it to breathe freely at high rpm. It also sounded like an F1 car and a Chris Craft offshore powerboat motor combined. It was nasty! All that combined and properly tuned made for a nasty lickity lumpity idling, fire breathing monster that pulled like a tractor from as low as 6,500 rpm, got the fires lit at 8,500, started pumping steam by 10,500 and kicked in the afterburners at 11,800 and kept them lit all the way to 13 200 rpm. The torque curve was fairly peaky up there but was obvious the motor had much more to give with more fuel and air and more rpm, hence the very expensive factory Kawi superbike black box ignition kit that pulled another 14 to 20 hp out of it. Unfortunately with that hp boost came a lot more internal friction, vibration and the parasitic losses from it as well as A LOT more maintenance demands. I only ran that ignition for 2 races. Top end power was impressive but it robbed me of mid-range torque partly because the cam timing had to be adjusted to boost top end performance. It only made sense to run that setup at Daytona, Pheonix and perhaps Road America and maybe Texas. I went back to my original configuration. But anyway, im not familiar with the Kawi 636. Ill dig into it and see if i can recommend certain tuning. You can build any motor to any performance level you like, its just a matter of money. Current motors are tuned pretty much to the edges of their performance envelopes. To make more power costs A LOT of money. But to tune for a specific sound or raucous idle should be reasonable. Ill hit you back if i can help.

But they are performing well in others Championships. Their main focus has been the World Superbike championship
I like how even the starter has a nice a exhaust
Hahah yes I look it back thanks to your comment, the starter got an akrapovic exhaust I’m dying
Now that's the sound of a true screamer. Kawasaki we need you back in motogp
I heard rumours that Kawaski still deciding to take wildcard so they could use their superbikes to comeback
They never will.
that's a big bang, not the kind of even fire i4 "screamer"
we have Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Ducati, Aprilia and KTM currently in motoGP. Now we need Kawasaki, BMW and MV AGUSTA and we are set people.
Too bad BMW said they don't give a damn about motoGP :'(
I REALLY HOPE SO
no kawasaki in motogp arsehole
Bmw and kawa are staying with wsbk and I'm pretty sure we won't see them in motogp
