LOVED this! Not only is Buzza a great friend and funny guy, but also just an absolutely brilliant mind. Would also like to see one with Dan as well to show him the ways 🙈😂
I love the real advice on this channel that actually helps. I've tried so many drills from videos and golf channel shows that never helped anything... Then I heard here that I need to learn to control the face and a couple of sessions figuring out how to do that shaved 10 strokes off my scores. Wish I could make it out for a muppet coaching session someday.
BUZZ-AH! This concept is exactly what happens when I drop a second ball after a bad shot and hit a GREAT next! “Trust the Force, Luke.” Seriously- a subconscious swing has less active mental input, ergo a more natural result. Explains range vs course disparity as well. Thanks y’all! Now, doing this on the course... 🤞
Great video. Good to see Buzza back. I have a fairly decent swing speed 116-118. I could probably max out to 120. My dispersion is not a lot different when I try and swing slower. Does my head in when I play with someone who doesn’t send it and they turn around and tell me to swing slower!! I now take and iron to find fairway or I’m going for it with a driver/3 Wood. This video sums me up pretty nicely so thank you.
Great to see Buzza again! You are all a little more grown up and civilized now, but I know that on the course pretty soon the old emotions will come out again, and the conflicted relationship with it!
Wow, Buzza comes back with the 🔥. Great data driven research, Steve. High concept thinking that applies across the board. Many times in golf instruction concepts don't necessarily relate as critical to the amateur golfer. A lot of solutions looking for the right problem. This kind of conclusion allows the golfer to take a stressor off our plate, and concentrate on things with higher impact. Good stuff!
Coach hits first shot with Buzzman and Parfield beside him..."Ooh that's right". lol It's like those 5 years never passed. Great to see you guys on the same vid again
I have a lot of experience helping / teaching golfers on my public range this year with exactly this topic. Background I'm an athlete played competitive tennis, ice hockey, soccer and then golf as a young when I started working - 20 years off with injury, came back mid last year, now a 5 handicap, fitted for clubs at TXG in Toronto watch all of Mark's videos - now practice a lot at the range, etc, etc. At my local range, lots of asians, also women, who somehow believe swinging slow and perfect is the way to learn. When I help people, what I tell them is I want them standing as athletically as possible and then I want them swinging as fast as possible - and then over the next 10 shots I tell them to swing faster and faster and faster. The way I look at it, and my experience tells me, that when you swing as fast as possible, your body parts start to line up - i.e. a bowling ball at the end of a string versus a pingpong ball at the end of a string. And you may as well start swinging as fast as you can and then dial you left and right control from there versus swing at 75% and not knowing if you are swinging at 80% or 70% and then with how that changes things trying to then dial in your left and right control (path, face to path etc). When I do this with people (I've done it 50++ times), it takes at most 15 shots until they are killing the ball basically straight way further than they ever have to the point of disbelief. Stand like and athlete, swing hard and then dial in your swing from there.
I was always a golfer who swung as hard as I could at the ball because that's what was fun to me. Even if I hit the ball off the planet, if I hit it really hard that made it alright. When I started to try and play the game to a standard my coach tried to slow my swing down for more accuracy. What I actually found was slowing my swing down helped me work on my mechanics and after I figured out how to swing the golf club I've started swinging harder and harder until I'm back almost up to where i was before, but I'm hitting the ball so much straighter and in turn getting more distance out of my shots.
love this study and totally agree with its findings, but I am jumping up and down to point out, for a fairway finder you should be using a 3 wood or a driving iron ( or even less depending on your confidence level). I don't hear the term steered used so much these days, but as soon as you feel you are steering you are doomed especially with a driver and its extra long shaft. Every time you pull out the driver you should be thinking about getting the max out of it- stokes gained. I play on a very windy golf course and the other very important dimension of driving is trajectory control- would love to hear your thoughts. Ie to get the maximum distance you have to control your trajectory
This has made my day. Permission granted by Dr. Buzzman to absolutely go at it from tee one. This weekend’s monthly medal is going to be an absolute hoot 👍
During my range sessions I now am trying to swing it harder and I'm not really seeing a loss in accuracy. Very interesting video and great to see Buzza.
When I first started golf , over 40 years ago as a 10 year old, the best player in our club at the time told me just to hit it hard! Learn how to hit the ball and direction will come, if you learn direcion first you will never get distance. He was right! Back then not all clubs had professionals attached, the nearest one to us was nearly 50 miles away, you had to listen to the good players around you!!
Loved this content, the amount of times I've tried to steer one down the middle and ended up steering it straight in the crap. Next time I stand on the first tee I'm gonna commit to it and rip it! Thanks guys 👍
Today I tried hitting LONG BALLS!! Normally at my driving range on a good strike i normally hit the back fence or have a bounce then hit the fence. Today I decided to take Buzza's advice of hitting the ball as hard as possible without the limitation of dispersion. I was shocked that I was clearing the fence but more surprising was the fact that out of 10 balls 1 was a slice, 1 was a miss-hit but the other 8 were all hitting my fairway that I had set for myself. Wether I can do this on the course with the pressure of being in a game is another thing but it definitely worked for me at the range. Thanks Mark/Buzza 👍🏾😁
I had a gapping session last week and the pro told me to go after a couple of 3 woods.Carry jumped 25 yards 1 off the planet and 1 on the "fairway".You're absolutely right its confidence I can hit it further and faster but don't feel confident enough I can keep it on the planet and it was the same story right through my bag
Young golfers seem to get this lesson more naturally. The sad news is that some club instructors don't test things shown in this video and tell them to slow down and swing softer even when sequencing is good. For myself, all I did growing up was try to hit my driver on the range as far as I could while keeping my balance. I played my best golf then, especially as local courses don't have monster holes, I could be on the green in 1 or 2 shots. Consequently playing less shots per round. These results fit my findings. Because I don't practice as much as I did as I've gotten older I'm trying to slow down my swing with the driver to find more fairways. I don't play as well doing this and also I don't actually find as many fairways. Only caveat I would say (just my findings) is dont do this for shorter irons, always practice 8 iron to wedges playing a 3/4 hold off shots for accuracy. I guess this then becomes complicated for many (myself included) as were working with 2 different swings in a way. Morale is... practice these techniques more... you can't expect to play better without putting in the time. Great video guys, much love!
Mark golf myth buster Crossfield. This is a very interesting topic. I go at one speed. I am one of those people that swings fairly hard with a extra gear. There is not a big difference between them. I have actually learned to used that extra gear more often. Usually very effective.
I always enjoy your tuition and the clarity you guys bring, I was a pattern of the ball short but accurate, through your vlogs etc I realised that distance was not coming from different clubs etc as there is always usually a loss in a different area, I knew I could get the odd ball flying 30-40 yards further. I have worked on my swing in my shed and workshop, and also on the range and have been losing weight too, my swing I have worked on being quicker as a whole movement and using more traditional lofts in some p770 irons have found a degree of consistency and distance, I am now going to get a gap test done to see the difference and a check up on the clubs I am using, I feel I strike the ball well but also better with the smaller head than with my ping g410 irons but do get a better stopping distance after hitting my number, I find it easier to work on carry distance as I don’t have to rely on a good bounce to come good on the greens. I am getting into a practice routine and love the 5 ball ideas, I also play 9 hole practice rounds of solo golf so will use 5 shots from tee fairway and rough in the same way. Still struggling with Driver but really nailing my 3 and 5 woods so hopefully in time I can get that element right. Needing to work more on little pitching shots around the greens but I now play so different and making the same point you have to feel hot sweaty and pushed after a practice game or range session to help build stamina for the game. I still wait for your vlogs daily it makes my day to see what’s up each day. Keep up the good work Muppets,
I’ve heard some of the top players say at a young age they just tried to hit it far. I think Nicklaus gave that advice as well because it’s hard to teach swing speed the older you get.
Like it. Buzzas insights great. I think an important point is when people say ‘that was a bit fast’ they more often mean the tempo was too quick vice club speed. Like they snatched down at the ball rather than a smooth and controlled transition from back swing to down swing.
I used the fireball idea this morning in the practice range. Hit different coloured balls so I would be sure. Found it very enlightening same results as Matt , better going for it at least 20 yards improvement. One or two off line but no major difference to the slower swing. Great video keep em coming! Need to remember fireballs again for next practice
Absolute perfect timing for me. I’ve been battling with should I be trying to hit more fairways or is distance where I really want to be. Today I went out and unleashed the driver. The results were really good, I’ve been working on my short game lately so any miss I had today the recovery was fine. Also being 20-30 metres closer makes life a lot easier
Oh man I love love love this vid. Great timing with it too. I just recently had my first "real lesson" off a guy here in eastern Pennsylvania. Turns out he got me with a pretty minor grip adjustment and impact/follow through drill.. immediate improvements on the course. Now with winter on it's way I want to start adding speed since I'm in a better place with my swing. Driver speed like 100-102. I just started with the speed sticks and I came up with my own idea of basically swinging like happy Gilmore with foam practice balls for 3-5 shots .. (fire balls) lol I'll let ya know in about a month if I gained some speed !!! 🤞
Like this approach to getting more distance very much. Been paying attention to accuracy by sacrificing swing speed, but so want more distance. Great video Mark!
Started sending my driver today on my 5th golf comp. Was very nervous through my first 4 comps. I found if i swing it that bit harder everything went straight then way right , but was focusing on squareness of face at address too
Saw Buzza's video about hitting the driver harder and I now use a few balls on the range to hit at maximum speed. I try this during casual rounds and often slice big, but I am noticing an improving and occasionally hit straight bombs. I'm a big fan of this and will persevere. I don't see it as hitting harder, but I do see it as hitting faster and I get the best strikes by starting the downswing slowly and then accelerating as fast as I can through impact. This keeps the sequence as it should be.
Nice to see the Buzzman back on te channel, been too long. I do envy my younger self these days. I may have only just turned 41 but my hands and hips are being eaten by Arthritis already which means that I can only swing as hard as the pain allows. Some days I walk onto the course feeling as good as I can feel and I'll "let rip" but on others my body refuses to do what I want it to and it all goes to pot.
I’ve definitely done this! On the range I just tried hitting driver as far as I could really opening the taps then it start to bleed in to on course play with better control of face path and strike. I’ve had comments saying that I’m definitely hitting it further!
By far one of the best vids ever! Super. Impressive study, who would have thought going top speed would be so beneficial even to find fairways. A ma zing thks!
Great video, with interesting conclusion. The problem is that for those of us who don't have perfect swings it all goes pear shaped when we try to hit the ball hard. For me a smooth swing, that feels gentle, carries the ball 220 to 240. When I try for maximum distance I end up with a 50 yard slice. Can't wait to try this out on the range. I will persevere.
great video lads - like the analogy of going to the gym and uping your weight and therefore go to range and try and up your speed Has Lester been painting down there looks brighter and hope theres a Buzza vlog coming soon
Hitting it harder is much better for me. Some crazy shots come out when I try to ‘slow down’ and ease it straight, as the faults in my swings become even more exaggerated and the bad shot that results from the faults becomes even worse
Very interesting and empirical evidence supports this idea (I use Arccos so it's backed up to a certain extent). My best driving is when there is no pressure on it and I can go after it. When playing scrambles my drives are consistently longer and generally straighter. It's transfering that confidence to the first tee at the monthly medal that is key.
great video, great to see the gang back together. My driver is the best club in the bag, I hit a lot of fairways, but if I try and smash it goes off the planet, If I can hit it harder and keep it on the short stuff then I'll be happy. I dont want to go anywhere near the rough though - it's just thick and heavy on the courses I play
Took it to the course last night. Wow. There is definitely something to it. Hitting bomb balls last night. Even into the wind going as far if not further than I would normally put one down some fairways. Still managed to get a couple of wild ones, but that's my delivery being off. It is funny as we had this discussion in our playing group a few weeks ago, and a couple of us felt like we swung better swinging harder with better ball flight results. Cheers all.
Big balls! Love it. My mindset has always been nice and easy however there seems to be much, much more to gain with giving it 'some'. Can't wait to try it out.
I’m so conflicted by this video! I find I play my best golf when I am trying to play boring golf, you have talked about it in the past, pat, pat, chip/putt, putt = par. But all the strokes gained and this video show that whacking it is better in the long run. I will have to do some experimenting...
Yesss I love this guys 👌. I am a young coach myself and it has to be the most popular line from students “If I could just slow down”.... Awesome stuff guys from Aus 👌⛳️
Great video and great weight training analogy. Really worked on speed, but then have eased off due to strike. Still trying to build, just more controlled. Like the 5 balls out approach! Will try on track man.
had a driver test at a shop last year... the promo guy saw my first ten shots and said "I believe you can go faster than that, gimme all you got", increased swingspeed about 5-8 mph AND increased accuracy by more than 50%... my mind was blown... (Titleist promo guy BTW :-P)
I am a decent driver of the ball in terms of distance but prob only average about 33-40% fairways, yet via game golf style trackers my strokes gained off the tee compared to scratch is usually almost 0 or slightly positive. I've known for a while via that figure that it seems I'm better off continuing to try and give the ball a good ride off the tee rather than aiming one but this just confirms those thoughts. Cheers boys, great vid and entertaining to boot
Interesting concept, When I have a tight fairway that I must hit, I don't change swing speed, I just drop down a club. Shorter club being closer to you usually helps with accuracy. Would have been nice to have coach go at it hard with driver and normal swing with 3 wood for fairway finder and then compare accuracy. Good stuff as usual.
This is really interesting. In winter at my home course, 12th hole 300 yd par 4 slight dog-leg left, with water 100 yds in front of green, I've developed a chippy drive that consistently gives me a short shot in. I never try to use it on any other hole.
an element of this is how you generate speed - for all his right balls CL has great swing dynamics / biomechanics - he drives hard with his legs and harder to hit in harder. Most amateurs equate club head speed with arm speed and trying to hit harder swing harder with the arms and so damage their sequence and lose strike and speed!
I think that often short hitters try to speed up by throwing their bodies at the ball, which leads to all sorts of mishits. So they go back to slower. It helped me to think that speeding up my swing was about speeding up my club head. Strangely this makes me feel that I am slowing down everything else. So for many short hitters (certainly me) it’s about focussing on club head speed through impact and not ‘swing speed’.
Great to see Buzza back. Top man.
Great work with Buzza. When you guys team up the content steps up another gear. He really makes the conversation move in different areas.
LOVED this! Not only is Buzza a great friend and funny guy, but also just an absolutely brilliant mind. Would also like to see one with Dan as well to show him the ways 🙈😂

Great to see the Buzzman back-please tell me there's a vlog coming- back to the old school :)) those videos and banter were brilliant
They recorded one at Dartmouth yesterday
Did Buzza get another eagle 🦅😂
He’s a lovely boy
Probably the smartest video I've ever seen...

Great content Mark..........thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the course vlog with the Buzzman!
Great to see buzza back!!
Wow, Buzza comes back with the 🔥. Great data driven research, Steve. High concept thinking that applies across the board. Man, having Buzza back was so awesome!!!!! This video was absolutely outstanding
Yah return of the Buzza and what great work/data/results and findings....
Coach hits first shot with Buzzman and Parfield beside him..."Ooh that's right". lol
It's like those 5 years never passed. Great to see you guys on the same vid again
I tend to hold back to try to hit fairway. Well today Buzza I'm going to launch it and see very interesting content.
So good to see (hear) Steve Buzza again.
Great to see buzz back. Had some lessons with him a few years ago now. Lovely man
Great to see @buzzman back!! Looking forward to the Vlog

Challenging perceptions again and backing it up with numbers, very few people doing this. Great to see the Buzzman too.

That gym analogy was a perfect explanation of this idea. Great video boys!
Yes buzzer, good to see you. Really enjoyed this vid guys. Tomorrow at the range I'm going for the power shot bomb ball locky style.
Buzzman!!! Welcome back bruh!!!
Buzza in da House!
I will persevere.
working on hitting it further right now. hence the previous question about controlling face and missing it right. def working.
BUZZMAN!!! Good to see you with the boys again
great video lads - like the analogy of going to the gym and uping your weight and therefore go to range and try and up your speed
Has Lester been painting down there looks brighter
and hope theres a Buzza vlog coming soon
Hitting it harder is much better for me. Some crazy shots come out when I try to ‘slow down’ and ease it straight, as the faults in my swings become even more exaggerated and the bad shot that results from the faults becomes even worse
Sweet can't wait to break my back this weekend. Thanks Mark
Buzzman is back!!!! 😁😁😁
I ‘d like to see Dan do this also. Will he gain with power?
Buzzman!!!! Yes !!!!
I’m so conflicted by this video! I find I play my best golf when I am trying to play boring golf, you have talked about it in the past, pat, pat, chip/putt, putt = par. But all the strokes gained and this video show that whacking it is better in the long run. I will have to do some experimenting...
Can't wait to see the course vlogs with the buzz man. #buzzmanindahouse
Yesss I love this guys 👌. I am a young coach myself and it has to be the most popular line from students “If I could just slow down”.... Awesome stuff guys from Aus 👌⛳️
Can't wait to see the course vlog after this test was done. #getupdan #lockeylongballs #knuckleball #bombballs
When my pro told me to smash the driver, that was the key to unlock straighter ball flight too. Great to see data to follow up it
Got to listen to Dr Buzza 👍🏻👍🏻
I am a decent driver of the ball in terms of distance but prob only average about 33-40% fairways, yet via game golf style trackers my strokes gained off the tee compared to scratch is usually almost 0 or slightly positive. I've known for a while via that figure that it seems I'm better off continuing to try and give the ball a good ride off the tee rather than aiming one but this just confirms those thoughts. Cheers boys, great vid and entertaining to boot
"Not only with us two taking part, but also with a number of *good* golfers..." lol! Humility is a virtue :D
Locky Long Balls 👀 very interesting and something I'll introduce to my practice
