2007 Audi Q7 MMI turning on and off/not working problem solved.

  • 2007 Audi Q7 MMI suddenly turning on and off eventually not turning on at all, MMI will be running in the background draining battery in one or two days. At first thought it was MMI board and order one from eBay for 36 dollars, installed back and not working still, then checked bose amplifier for water damage but looked intact, so moved to satélite Sirius radio and that was the culprit. It took me a couple of months to find the problem but at the end only spent $36 to find it. If you have any questions let me know I’ll be happy to help. If you ask me try to get the fiber optic loop and check the Bose amplifier first then move to Sirius satélite radio and the last one is a receiver. Disconnect the optic fiber and replace it with loop and turn on radio and see what happens. Good luck 🍀

    Question please.
    Will display turn on if the amplifier had water damage? AsuAmp is dammaged.
    Also when connecting the amp are the only 2 cables connected and the third plug is left open? So main purple one and optics cable.
    I am missing the Sirus box so is this ok or do I need to find one to make things work?

    Thanks for sharing, We need people like you to diagnose that kind of issue, instead of going to Audi that charges over $3000 to replace the whole module. I'm having this issue a 2nd time, from leaving the roof open when it rained. Do you suggest buying the loop and/or a circuit board? Please let me know. Tx

    • @spintheboost8888
      @spintheboost8888  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nathalie Walker: Your case is tricky!! You could try the loop to test wich module got water damaged, or maybe it blew a fuse somewhere before frying any of the modules. You may get lucky and your Bose amplifier is still salvageable. But to answer your question yes I would order a loop and unplug everything and connect back up and test one module at a time.
      I have this same answer in the other comments and I hope one of the other ppl I answered to could give us an update and give us good news!!

      When I stripped down the mmi unit after removing from the center, I found that the black rubber over lay was missing, that covers the printed circuit board(PCB).
      I also cleaned all the buttons and dials as best as I could. Believe previous owner had replaced PCB for another which
      1) did not correspond to the button setup ( mine basic 2G/ 4 button) cpb was for 6 button
      2) previous owner forgot to put back /replace rubber overlay to help with fiberoptics controls.
      Purchased new black rubber overlay from Poland, ICS I think they were called.
      Has been working well ever since.

    How do I get out to be amplifier out to inspect it? Any specific tools I need? Have the same MMI turning off and on issue… tried replacing Mmi control panel but no luck… any help would be great. Also how do I get all that paneling in the back off to access the amplifier and sirus Xm components???

    • @spintheboost8888
      @spintheboost8888  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Elizabeth fox Is pretty straight forward all you need is a set of T bits they are called Torx bits get a set that has number T5 through T40 although I think you only use T25 and T30 if I remember correctly also have handy a set of metric sockets from 8mm to 19mm just in case. A flat and Philips screw drivers and a trim removal tool. Also a little strength to pull off the right side panel from the trunk quarter panel.
      You are going to fold both back row seats to have space to work around and for panel to pull off. Once you take the panel off you will see the Bose amplifier right away and take it off the plate by removing the torx bolts. Or better yet remove the plate with the amplifier cause is easier to remove the amplifier off the plate once the plate is out with the amplifier together since is tricky to get to a few bolts on the plate while is still attached to the car.

    +Spin the boost my stereo system won't turn on No power my battery was draining so the shop found that my Sirius xm in the rear trunk was causing my battery to drain so they unplugged one power connection it did help stop from draining my battery but now I get no power to my MMI system my mmi was working before they disconnected it so I plugged in back the Sirius xm but still nothing I ordered a new circuit board so am going to see if that will fix my issue
    if it doesn't should I try to plug in a loop to the connector wire for the Sirius xm.. ?

    • @spintheboost8888
      @spintheboost8888  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ Jet knight: two things, as I mentioned in the video my Sirius xm receiver was the problem. I personally didn’t want to replace it cause I don’t use Sirius radio so I plugged in a loop instead to complete the loop so the whole system would work except the Sirius xm.
      My car was draining the battery also because the radio is trying to turn on in the background or at least complete the loop cycle to turn everything off but since the loop is broken somewhere (in my case and your case the Sirius receiver) it keeps thinking and thinking therefore using the battery in the background and eventually in 2 days you won’t have power to turn your car on!!!
      There are two brown 5 amp fuses for the MMI on the passenger dash fuse box. If you pull those two fuses out will prevent from draining your battery but you won’t have any power on your MMI so I think that’s missing and that’s why you don’t have any power now.
      Check those two fuses if they aren’t there you have to get them back in but unless you have the Sirius receiver replaced or the loop, your battery will start draining again.
      So, check the fuses, then connect the power supply to your existing Sirius receiver and don’t plug in the optical cables into the receiver but instead into a loop and you should be good to go.
      You don’t need a new MMI board if the shop “diagnosed a bad Sirius receiver”
      And you don’t have power cause they removed the two brown 5 amp fuses.
      I hope this is clear and helps you with your problem and can enjoy your system again!!

      @@spintheboost8888 thanks for asking, honestly saying this car has turned into a headache, it's AC isn't working, I had changed the complete system 6 months ago and it again needed a compressor Changed, right now I don't have sufficient funds for a compressor change for that reason I bought a small hatchback Peugeot 307 great small car by the way
      I use the Audi rarely now but I take it to drives one or two days in a week,
      Mmi still doesn't works I am tired of troubleshooting it (if you can provide some Help personally it would be a great relief)
      Umm, after that some suspension problem started first it was the front which was completely down, I went to mechanic he said some minor fault he fixed it for free, after 2 weeks it dropped again and after a day it straight away went up, but not to normal height, whenever I drive it's really bumpy and not fine
      All in all to say this car is a headache
      (Pls help regarding mmi if possible)

      @umar sheikh. I don’t follow.
      If you are talking about the fuses on the passenger on the side of the dash? I did and they checked ok. that’s why the Q7 will drain your battery cause it will constantly try to turn on the MMI all the time until you fix the problem.

      I ordered it from eBay
      Just type In MMI circuit board. Select your car and whichever one is a match should work for your car. If you are talking about the loop I got it off a Q7 at the junk yard. But you can get one also on eBay, type in Audi Q7 optic fiber loop. Good luck
      The board was $34 and the loop is about $20

      @@spintheboost8888 i replaced the board and screen only turns on when i reset the mmi. It only stays on for about 10 sec. None of the led lights are on. Does that mean that I'm going to have to try the loop?

      That’s exactly what happened to me. Let’s hope the loop will work for you too.
      Try this before you order your loop. Remove the bose amplifier, since you have it out just visually inspect it, since the bose amplifier sits on that metal plate you have to disconnect the Sirius satellite receiver. Once they are both disconnected give it a few minutes and plug the bose amp and the Sirius receiver back up without securing any bolts and try to turn it on. If that works you can see how long it will work for but eventually you have to either get a new Sirius receiver or cheaper option is the loop.

    Poor design. Having a control unit/PCB with many buttons mounted on a horizontal just waiting for something to be spilled on it. There's a reason that most head units or controls in vehicles are mounted vertically.

      Thanks for this video, I also have an Audi Q7 with the same issue. I saw an optic fiber loop online that looks like that one in the video, Is it a standard loop or is there a certain module that I need to look for? Thanks for your video. I did have a similar issue 5 years ago but it was because the amps got soaked from the clogged pano roof drains being clogged. But this time the Sirius radio was having issues and couldn’t be rebooted by the dealer, and the mmi does come on then goes off just like in your video, when the amps got wet before, there was no power at all.
