  • It is day 2 of prepping for #gridlife and Tiffany Kelly had her j swapped s2000 on the dyno . We work super hard to find a wild problem. So it’s a super fascinating issue. One pull we can make good power the next we will lose 50hp! Suddenly and then just as simply it’ll come right back. Join us and learn how to deal with a wild issue.

What a Challenge!! Super fun to try and solve! I absolutely love working with Tiff and Justin, spit balling ideas and showing how it all works and comes together is the best. Us as men naturally love spit balling and working through the issues, I love to learn and see new things gives us all such valuable lessons you don’t get in a classroom. This was def one of those videos and I’m super stoked to bring you this lesson. If your ever stuck this may be a good one to remember. Air fuel fire and the flow always makes you go! Thank you guys! Sometimes there's a guy that will mention every problem on the car, sometimes it helps find the solution and sometimes it hurts and just slows everything down, Brent's and Jamie's vast knowledge and patience also helps teach, just like when owner relearned that O2 corrections are always happening right after he said fuel flow should never change vtec or not, he was stuck on a fuel problem and while it was possibly part of the problem w/ gunk in the filter it wasn't "the" problem, so he was closed off to that where Brent was open to finding the air flow actual problem. What most people forget, or were ignorant of, is that "fuel pressure" is a measurement of resistance to flow, and it will vary with fuel flow through the pressurised lines as restrictions need to have the fuel forced through them, and fuel is removed upstream.
Under light fuel demand, when most of the fuel is passing through the regulator, the pressure AT the regulator can be significantly lower than at the pump, because of the restrictions in the fuel system.
When you add in the bleeding off of the fuel when demand is high, this will add to the difference in pressure across/along the fuel line(s).
Some fuel systems are also prone to developing pressure waves, AKA standing pressure waves, within the fuel system - if the fuelling map shows some odd variations between cylinders at different rpm, it could be caused by pressure fluctuations on the air side, but could also be on the fuel side.
For these reasons, especially with relatively high flow, it's a good idea to use generously sized fuel lines and fitting, preferably with a damper/accumulator incorporated to dampen pressure spikes. It may also be worth monitoring the fuel pressures at both the inlet and outlet of the fuel rail(s).

My dad had spare valve covers with tops cut off, with inner tube, screwed on it. so he could watch valves with engine running without getting oil everywhere. with Vtech, that might be good thing to have.

We just dyno tuned a j32a2 swaped eg. Had the same issue where it would make power then the next pull it would be way down. Ended up being the throttle body being stuck at about 80 percent. Soon as we noticed it picked back up. Also vss wasn't working so vtec was not engaging.

I saw who's car it was, skipped along to see if it changed, then stopped the video. Not sure why, but not enjoyed any of the content this guy is in. PFI guys have a slick way of working through issues, this bloke seems to enjoy throwing a broken spanner in that.

I would determine accurately what the oil level would be if your talking a factory stick half quart down is good. I wouldn’t send an oil change out like that because it burns so much oil in between when most people extend past recommended interval. Oil level is critical on this style car… I recommend oil accumulator for cars going through long sweeper. Understand I’m not saying more oil is bad just more oil than the proper level is highly critical.

Wow, Justin was extra abrasive this time out, he even made Tiffany take the blame for the engine build after all the issues. That was hard for me to watch, all I can say is that Jamie and Brent are true professionals and respect their customers. I get it, when you are competing and become part of the cars your driving, there is a level of intensity to yourself, there's a connected feeling to the device, and this certainty you feel because of that connection. I think this is one of those times that the intensity caused a backfire and only multiplied the issues and extended the time it took to resolve the issues. In this video, I felt like I had fallen off a bike and been sliding on asphalt the whole video, with some stones here and there to add some bounce to my slide, and by the time we made it to the end of the video, the shameless plug was like rolling thru gravel.
