A man wants to know what the major factors are, apart from aging, that lead to loosening of skin under the eyes and puffiness. He also wants to know if stress alone can cause this, or if it is the combination of that with genetics and aging.

My eyes are puffy every morning, so puffy I can see the swelling in my peripheral on bad days. The swelling goes down throughout the day, but now that I’m 40 the puffiness never goes away completely.

Sorry to hear about your problem. If the swelling goes down throughout the day, but never completely goes away, it is possible that you have a combination of an allergy, and lower eyelid fat prolapse. You do need to have a proper diagnosis, as well as have the allergy managed before treatment can be considered. I hope this clarifies things for you.
@@AmiyaPrasadMD Thank you for your response. I do have allergy symptoms, my eyes are often red and itchy/gritty feeling. I tend to only take allergy pills when symptoms are severe but I will start taking them daily and see if the puffiness improves as well. Thank you 🙏

Thank you for the info . My eye bags seemed to come on after crying a lot over losing a loved one back in June . The eye bags were huge at the time after I cried and it took almost a month for them to go down enough for me to not be embarrassed when people looked at me . But now I have permanent eye bags that haven’t ever gone away since the crying. My husband even commented on them and he compliments me nonstop. Can fluid become permanently trapped in the eye area ? I have a lower eye bag and my upper eyelids are also puffy . When I press the lower eye bag , I can see the upper eyelid puff even more . I’ve even gone to a plastic surgeon for a consultation. He recommended a brow lift and upper/lower blepharoplasty. I can’t afford that . What would be the next best thing to tighten the skin under the eyes and the eyelids too. I feel so ugly . My eyes look so tiny now . I’m 46 . I truly think some of it is trapped fluid that never went away after the hard crying .

Sorry to hear about what you've been through. Fluid doesn't remain in the lower eyelids and become permanent, so it's likely prolapsed orbital fat causing this appearance. Lower blepharoplasty is likely the best option for the puffiness, but I would also have to examine your eyelids to make a proper diagnosis, before recommending a specific treatment. Slight cases of eye bags can be treated non-surgically with filler. Skin treatments can't usually treat eye bags. You can refer to these more recent videos about it:

I have been using minoxidil and definitely notice hollowness under the eyes within 2-3 years of use.

Impressed with your knowledge/experience. Must take exception to one thing you said. Maybe I am unusual but I think not. When I look at a person I not only look at the triangle but the entire face. Temporary puffiness under the eyes can be caused by fatigue, allergies, salt intake, sinus issues, or other causes, so it's important to have the cause diagnosed. I only treat eye bags that are visible all the time because they are caused by prolapsed orbital fat. Doctor , my mother is having swelling under eyes . More at left eye and after sleep it increases under both the eyes .
Blood sample shows increased uric acid . But legs and hands have no swelling .

You need to have your mother properly diagnosed with a physical examination by a doctor. As oculoplastic surgeon, and facial cosmetic surgeon, I only treat eye bags that are visible all the time because they are caused by prolapsed orbital fat, so I operate to sculpt the fat, and remove them. If your eye bags are intermittent, these are not caused by orbital fat, and will need treatment by your doctor as I have not diagnosed the cause in a physical examination, so I don't know the cause of them. There are several possible causes of puffiness under the eyes, with stress or depression not direct causes, but their physical manifestations can cause temporary puffiness due to lack of sleep.
