Apart from the turning into a panda thing, this was so similar to my middle school experience! Seeing a bold tween girl find herself in Toronto, navigating a complicated relationship with my overprotective immigrant mother. This film made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Benji's comment about crushing on cartoon characters when you're a kid, reminded me of how much I loved the 1973 cartoon of Robin Hood, that was one suave fox!

Yay! I loved this movie so much! Originally watched it because of Sandra Oh (a God) but found myself rewatching it several times with just as much impact. I really related to the mother-daughter dynamic in this movie as well as a lot of the struggles Mei was going through. That one scene where she talks about how excited she is about her new feather duster and her friends meet her with utter confusion --- felt that SO MUCH! And her need to gain independence as she matures was SUPER relatable, not only to me but to ALL of my siblings who watched with me. So glad you two are reacting to it because I LOVE YOUR COMMENTARIES SO MUCH and am so excited to see your take! 😊

One of the things I really loved about this movie is that the resolution was a balance between the need to recognize an individual’s sense of self while still respecting cultural values, when the pendulum could have very easily swung to “this cultural thing is bad, period.” Loved this video so much! Your full-body cringe reactions to certain scenes were extremely similar to mine, so so so funny
I loved this movie, this was such a throwback for me. While I don’t relate on the aspects of the perfectionism from an Asian standpoint I can relate to Mai being a black oldest daughter where there is a lot of pressure to be the best because your siblings look up to you. Omg, I can't even imagine. Soul was amazing but it didn't really hit the generational trauma aspect. As much as I love Pixar, I'm not sure even they could confront that kind of trauma in animated form.

movies about an eastern asian mother and daughter in the west make me cry so hard. its such a specific dynamic and their relationship was so well done and true to life you can really tell this came from a personal place. seeing my life on the screen like this as a kid would have been life changing and helped me understand my mother a lot. i'm so glad kids have this.
The clips from Rugrats about “responsibilities “ and all the clips of the people saying boy had me rolling so much 😂. Omg now gene saying she’s thirsty bish. I’m done. Also what’s up with the cute little bish in the background. Introduce the doggie 🐶 🥺
i love how they show these topics about women and girls, i not a negative way, but a way to grow on. i grew up thinking that periods and emotions were a horrible thing to have and that i’d get made fun of, but they aren’t. i rlly enjoy how they normalize it in this movie bc it should have been ages ago. bc growing up, i always thought that being vulnerable and emotional were signs of weakness, and even the boys who i grew up with were taught to never cry or show emotion bc is was a sign of weakness, but we soon learned that it can actually be a strength and to not be ashamed of it. i love how they represent it in this movie and this is one of my favorite Pixar movies!
2:15 NO! STOP! EEEEE no wayyyyyy! I had a crush on Danny Phantom too! (When I was in middle school, anyway. That was over 7 years ago, though. I would wake up a half hour before my parents thought I did, so I could watch an episode on Hulu from my phone in my bed before getting ready for school. I did this every weekday until I got to the finale.)
As a colombian, I agree SO MUCH, I like Encanto but this was my favorite out of the two. It has so much more heart put into it, especially as a 2001 baby, and from a latino family that often put the same pressures as some east asian families, this one was so much more impactful to me
As a 90's kid I feel for Tyler. I knew the pain of having to listen to Boy Bands in secret and being too scared to share your fandom with other fans because you thought you weren't supposed to like them *because you're a boy*

Idk I think turning red and Encanto shouldn't be compared. They are both super important in different ways, one about coming of age/puberty and the other about generational trauma and the trauma of being the outcast child. I feel like neither is better then the other because they're both so important in different ways. Edit: Obviously turning red also features generational trauma too but I was more on about how in encanto it's kind of the central conflict yk Also I love how Priya is voiced by Devi's actress from never have I ever

I was 10-ish, freaked out and out it in the big blue American mail box.. I heard that high pitched ring for weeks everytime I walked by. sorry to everyone who's mail was delayed.
tbh i think that last thing you mentioned has always been my issue with these generational trauma movies -- never getting your own closure with your family sucks. i obviously get this is a kids movie and i'd love kids and parents to get the message that ! generational trauma exists ! and apologizing, forgetting and growing is a thing ! but also, bitterness and anger is still present and lots of people like me just don't get that type of family, so that's sad. anyways, i love these optimistic views about familiar issues :,) they make me hope newer parents and kiddos are having better lived than a lot of us did, with better representation of their struggles in their favorite characters. such a sweet movie, honestly
Love this movie and loved your reaction! I see your Turning Red, and I raise you Everything Everywhere All At Once! OMG, I love Turning Red! I believe Turning Red is the first Disney/Pixar movie that focuses on adolescence, puberty, and even periods. Periods are still stigmatized today, and it's sad. I liked Turning Red because I have never seen ANY kids' content where they normalize menstruation, let alone talk about it. The first kids' film to feature sanitary products! I was so glad to see Pixar pop that stigma bubble! I like the scene where Mei's mom thought Mei was getting her period; how she told Mei that it was expected, was nothing to be embarrassed about, and tried to give her everything she needed to get through it. It's still something that no one talks about, but we should because it's part of our everyday lives and crucial to the health of people who experience them. Some people are saying that this movie was awkward, but that was the whole point of the film. Puberty/adolescence itself is awkward and cringy. In my opinion, this movie was a great way to show the emotional rollercoasters teens go through. Turning Red is also the first Pixar film in the company's 36-year history to be solo-directed by a woman. And there was an all-female creative team. Finally!!!
So... I take it you haven't heard of that _Braceface_ episode that discussed periods? Personally, I find it *incredibly* ironic that everyone is praising a Pixar movie normalising periods, and yet they have a hard time treating periods as normal, and instead are all like, "OMG, THEY MENTIONED PERIODS! WOOHOO!" Like... can't a movie discuss periods without everyone making such a big deal about it?

Apart from the turning into a panda thing, this was so similar to my middle school experience! Seeing a bold tween girl find herself in Toronto, navigating a complicated relationship with my overprotective immigrant mother. This film made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Benji's comment about crushing on cartoon characters when you're a kid, reminded me of how much I loved the 1973 cartoon of Robin Hood, that was one suave fox!
😂😂 I can see it
I think it was Simba & Tramp for me. They were romantic & sweet 😍
For me it's an anime character. I will always be in love with Sesshomaru.
I mean my husband is a great man but he doesn't have that hair! Or much of his own hair.
I was 16 when The Little Mermaid came out, but I was mad crushing on Prince Eric. Dark hair and light eyes are my kryptonite. A prince with an open mind to unconventional love, chivalrous and brave....I WAS HOOKED! Lol
My sister had a thing for Mufasa. I tried not to judge, but I couldn't help but side eye that choice. I was like...an animal? Really?! Um....ok.
Can we talk about you guys' editing style for a moment?? its god tier!! The serotonin in my brain is going BRRRR
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I lost a lot of sleep that weekend lolol
When Rizzo said “menopause” I almost choked on my damn coffee. Love y’all so much!!
😂😅
Loved the reaction, especially Rizzo’s scream when Ming brings the pads to Mei’s school😆… but HOW could you show that Bly Manor clip RIGHT AFTER THE DAD’S COOKING SCENE!?! Traumatizing guys, traumatizing
It is the truest artist journey that once you realize you can draw people you like - you can draw people you like holding you in their arms with literal flowers in the air around you. This movie did it soo right I felt EVERYTHING.
I was laughing this whole video I don't think you guys understand how similar your reaction were to mine when I first watched it 😂😂
I bet you're right! would love to see that!
SAME
5:23 very similar to Lilo and stitch when, her older sister Nani screamed on the pillow as Lilo screamed on her pillow, too.
THE CUT FROM TURNING RED TO MEAN GIRLS IS THE FUNNIEST THING I’VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME
Finally, I knew I want the only one who thought of boys in motion when I saw 4town! Lol great reaction guys!
Benji had those songs stuck in my head now lol
This movie is Asian Excellence: It has a Chinese-Canadian Protagonist, it’s not stereotypical and there’s Sandra Oh.
one of my new favorite movies…the soundtrack is unmatched
Yea!😍 fluffies have feelings 😍😍😍
yalls energy is just so warming during these trying times right now please keep it up
🥰🥰🥰
This editing is TAKING ME OUT. But honestly, I loved this movie. Finally, a movie about what it is like being a tween girl and it gets so much hate for what reason???? This is why we can't have nice things. Also, I want to be in Mei's friend group ASAP. ALSO ALSO Priya and the goth girl were supposed to kiss/like one another but it got cut because of the disney controversy
Safe to say, we are all 4Townies by the end of the movie.

Omg I have no idea which is which - who is the main guy???
@@PinkPopcast The lead singer who hit the high note in the third last scene and is voiced by Jordan Fisher? That's Robaire.
Tae Young stan present ✌
Robaire gang🙏🏾
Robaire all the way!
Actually Rizzo, Tokidoki is an Italian brand that takes Japanese elements because the creator Simone was fascinated with Japanese culture and style lol. He is Japanese by marriage though 😂
That’s so crazy! So an Italian Puerto Rican is wearing an Italian brand that made a Japanese shirt from a Japanese by marriage artist in a Chinese-Canadian film by an American Studio?? 😂😂😂 🇮🇹🇯🇵🇵🇷🇨🇳🇨🇦🇺🇸
This was just such an amazing movie and I’ve watched it maybe 5 times. I still have that 4 town song stuck in my head and yes I downloaded it on Spotify haha
can’t tell you why, but something about this reaction is so comforting to me. i come back every now and then to watch it again
🥰🥰
no fr this is like my eighth rewatch. they have such good energy and are so fun!!
I felt so sorry for her when her mother went to the mart and yelled at her crush!
Thank you Rizzo!! I’m with you on Turning Red being better than Encanto. No hate to Encanto, I just wanted more from it.
I felt like it ended and I was just thinking, “is that it???”
Same!
@@PinkPopcast Same! It concluded so fast. Maybe it's because I am a huge Pixar person, so I expect a certain level of conflict resolution (that usually leaves me in a puddle of tears lol).
being someone from toronto this movie made me so proud and felt surreal to see my city in animated form, very cool!!
It’s so weird that when I was younger, the movie I related to when it came to puberty and growing up and periods and stuff was ginger snaps which is probably in my top 5 favorite horror movies. But kids now have sweet tale about puberty 20 yrs later. I would go see a reaction to ginger snaps after this just to see how it contrasts with seeing red. Because seeing red is the pg version of ginger snaps
actually, its a Mei is a Chinese - Canadian, who moved to Canada.
Allso thank you Pixar! This is so great for normalising women's 'problems' as some people put it. Its not weird or awkward, everyone goes through who is feminine!
No one controls it, its just the way we are.
Oh my hell, finally someone understands the appeal of danny phantom. He was my first crush.
Same!🥰🥰
2:17 Don't worry, I think nearly everyone had a crush on Danny Phantom at some point.
Not that his mum hasn't had plenty of fans - I think it's her hips.
Once they started singing that 1 true love song in the stadium I unapologetically teared up
pixar is doing generational trauma with coco encanto and turning red, so mexicans, south americans, and asians. and i’m scared they’re coming for brown people next😭
Omg, I can't even imagine. Soul was amazing but it didn't really hit the generational trauma aspect. As much as I love Pixar, I'm not sure even they could confront that kind of trauma in animated form.
on the one hand, I hate getting older but on the other, I love that the 90's/early00s are coming back as a huge nostalgia thing. this movie gave me so much nostalgia. Also who is the adorable pup in the background?
EDIT: STOP NOT THE BOYS IN MOTION REFERENCE IM DYING
It’s all about the 90s and the Boys in motion!! Haha
The pup is named Sunny 🥰
movies about an eastern asian mother and daughter in the west make me cry so hard. its such a specific dynamic and their relationship was so well done and true to life you can really tell this came from a personal place. seeing my life on the screen like this as a kid would have been life changing and helped me understand my mother a lot. i'm so glad kids have this.
Holy shit the se7en reference “ whats in the fu*king box “ killed me 💀
2:39 was my weakness moment, that was so cute 💕
Thank you guys for always making me laugh and smile with your videos ❣️
23:29 Rizzo is my wife and Benji is me. I'm just all like "yassss musicals give it to me lalalala iconic" and she's all "divorce".
🤣🤣🤣
I never get tired of the introduction! "I'm Rizzzzo, and I am BENjiiii" Love ya guys.
Benji referencing Boys in Motion and B12 im dyingggg😩😩
the way those songs still take up so much room in my brain
Right!? I Also referenced the Oh Boyz from Kim Possible but it didn’t make the final edit lol
I’m obsessed with the dog in the background. It gives off a vibe that I can’t explain
"When do those expire!" I'm dying laughing
The clips from Rugrats about “responsibilities “ and all the clips of the people saying boy had me rolling so much 😂. Omg now gene saying she’s thirsty bish. I’m done. Also what’s up with the cute little bish in the background. Introduce the doggie 🐶 🥺
“You need a shot of b12 you know you do.” Lol s-tier song
It’s been stuck in Rizzo’s head all week now 😂😂
The editing on this video is IMMACULATE
🥰🥰
i love how they show these topics about women and girls, i not a negative way, but a way to grow on. i grew up thinking that periods and emotions were a horrible thing to have and that i’d get made fun of, but they aren’t. i rlly enjoy how they normalize it in this movie bc it should have been ages ago. bc growing up, i always thought that being vulnerable and emotional were signs of weakness, and even the boys who i grew up with were taught to never cry or show emotion bc is was a sign of weakness, but we soon learned that it can actually be a strength and to not be ashamed of it. i love how they represent it in this movie and this is one of my favorite Pixar movies!
4:07 Crying laughing because it feels like you're looking into my childhood right there
YES THE DANNY PHANTOM REFERENCE!!!! I had a crush on him too a bit, he was cool. I don’t blame you! 😂 looooved that cartoon!
I actually didn't love this movie the first time I watched; but watching your reaction makes the movie way more fun and interesting. So, thank you!
I just discovered that this is Rosalie Chiang's first movie role and she's already a favorite VA of mine
2:15 NO!
Hahah he was so cute idk why!
Can we just take a second to look at each expression at 19:40…bros got me dead and they they angels that gave me laughter 🥹
THE EDITING IN THIS HAHAHA I LIVE! First reaction to you guys and i love it 😂
I just responded to someone that I missed two birthday parties and a movie editing this so you’re acknowledging gives me LIFE!
@@PinkPopcast Thank you for your hard work 🧎
As a colombian, I agree SO MUCH, I like Encanto but this was my favorite out of the two.
I love this movie so much, majorly because it takes place in my city (where so much is filmed her yet takes place anywhere else).
I pass by a daisy mart on my way to and from work but I see it when I'm headed home at night. Every single time I think of the Daisy Mart scene in the movie
Rizzo stating the facts😌👏🏻. I was waiting for this reaction for so long, you guys are the best! I wished you guys included the part where she said "this is what happens when you do drugs" that had me shook🤣 I hope we get a part 2 of Inside Out with this rating, since last time Riley was entering teens...👀 *BEST MOVIE EVER* 😍🙌🏻❤ ps: shout out to Mr. Puppy in the back, so cute🥺
Love the commentary and the edits, so weird that I just got you guys suggested on TH-cam, I'm pretty sure this is my good place
Yayaya!
Idk I think turning red and Encanto shouldn't be compared. They are both super important in different ways, one about coming of age/puberty and the other about generational trauma and the trauma of being the outcast child. I feel like neither is better then the other because they're both so important in different ways.
Edit: Obviously turning red also features generational trauma too but I was more on about how in encanto it's kind of the central conflict yk
Also I love how Priya is voiced by Devi's actress from never have I ever
The B12 song at the end really got me. The best thing American Dad ever did
21:58 jajajajaj Big mouth... no me lo esperaba 😂😂😂😂
The editing in this video is immaculate! (as always
Omg thank you! I missed two birthday parties and a movie working on this but it was worth it 😅
Do you notice that scene where Mei Mei is running through school and she runs into the bathroom? There was a girl there who had a insulin pump this is because one of the directors was a TD1
It was my friend's birthday, the day Turning Red was released on Disney Plus and we were having a small party after school. Just 5 girls, playing video games, hitting a piñata, but then we decided to try pot for the first time. We watched the movie high as Hell, and it was an experience that I'll never forget.
I just found your channel... you guys are so adorable and wholesome!!! 😭🤗 I'm going back to binge all your reactions!!!
AWW YAAYAYAYA!
I have a friend who loves this movie and I told her you guys were reacting to it. I hope she gets a chance to watch.
Oh my gosh yes!!! My vote one!! I love that show.
yay! Let us know if she does!
@@PinkPopcast I will!!
@@PinkPopcast she watched and loved it!!
It’s nice to hear Rizzo wanting to take a break from ‘Bridgerton’. Also, I didn’t notice the Japanese T-Shirt because I was distracted by his face lol
I mean Bridgerton is over for now so he gets his break! Excited for the Great!!
I agree, Rizzo! I liked this movie more than Encanto.
I was cackling at the Big Mouth intro song bits 🤣 thanks guys needed the laugh ❤️
i haven't actually watched this movie (i REALLY need to) but this is the second reaction video i've watched to it and i've cried and both of those alone so i think i'll need some tissues lol
11:40 look at the beautiful smile in background 😍
Love that doggo at 11:40 ! Thank you so much for your reactions, I’ve had such a good time watching them!
i lived on a military base in germany in the mid 90s. i had a gigapet that malfunctioned and just made a high pitched electronic noise.
This cinematic masterpiece centers around generational trauma drama/comedy/action/philosophy/scifi and is easily the best film of 2022, and in my Top 5 favorite films EVER! I would love to see you do a movie reaction to this utter gem!
The desperately wanting to go to a four town concert reminds me of how I used to be with one direction
Great episode! Loved how enthusiastic you were for this movie.
It was sooooo goood!
I feel like you have a HUMONGOUS folder with movies references for these edits :D
Like, how many movies do you keep in your head?!
Great reaction!
It ABSOLUTELY is 😂😂
We remember ALOT of the movies we see haha
@@PinkPopcast 😆😆
I restore random facts like that Caesar Salad is named after a chef named Caesar and not after Julius Caesar. Yeap. That's it. That's the random fact 🤦🏼♀️
Fingers crossed this bit of information didn't override any movie reference!
love the dead dog in the back, love you guys, love this movie
OMG NOOOO 💀😂
19:09 You just hit me with nostalgia! I watched this series every day when I was a kid :'D
This video reminded me of how much I LOVE this movie 😭😭💖💖
Your editing are so on point that I'm subscribing!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
19:09 you awakened a lost memory!! I miss That’s so Raven.
