- Hi,
in this video I examine Serge Resonant Equalizer and Afterneath by Earthquaker Devices, including some mentioning of Erica Synths Black Low Pass Gate. These three, I consider them an instrument, albeit they do require a sound source. I find that it is certainly one to my taste.

1:37 Serge Res. Eq. - what it does
4:05 Serge - feedback patch
7:19 Afterneath - Drag control
8:40 Afterneath - Mode control
10:55 Serge - lower frequencies - wooden instrument
12:09 Serge / LPG - higher frequencies
12:46 Afterneath - Dampen control
14:15 Interlude - It gives me the chills...
15:39 Afterneath - Reflect Return - Attenuation
17:33 Afterneath - Dry / Wet signal

SPECIAL NOTE!
Input knob on Afterneath is unconventional. Past noon, it amplifies the signal beyond modular levels to allow instrument level instruments (e.g. guitar) To be plugged directly into Afterneath. I guess many people don’t realize this and find Afterneath noisy when using it with modular because they increase the input too much…

Dammit!!! Now I have get the Serge res. Eq, lol! Awesome sounds:)
It is amazing. I think it is the most rewarding module I own.
Loving the deep drones!!
It would be interesting to know how you came up with this combination. What was your thinking? Thank you. Also, how did you get the Erica Cat!! ?
It happened as I believe many good things happen when it comes to eurorack, by trial and error. I didn't think that much, although I'd have liked to say that I did... The true hero here is Serge Resonant EQ, the reverb can be replaced, albeit the tape like effects on Aftermath are not ubiquitous. Concerning Black LPG, I find that it easily accentuates tones/sounds due to the trigger input (and the vca + filter combo), which just fit the Serge.
The cat happened to pass by. Another happy accident... But the connection between it and the Erica Synths cat is not a case of serendipity... 😉
Hey bud, I love this so much. I am working on an indie game (all myself) and am teaching myself eurorack in order to make the soundtrack. This would sound perfect in it, so perfect. Would you help me get the patch set up? I'm still new and learning it all, not 100% sure how to get it set up. Love this though, such a perfect drone
Thanks. That is quite ambitious, to say the least. About the patch, what modules do you have? The same that make up this patch? Another thing, to recreate a complex patch is not known to be easy in eurorack...
@@axis_8 Going to buy these guys and try to get this going. Obviously I cant get it going exactly like your setup, but i'd like to try to recreate that drone sound if I can. While it's a lot of work to make a game, I've been learning game dev for a long time, and it's much easier to make a game now a days than it used to be.
@@grandmasterglick5895 I used C and C++ long ago when I studied informatics at the university. Actually, I picked up Python some time ago. So I have an understanding of your claim that it is easier to make a game these days, the extensive libraries and graphics cards these days make a huge difference, I reckon.
Anyway, the key to these drones are Serge Res Eq. It's mandatory. I guess any low pass gate with trigger in will do, and any decent reverb, but Afterneath has modulation capabilities that animate the drones in a specific way, but I think it is not necessary if your goal is to achieve the spectacular impact of the Res. Eq.
@@axis_8 I think I will try to get all three of these like in the video. Really love the sound, I think it would fit my game so well. And yeah, the libraries and other tools for games now are pretty incredible. I started learning this "the hard way" decades ago, things have advanced to the point now where you can stop focusing on programming the hard stuff, and just focus on the game. Take a look at Unity and Unreal for example, very cool stuff. I will make sure to give you a special shout-out in the credits, love this sound, thank you for sharing it with us.
@@grandmasterglick5895 Since it quite hard to replicate the exact patch with all the minutiae, chance is that a new patch will sound different. So, if you like, I could send you the whole .wav file and you could use whatever you like of it for your project, for free, of course. Just mention me in the credits.
