Definitely sold me on this unit and LPGs in general. Really a great part of the "West Coast"/Buchula synthesis style. Damn, vactrols! I'm pumped. Great demo, as always. Every manufacturer you feature products for owes you so much sales commission haha. You do great work. Your demos always sound great, too. I've got the Pico Wavetable VCO, fascinating unit. Gives you some great analog sounding waves, but also some nutty crunch digital stuff. I've got a Waldorf NW1 and a Shapeshifter for regular Wavetable stuff, but I am grateful for the Pico VCO nevertheless. This LPG will really give me some great options.

Does anyone know who makes the Ethernet bridge to the left of Mutes per chance?

I wonder if that jumper is on the back of the lpg's on the system iii?

Sounds great, I'm mildly curious about consistency of the vactrol response across individual module builds, that's kind of difficult to accomplish, correct? Like some will be faster than others?

So are vactrols back in europe? I thought they were not allowed anymore and that's why we have been seeing the move away from them by various manufacturers.

Old stock?...I think no new manufacturing due to cadmium

Thonk used to stock them from China. Different restrictions...

      These ones are RoHs compliant

@@corradomorgana I wonder how they got them RoHs compliant though, They still contain LDR's which cant be made without cadmium which is the sole cause of them being banned in the first place.

Could i use this module to stop my oscillator making sound till i press a key?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Hi Kalu, yes this would work for that.
Oscillators will drone endlessly and don't response to the note on and note off of say pressing a keyboard. So you take an oscillator into a VCA, send the gate output from your CV keyboard or MIDI-CV converter and use that gate to open and envelope, that envelope then controls the level of the VCA.
Best thing to do before spending money on hardware is to download the free VCV rack and play around with sending oscillators into VCAs and using gates to control envelopes and use those to open the VCAs to control the sound.
      Hope that helps.

VCO -> some wavefolding -> LPG (and something triggering the LPG.) That's basically all.

do different vactrols have different response curves?

When a few of these modules add up to over a monkey then Moogs seem reasonable value...

I have both a Mother-32 (MOOG) and a big system, and in the beginning, you are right. A semi-modular is very attractive price-wise. But later, when your case gets fuller and fuller, you realize how limited semi-modulars are (you want 6+ LFOs but the Mother only outputs 2 signals and they both run at the same speed). They are a good starting point, but it is hard to stay inside the limitations of semi-modular besides wonderful MOOG product videos ;D

ah yes, but then they do offer this for around £450 matttechmodular.co.uk/product/pico-system-iii-desktop-box/ ...or the eurorack module version for £399. That's awesome value for money when you add up what's in it
