In this video I show you how I apply decals on miniatures and model kits. if you're looking to add more character, unique iconography, and custom effects on models, e.g., Warhammer 40k, historical military figures, vehicles, and other miniature kits, decal transfers are a great way to do it!
The best looking decals are those that don't look like stickers. Decals should appear natural, like they were painted onto the miniature's surface.
Here, I share my workflow and tips for how I efficiently apply decals from wet slide transfer sheets to miniatures. They key tools are shown below, including the use of decal solution, which is essential for a great fitting decal placement.

Many folks (especially Scale Modlers) recommend a Gloss Varnish on the surface before applying the decal. This eliminates "decal silvering" and helps to create the "painted on" look.
Hey! Cool yeah I heard that too. This works well on large models, but most of the time when you apply a varnish underneath the decal you also tend to obscure some of that surface detail depending on the type of model you’re painting on. In my experience to avoid this, I try not to apply decals over too many layers of underlying paint, or any other media, including varnish.
