Nice probably one of the few that mentions to seal sand with water down PVA. It is so important in my opinion
Honestly I think it's one of the most important steps 🙂
@@TheHobbyGrotto totally O first got told when I was ten by a gw staff and have always done it since
I remember they used to put it in the GW books too! 😁
Hey bud I sealed my PVA glue / sand and gravel, but this batch the base is comeing off ! :( How come my base is peeling off ? I did the sames steps before ... it was really strong before but this new batch is weak and the sand / gravel peal off the base, i had to use Gorllia glue to glue it back on. I used gorllia glue to glue the edjes of the base to stop it from peeling off again. What have I done wrong ? If this keeps happening I might have to just buy a pre mixed texture paint to save time and worry.@@TheHobbyGrotto
It's possible that it's something with the glue, or something on the bases themselves (residue or oils), I've had this happen to me once or twice in the hundreds of bases I've done so it's super rare. I'd definitely recommend trying a new pva glue.
Thank you so much for this video sir, simple to understand and direct to the point.
No worries, always happy to share that knowledge! 😀
Retired from active service had me LOL, it's how those brushes feel
Haha, they put in the hard yards, and then it's not even over, they have that glue brush destiny 🤣
Solid vid, I never use PVA with brushes; silicone shapers are my go to.
Also herbs & teas make for great flocks with birch-seed being perfect for tiny leaves.
Great suggestions! I've been meaning to get some silicone shapers for sculpting, so I might see how they go with the PVA! 😁
Not as much with Warhammer, but one thing that is, in my opinion, essential, is some wall patching compound. I get the small tubs that the Dollar Tree has in their tools section and use a cheap brush of the type that you can bulk buy for kids paints rather than one of the ones for painting. With a wet brush, you can work it and do things like blend in the smaller integral bases into an actual base or do different things there.
Also, with sand, one option is to use supergle to put it in place, you can even get some gaps and ground work done with it, if you get it in the right position, you can get a pretty deep layer with thin superglue over the top, though you might need to wait a bit longer for it to fully dry.
I always like hearing other people's tips, I might need to pick up some of that patching compound, I've never tried that before! 😊
@@TheHobbyGrotto I started using it, mainly, due to a lot of older minis having the cast on bases along with lines like Frostgrave and Mantic that also have them, being able to just blend those into a normal base to match everything else is a whole lot easier than needing to cut them off while working around any detail on the feet...or risking legs snapping
Excellent video as always mate. Quick informative and effective. Keep up the awesome work!
Cheers mate, I think you're going to like the next one 😉
Lovely and useful video! 🤟🏻 Lately I've started to use cheap colors that I've bought from my local DIY store for my base painting. The reason is that I feel guilty to use the expensive miniatures colors for my bases.
Thankyou so much! Craft store paints are definitely handy for bases and terrain, and I've had that guilty feeling before with the cost of paints haha! I think the most important thing is for bases to be consistent across the army regardless of the paints you use. You could even try making some cool texture paints with that craft paint for your bases 😁
Would Elmer's clear glue work?
Definitely! Any kind of craft glue which dries clear like that will do the job! 😀
@@TheHobbyGrotto thanks!
No worries!
Short but sweet, great video!
Thanks for watching! 😄
First, at least this time. Was waiting for your next video haha
Thankyou for the support MrLecourbe, it's always great to see your comments as someone who has been there since the channel began! Legend!
Be careful with getting sand, rocks or basing material in general from the wild.
Most basing material you get from hobby stores has been sterilized from outside elements, usually through baking.
Nothing would be more embarrassing then a model growing mold from having sources materials from outside.
Unless it's a Nurgle mini! 🤣
Very true words, I get my sand from hobby/pet stores generally to be on the safe side.
