The guidance about having the butterfly open when changing the adjustment for the fatboy is something I was not doing. I can see how that can damage the razor. Thanks.
great video but my guess is that the cost you are gonna charge to repair a safety razor will probably be close to a cost of a replacement working razor.
Watched your other video about straight razors and watched this one too. I found the videos really interesting about these vintage products that can still be used.
Great service you provide with this option. I just got a Gillette Slim 1962 H1 razor. It is good overall condition plating wise, but the top rivet that connects to the tbar is loose. So you guys will be reciveing it so for repair and cleaning.
My super adjustable (Black beauty) does not work with clicking, I always use it at four, past nine, effectively thirteen and similar to my Merkur Futur on setting four, my favourite setting on that,I would not fix it as it is a perfect razor for me this way (blessing in disguise) lol, you think the way I do on that one. I actually think I prefer this to the Futur although staights are my thing most of the time. Great video.
Thank you for this informativ Video! Funny thing. I saw a digital Version of an original manual instruction from a Gillette slim adjustable. They said:1. Open the razor 2. Put a blade inside 3. Close the razor. 4. Adjust your setting.... 😲
I don't know if you'll respond to this, but I have a Gillette Slim, and the razor seems to sit crooked and adjusts unevenly on one side. would i be able to fix this myself?
@@RazorEmporium I will probably send it in. My only concern is that I don't want it to be polished or expertly cleaned, as it originally belonged to my grandpa. Either way, thank you for responding! :)
I just got a #19 british aristocrat and the tto function is really sticky. I twist the bottom but the doors don't open I have to push up the bottom to open the doors. Would that be as simple as lubricating the mechanism? Where would I squirt some oil? Down through the top and up from the bottom? Thanks for your help.
Nice video Matt, I have an Aristocrat adjustable with a frozen tray. After seeing this video I have it soaking in CLR. I hope that frees up the tray. The collar moves up and down, and the clicker works but that damn tray is stuck. Do you think I've got a prayer?
I have a Gillette Black beauty long handle, when I open it the gap at the handle where the two parts meats is about 1 mm , it is normal or is to big? Thx for the video.
Thanks for this very informative video. I have an old black handled Gillette Adjustable that my father bought for my grandfather in the late 70's. When I turn it to 1 and close it the tray is still able to move up and down. Is it normal? Or is the bottom part got stuck before it could close the mechanism completely as it should?
Can I use vinegar mixed out in water to try to loosen the adjustable mechanism on a Gillette Slim. A have the problem that the dial lifts it up, but it wont get down again by itself.
old post but for anyone thinking the same, I tried the vinegar and also ultrasonic cleaner and my try doesn't come down easily by gravity either. that said all three of my slims still adjust fine .
+Mark Murarescu why does it matter if I want to do it or not, it's a question I asked because people always say don't adjust it with the doors closed with a razor in it.
+Mark Murarescu you are right it is a free country, that's why I feel free to ask my question. I have watched the video and follow the rules of not adjusting it while closed with the few razors like this I own. I however do not see any reason for resistance that would mess up the adjustment without a blade in it, therefore I asked the question, and I don't care what you think is stupid.
Why not just tack to brass where the rivet is supposed to be ? Super easy to do, so dont know why a company that specializes in this kind of repair wouldnt be able to do it ?...
@@RazorEmporium close, close the crack with zipp ties and fill the tube with gorilla glue all the way up, while putting the glue in making sure there no air pockets, set it off to the side for a few days, i have done a dozen or more and got good at it
@@RazorEmporium I was hoping for your thoughts on my way to fully repair split handles, I watched one of your videos about this issue and you said everything y'all tried failed, here's how to do it (1) run a coarse sandpaper through the tube to shine it up and leave the inside scratch up so glue will adhere solid (2) clean with acetone (3) close the split completely with zip ties (4) fill the whole tube with CLEAR gorilla glue, use a long toothpick to work the out and insure no air pockets are in tube and let set several days (5) check if both ends are set tightly, if glue didn't lock the ends use a thin layer of CLEAR superglue to the ball and neck to finish the job I have put a thin layer of vaseline on the outside incase glue tries seep thru the split and set on the outside

A real helpful Video. Thank you so much. You answered to my questions regarding my 1941 tto.

Nice to see the photo of our late friend, Roy, near your right elbow. Best wishes, Peter.
Thanks Peter! There's an upcoming video we'll be releasing dedicated to Roy.

I'll look forward to it.
Hi I have a Jagen David twist open - the door's won't open. Is there any way this can be fixed?
Send in for a tune up don't force it.
Matt, you look so young but don't worry you are aging gracefully.
Jeez Matt I wish I could see the repairing going on it sounds so interesting.
we have a few videos showing various repairs

You will spend more money on tools to do it properly than to send to us

Very well said Matt I Learned a lot . Also you are very young looking in this video How Time Fly's

No. The press fit that holds the bottom knob needs to be tightened. Send in for a tuneup service. Thx
What kind of glue is good for reattaching the ball on the old type!
I have a black tip that comes loose after loading it and tightening it after 1 stroke? How can I fix this?
How can I fix a slightly crooked blade gap in my slim?
I have a slim that seems to be 'slanted'. What might be the problem?
One of the doors on my shavely's safety razor fell off. I finally got it back on but now the handle won't twist. Should I just buy a new one?
Send an email with pics help@razoremporium.com
i can not open my black beauty silo doors. tto knob jammed..when i forced to twist. the head is turning..
Excellent presentation! Many thanks

Excellent video and information, Matt. Thank you.
i have just gotten a G SS and the head is croked, is this very bad and can it be fixed...???
My riser tray does not seem to rise easily with just the push of a finger . My slim seems to work perfectly otherwise. Any ideas?
As long as it can raise and lower with the mechanics / blade loaded and all you are good. Gravity only works on some.

Great video. Thanks heaps for that.
Does it cause damage if you adjust the dial with the doors closed with no razor blade in it?

I think it’s from tightening it too hard
