- Same old thang y'all! Sunn Brothers hitting you with another simple cheese for what can be one of the most troublesome boss fights in the game if you're not comfortable with parrying.
One of the worse bosses I’ve ever played against. It’s not hard it’s just doesn’t stop attacking. Did even try with this boss? All they did was multiply aggression to the max.

@@eligreg99 Absolutely but that’s the whole trope of the fight, you need to learn to deal with a hyper aggressive enemy using the tools at your disposal, He is parryable and dodgeable and can be outspaced by a competent player
@@Antpoison I just beat him in about 10 tries. This is my first time playing Dark Souls 3 after coming from ER and DS1. It was more satisfying beating him legit than cheesing him. All I did was use a shield to block his kick and should attacks and hit him with a light attack or two before retreating and repeating that lol. He’s actually not that hard if you don’t play aggressive like he is and just wait for a chance to get a hit in.
You can still partially trap him by the entrance/wall area and toxic mist him through the wall. He does get around eventually but you might only need to do this 3 or 4 times and dodge a handful of times.

That's pretty much Gundyr in a nutshell. He's a master of the ground and pound. There's a reason this guide got made, and it's because he's an absolute monster until you figure out his timing. Just keep at it, fellow undead! You will be victorious in your perseverance!

Wtf, NGL it satisfied when I suddenly mastered parry in this fight,other bosses I used the old school method with rolling and punish,hell yeah
It is super satisfying, especially because Gundyr is such an enormous butthole when it comes to punishing you for rolling instead of parrying. Congrats on learning his timing and making him your b**** 👍

Except I'm shite at parrying in ds3 mate lol you only need to learn how to parry a single move, and bait him into it. It is easy. If it wasn't, I wouldn't be able to do it 😂

@@d1m4e32 this fight is honestly where I learned how, so you might take advantage of the fact that you've been stuck on this boss to practice. Idk how anyone parries pontiff though. The pope always kicks my butt 😂

@@d1m4e32 I think because parrying in ds1 was almost too easy, whereas 3 requires you to REALLY know your timing.

Glad to help! Parry timing is something I struggled with a lot in ds3 at first, and when I would see boss videos saying, "just parry this attack," I'm over here like "bruh I suck at parrying though." That's exactly why I wanted to include it. That way even if someone isn't great at it, the guide can still help them. Thanks for showing the channel some love!
its so frustrating with this guy. I can parry the first 2-3 attacks no prob. At phase 2, you don't know what to expect since he moves so fast (and you can't pop an estus cuz of that).

So there's to way to cheese him and then you made a video and labeled it a cheese. Lame.
Honestly, I just used great chaos fire orb on him with the pyromancy rings equipped and it did quite a substantial amount of damage, albeit it was pretty damn hard to dodge his attacks but I managed to push through in the end

Im using weapon art of the Dragonslayer spear and swordmaster distraction, almost killed him many times cuz the weapon art does like 500 600 damage and has hyper armor the only problem is when he kills the sword guy cuz then i cant heal or drink ashen estus
Your guide isn't the only one that says to parry with a small shield but its is the only one that says to dodge always to the right and to go for the jumping attack which helped me win the fight. Thanks mate

It is oftentimes exploitative of a game's mechanics, taking advantage of oversights in game balance made by the developers to easily deal with an obstacle.
"Strategy" is literally part of the whole phrase, and is included in the definition. This cheese exploits Gundyr's AI, baiting him to trigger his most easily parried attack, thus comparatively trivializing the encounter.
Don't confuse "cheese" with things like "glitch" or "break." Some some cheeses are glitches, some break enemy AI completely, others simply manipulate enemy AI to make it behave the way you want.

When you cheese a game, you're exploiting systemic quirks or apparent design oversights to gain maximum advantage for minimum skill or effort." Most gamers I know understand cheesing to be a way of defeating an enemy using unintended methods. Not necessarily a glitch, but a clear deviation from what the developers intended. Using the Millwood Greatbow outside the fog is a cheese. Gaining a platform to shoot arrows where the enemy can't get to you is a cheese. Parrying is built into the game and is intended to be used. Gundyr is especially susceptible to it. If you look up "How to cheese" whatever boss you get a whole bunch of videos like yours that are using tactics and strategy as intended and labeling it cheese to get people t o click on the link. We'd check Fextra.

How do I put parry on the caestus bc mine has perseverance
If you have caestus equipped in your off hand only, your L2/LT (or whatever it is on PC) is automatically a parry. Any fist type weapon can work this way in ds3.

Thank you for this guide!! I just upgraded my spiked mace to lightning +7 and killed him for the first time ever after about 5 tries or so😄 I'm not skilled at parrying but the caestus saved my life!

Not everyone can parry tho since this isn't cheese but how to fight it correctly.
Cheese would be getting the boss stuck and use the environment against him which you can do damage while being untouchable or push him off the ledge.
I started Dark Souls 3 yesterday, only had enough time to get past Ludex Gundyr/First Boss, and I didn't know he wasn't as hard to fight as it looks since all these bosses look like they eat Steroid O's, and honest question, does anyone know how to back stab on Xbox? And is it champion gundyr when you do a new game plus or something?
Backstab is just a matter of positioning and making sure your character's feet are planted before you press R1, but they don't apply to like 90% of bosses. As for what makes him Champion Gundyr instead of Iudex Gundyr...I think I'll let someone else spoil that for you 🤙
