love you already.. i didn't even know there were plenty 4b/4c hair girls on youtube. I'm glad I found you. Alot of what i see are type 3 hair girls or 4a.
I love how real and transparent she is. Like she's not trying to be someone she isn't, it's like she's just talking to you and having a normal conversation. new subbie!
I'm a Formulation Chemist and specialize in Skin Care, Hair Care, and Color Cosmetics and everything she is saying is right on the money! 👌🤓 I also love your sense of humor too!
Hi, sorry, I just have a question. I'm interested in a career in cosmetic chemistry and would like to have my own company one day. I'm just wondering, what educational path would I take to have such a career?
Elenore Friedsberg-Luft Hey there! After college I landed a job at at cosmetic manufacturing facility and entered in the industry this way working in the different categories of color cosmetics and personal care. Typically, you will need a a degree in one of the sciences to work in the lab. There’s a lot of opportunities within the industry such as formulations, analytical, testing, packaging, marketing, to name a few.
Your video had me nodding in agreement with a ton of the things you said about things that just didn't make sense when it came to natural hair. I'm one of the "protein-sensitive" ladies meaning my hair is extremely dry so it's extremely difficult to replenish moisture after protein treatments which makes it more prone to breakage instead of less (that's what I always thought protein sensitivity was supposed to mean anyway, which is more of an issue with deep conditioning/finding the right way to apply protein to your hair). But protein sensitivity on its own makes little sense for the exact same reason you described. I do have 1 interesting little tidbit to share: your body can be water sensitive, as little sense as it seems to make lol. I have a condition called aquagenic pruritus where my body erupts in itch for 30-45 minutes after coming into contact with water that isn't either extremely hot or extremely cold. That means swimming and pedicures are impossible for me, and I have to be really strategic about working out or moving about during the summertime due to issues sweating may cause. I believe it's an autoimmune issue which a lot of other water "allergies" I've researched seem to be. I guess all I wanted to say is sometimes the human body goes against logic lol.
omg, i remember in primary school we did a trip to the zoo, it started to rain, and that boy had a crisis. They called an ambulance, we had to go back to school, shitty day, when we asked what got to him they said "he was allergic to the rain". So since 2002 my eyebrows were raised like wtf how can someone be allergic to the rain, but i guess today I got my answer thanks
seriously, had 2 take a moment to comment and THANK YOU for the detailed video, even though I'm vieweng it almost a year later. I note that so many natural hair videos attempt to offer tips on great moisturizers but usually end up recommending oils only. Your highlight of aloe vera juice and even the Hawaiian silky is a vast difference for 4c hair. keep up the great work, new subbie here!
I bought the hawaiian silky curl activator gel. My hair is thick and this keeps it very moisturized. I must say my hair loves it!! Thank you for your videos/reviews!!!
+Serena Guest I was so surprised to realize my hair prefers the Burdock, but I do bring in the heavy cream sometimes for my ends, or if my hair needs a little something more...well, *heavy*, haha.
I think the term of "Protein Sensitivity" means just that. The hair already has "enough" protein in it that it doesn't need any more added to it. My hair behaves that way and we shouldn't be afraid when that happens. However, I do find the types of proteins introduced to the hair, do make a difference. I cannot put Flaxseeds gel(at all), avocado, Fenugreek, coconut/soy milk often on my hair since they're heavy. They will leave my hair ridiculously 'hard', or stiff, which leads to breakage; no amount of oils added to it, will help detangle it and it must be rinsed out immediately. But, lighter proteins like Aloe, coconut oil(combined with other oils), or hydrolyzed ones will get the job done smoothly. People with "Protein Sensitivity" should use more oils, give their hair lots of water, avoid products will alcohols( like EcoStyler Gel) and keep a look out for products with protein in them; this method has worked for me so far. The key is education and experience that comes with trials/ errors to see what does/n't work. I am not trying to make this an argument, just leaving this comment for those watching this video who have experienced same as I. I hope this is helpful and educational to you.
My son's hair is sensitive too. I kept listening to people suggesting adding more and more protein to stop his breakage, but his hair just turned into straw. I used a chelating shampoo and protein free products and his hair transformed.
me too .. i'm definitely "protein sensitive" .. all these protein / keratin treatments .. coconut oils ... greek yogurt, blah, blah blahs lol .. all leave my hair hard, dry & brittle like hay. smh. The minute I cut all the proteins out? Hair flourished lol ... Like you said, my hair has all the protein it needs
I totally agree. Learning that my hair hated coconut oil--one of the most praised oils in the natural hair community--changed my hair tons. Now my hair grows and retains length, and it is easier to manage. Only I found out my hair was low porosity which tends to be protein sensitive.
Thank you. This was very informative and definitely applicable to my own hair as well. I, like many others thought that the fact that my hair became hardened and stiff as a result of a treatment with an egg, for example, meant that there was something wrong with my hair. I have high porosity hair so I will try the combinations that you suggested (besides the coconut oil as it irritates my scalp). This is awesome!
I'm 4c and went natural 6 years ago. stayed natural about 18 months and then texturized. detailing was pulling out way too much hair. I'm not as patient as I should be with my hair. transitioning again now for 6 months then I will big chop in probably feb. used a lot of the same products that u use. I'm gonna try again. glad I found you. I embrace my hair I just was not patient enough before, character flaw.
I completly understand what your saying. I have 4c and some parts 4b and I dangle with a wide tooth comb and I'm genital but I still hear popping. I just feel my hair won't get enough if I only do it by hand.
I'm not very patient either, I use both my fingers and the comb. I find what works is hand separating your hair in eight - ten sections (1st in half down the middle, then front to back in 4 or five). Then I start from the hardest section to detangle. As I go along, i use a spray bottle to dampen the section (not soaking wet, just damp enough to soften). If it's prior to washing, I use water mixed with a really slippery conditioner like tresseme, but if I'm not planning to rinse/wash my hair I use just warm/hot water. Then I do a quick detangle with my fingers, pulling at the ends first to loosen then pulling any big knots apart... very briefly, I don't go in with the finger detangling bc it's so time consuming. THEN I go thru with a big tooth comb, starting from the ends and then going up. Takes about as little to 30 mins to sometimes an hour, depending on my mood lol I usually watch a TH-cam video or something on my DVD while I do it. Hope that helps!
If my hair is a hot mess and extremely tangled, which only happens if I go to bed with an already tangled fro and smush it down even more and it gets matted. 🙄🙄 out of pure laziness lol smh THEN what I do is simply dampen it then SLATHER on a bunch of tresseme and it's so easy to detangle. Tresseme's conditioners give me thee best slip.
OMG this entire video had me so in tune and entertained. Like everything about it was perfect. especially those side notes "I'm threatened by change" #DEAD
So glad I found you! I was just wondering what kind of deep conditioner and moisturizer I should get next. You have pointed me in the right direction, and I love to support black owned! Thanks a bunch!
Great video. I would NEVER have considered Hawaiian Silky, but you holding up SUCH a massive jar is testament in itself. Going to try it. Loved your no nonsense style. New subscriber...
I am so amazed that I have only just discovered your videos today. Where have you been my entire time on TH-cam?! Now I'm going to binge watch your videos because your personality and information just give me life!
love your no nonsense informative approach to healthy hair maintenance, and your thoroughness in product selection. I enjoyed watching and will get on board and subscribe. thanks!
watching the video with my 8 yo in the room and then I hear "shea moisture has a line that comes out every fucking month". 😂😂 I had to stop the video. Don't they though?!
Where do I begin. GORGEOUS! Superficial, yes but Idc your beautiful😍. Also you have, imho, PERFECTED the "No Makeup" makeup look! This is what I would love my makeup to look like all the time. Your intellectually sarcastic dry humor is what made me a subscriber. It doesn't matter if you left the natural hair community, your commentary brings me back time and time again and I plan on staying. Your really have the face, voice and personality for television.
LMMFAO! I love how honest and real your videos are. "Just another fucking Shea Moisture product." I HOLLERED! Most vloggers are so worried about not offending people, that the videos come off as fake and contrived.
Thanks for this I use some of the same things you use like Hawaiian silky and coconut oil And you are beautiful as ever, very stunning And I love your bluntness and "attitude "
I just wanted to say thank you. Last night was my first time watching your video an it was awesome. I like people that KEEP IT REAL! I have been trying different products and continuing to learn new things each day about my hair. I am going to try the vinegar for sure, because my hair is a HOT mess when detangling. THANK YOU again, keep it up. Love your hair.
super long video but SUPER insightful, honest, and beautifully intelligent! Definitely worth the time I spent (thanks for not wasting my time) . . . I enjoyed every second, and just sub'd. Luv ya!
it's very beneficial hearing about different products to get a personal opinion of how a product work. Going natural, listening to the videos from all the girls has been especially helpful for me.
I really love all of the products that you use on your hair because I also use some of them too. They are really moisturizing for dry 4c hair. Thanks for sharing with us.
LOL LOL LOL - how could I not hit the subscribe! Your natural hair humor surpassed 100! I concur with the posted re-quotes, HILARIOUS!!! I feel cheated to have missed your channel for so long - WTH?¿?! Anywhooo - going to scroll thru your other vids for some tips & tricks or just amusement. Thanks for sharing your options & time.
That 👏🏽 Hawaiian 👏🏽 Silky 👏🏽 is 👏🏽 the 👏🏽 truth! Thank you thank you thank you for putting me up on that product. It is the only product I’ve ever used that has kept my hair moisturized for more than a day. It’s made all the difference for me so thanks for sharing.
I just want you to say welcome to the fam for me.... I subscribed so quick. Also dang you're so articulate all of your intelligence just cleared up a loooot of doubt I had about using ANY products
girl, i want to thank you sooooooooo much for introducing me to my new love (hawaiian silky activator gel).... it makes my hair feel so good! ughh i will always use this gel
I’m a new subscriber (only been around for a few months), and after watching your video from today, TH-cam recommended a video from January. Now, I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of carded videos lol I’m loving all the content, not to mention this look. Very bad-ass-bassist-in-an-all-female-funk-band. 👩🏾🎤😜
New subscriber ! I loved this video, Loved your honesty and no cut cards way of talking about the products. Im def gonna order that huge bottle of Aloe!.
Angélic - 😅😁 whhhaaaaat lmbao...oh idk how to take this comment. It literally has me in tears laughing, but I'm also bothered that you wont purchase from black owned businesses....which thoroughly saddens me.
Riccia Thomas same, it's a shame people have so many complaints but aren't willing to work with a lot of these business' to elevate their brands and or customer service. It's a process.
Thank you for this. You're the first youtuber that ACTUALLY has hair similar to mine. So.. I'll try to do as you do because I love your hair texture and length and you're pretty. Good luck in all that you do and blessed be.
I was thinking "wow" she looks stupidly familiar and then I remembered... SHE WAS ON TASTED WITH NOAH GALUTEN! That was my favorite (and only) subscribed food related channel! I'm happy to see that she's glowing like a queen like I remember. Much love!
You're hilarious!!! Definitely will incorporate some of your recommendations in my healthy natural hair journey that I'm going to track on my channel!!! I agree with the shampooing your hair cause I do at least once a month since I cowash weekly.
I've been using the Shea Moisture Jamaican Castor Oil Shampoo and Conditioner and they do have so many products since they got a new partner with more money, but so glad they are still predominantly black owned. I thought I knew about natural products, but I'm really excited to try the products you listed.
Great video, thx for the frank reviews. Love your chic style and articulate conversational quality. The gold earrings are very pretty! Pls share where I can get them!
Hawaiian Silly is such and old standby company! I'll have to look for that huge jar. I have 7 or 8 girls in my family! I could use and share. Sharing at least once a year would be great!
I'd try that mix with aloe without the jojoba. Castor oil absorbs very well in the hair unlike jojoba that just sits on top to protect moisture already added. May work better applying jojoba separetly at the end to keep all dat moisture sealed in as well as a lovely shine 😊
So beautiful! And I love your personality so much! I definitely need to try some of these products...I've been so stuck with trying to keep moisture in my 4B/C coils
"Products, products, products. ...So today I'm gunna talk about products." Absolutely cracked me up.
You had me at "Shea Moisture has a new line that comes out every f*cking month." SUBSCRIBED:)

Nappy, loved your video😍 how do you apply the Hawaiian silky activator? Please reply🤗🤗
+ The Rabbit Curl activators are usually applied to damp or wet hair.
You have the best user name on TH-cam of all time
Lol I like it too. So is Naptural85

Shea moisture conditioners have no effect on my hair. No penetration at all. 😞

What penetrates your hair
Mine neither. They just sit on top of my hair.
Coconut water vinegar?! Noted. I have never seen that in stores.
Heather Maclin+ Ikr?? I never even heard of that. I want some of that.
I'm going to look for it.. Maybe Amazon will have it.. 🤔
Try an Asian market. I get it from the Philippino market. I also make chicken adobo with it.

+Style Domination I know-- it doesn't seem to get much buzz, but I love it! Thanks.
remember most black owned business don't get the same funding as other companies.
Eh, still not investing in products from black owned businesses.
Angélic - 😅😁 whhhaaaaat lmbao...oh idk how to take this comment. It literally has me in tears laughing, but I'm also bothered that you wont purchase from black owned businesses....which thoroughly saddens me.
Riccia Thomas same lol
Riccia Thomas same, it's a shame people have so many complaints but aren't willing to work with a lot of these business' to elevate their brands and or customer service. It's a process.
even though we pay taxes like everyone else. its a shame
Omg your personality is everything 😂 I literally subscribed 10 seconds into the video.
Aww, welcome to the fam!

Awwww Hawaiian silky...the jehri curl gel moisturizer of the 80's. It's doing its j.o.b
The stright forward honesty.. love it LOL.

I agree with the shampooing your hair cause I do at least once a month since I cowash weekly.
damn i love how real you are, so refreshing and rare. subscribed!
baby you are snatched and grabbed BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thanks! The earrings are from ASOS, but they are old so I don't know if they'd still have them.
Extremely helpful review you put me on some products that I will definitely try. I like your style of videos, you got a new subscriber.
+naijababe83 Welcome to the fam!
Hawaiian Silly is such and old standby company! I'll have to look for that huge jar. I have 7 or 8 girls in my family! I could use and share. Sharing at least once a year would be great!
Your videos are sooo funny and informative! Subscribed!
I Live in crown heights ,Brooklyn and the Herb N Life location is right in my neighborhood. Right on time as I was looking for a new shampoo. Score!
OMG I don't comment on videos ever. HOWEVER, I died at "Shea Moisture has a new line that comes out every f*cking month."
Girl-you are stunning! ;)
I liked the vid!I would love to see how you use ayurvedic herbs x
This girl is fucking hilarious.
I'd try that mix with aloe without the jojoba. Castor oil absorbs very well in the hair unlike jojoba that just sits on top to protect moisture already added. May work better applying jojoba separetly at the end to keep all dat moisture sealed in as well as a lovely shine 😊
girl you had me buy everything and im happy, i love your videos .
AS AN INDIAN IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU USE VATIKA!!!!
I bought the George's Aloe Vera juice. Can't wait to try that mixture. I always need moisture on this 4c hair.
So beautiful! And I love your personality so much! I definitely need to try some of these products...I've been so stuck with trying to keep moisture in my 4B/C coils
Thanks! I hope you find something that works out for you!
Oh, it's black owned too. She will add ingredients if you request.
