Looks great! I have the 3d print as well but am using the KIWI Design Vive Pro pads which also work quite well! Which did you find to be more comfortable? This mod, or the Frankenfov mod? Thanks!
I tried the frankenfov mod, and I found it less comfortable. Also, I have a narrow IPD (I bottom out the slider). For people like me, getting my eyes that close to the lenses makes me unable to further adjust the lenses to achieve the same clarity I can get with the original gasket. Light leakage was also pretty significant. Anyone else have that experience? I was closer to the lenses for sure, but clarity suffered.
@@alexlindstrom9971 yeah I was curious because even when testing with no face pad or gasket I do get good clarity and fov being right up against the lenses but was unsure it it would be closer with the Odyssey plus vr cover that’s thicker or this mod with the 6mm pad.
@@sanalgerceklikdoktoru this is the frankenfov deluxe. There is another video and version of this without the 3d printed face gasket called the Frankenfov hence my question above :)
HP needs to come up with improved gasket. Period. We should not deal with this for $600. That’s what I think. It’s good to have solutions tho...for those who are willing to deal with this.
Thanks Sebastian, another great tip for the Reverb 2. I'm so excited, my G2 will be here tomorrow ( ordered Oct 12th )! This is my first VR headset, and you have been a wunderbar help in getting the best information I can for the research, all your videos about the G2 were so very helpful! I already ordered your FRANKENFOV mod from your last video,,, Dankeschön!! ;-)
Just be patient with the G2 setup. If you have any double vision lag with games, set steam game resolutions to 50% and work your way up. Disable steam home if you have issues with it. Another tip, there's a sound bug that black screens games with too much base. Set the volume less than 80%. Good luck. You'll love it!
Looks like System Active in the UK are honouring the £50 gesture of goodwill for all late pre-orders of the G2, I just had confirmation of the £50 credit, so Sebastian I think your taking HP to task over the late pre-orders actually made a difference so thank you for getting involved.
I bought the ebay 3D print kit and it works amazing! For $40 you get the gasket itself, foam pre velcro'd, nose piece and magnets. Really improves the FOV and I can really tell a difference. Be careful because if you're too tight your eyelashes and the middle of your head will touch the lenses!
I just finished printing it. No magnets yet, but the fit even without a pad is fine. No light leaks and my eyelashes barely touching the lenses, The increase in FOV is immediately noticeable.
I am working on V10 at the moment. I will merge the original G2 gasket nose piece and light blocking ring with the Valve Index gasket. Stay tuned for updates!
That’s awesome news! I’ve just started printing your V9, with fingers crossed that my printer competes this tricky print. It’s very frustrating as a new G2 owner, that the only way you can get a fix for allowing a closer to lens sweetspot is to print your own faceplate. Where is the HP G2 accessory market?
I was just looking at the original face gasket step file that the HP engineer released, and wondered if it would be feasible to just take this and chop out a 10mm wide cross-section slice to create a shallower interface. Combined with the thinner 6mm padding MRTV linked to, this might be a tidy solution for better FOV / sweetspot. But unfortunately my Fusion360 skills aren’t anywhere near good enough to know where to even start with trying to slice up an existing design. LOL :(
Great job!! printed the v9 two weeks ago, very good mod, not pushing my temple anymore, but the fov is same as original, so wonder if you can make it a little bit wider to improve FOV. THANKS.
That's crazy, I really do believe you that you have edge to edge clarity. I have my eyes up to the lenses without face gasket though and my G2 does not. It's blurry if I were to look at the same SteamVR home screen just a few degrees left or right of the sweet spot on the text. It's about as bad as the Reverb G1 was for me. I am not sure if they are using different manufacturers for the lenses at this point! I wish you somehow could get another unit to test with, maybe HP purposely sent you a "final production" unit with incredible lenses for your review? lol.
Experiencing the exactly same thing with my sweet spot and many others are reporting this across the web, especially iracing users, previously owned CV1 and Rift-S and had never noticed a sweet spot but on this it’s exactly how you say, move your eyes slightly off centre and its slightly out of focus which is very distracting, changing the settings in WMR from 720 to 1080 and selecting the quality setting over performance settings did make the sweet spot for me blend in a little bit better but I’m still not satisfied (I’d estimate sweet spot is about 10-15% of the display) and are hoping it can be improved somehow, I never seen Sebastian talking about it too much in his reviews I don’t believe, hoping he can look into it more, I tried holding the display slightly back or forward a bit at various distances to see if it improved like he says these mods would do and couldn’t get it to edge to edge clarity like he says in this vid, hoping there is something else that can be done as too me i’d say its in the optics
Exactly the same for me. My sweetspot is extremely small. I only tried the CV1 of one of my friends and I really can't say that the G2 is much better in that regard. And as tf22raptor said, it is very distracting during use. Kinda makes me a bit sad, had high expectations for the G2... Really weird that Sebastians lenses are that much better.
Great to know there are excellent options for better fitment and viewing that improve FOV and viewing sweetspot! Now I just need to order a set of G2's!!! Mean time I have my Rift S, which from all I've heard from others who have both its worth keeping around and can be used by friends of family to get into multi-player stuff etc. Great review!
I wouldn't do it man. I have IPD only 65mm and even without gasket FOV is so tiny!!! Can't believe it!!! With gasket, it looks like one small circle/funnel at middle and yet it producing weird artifacts... I removed gasket and literally pressed it onto my eyes. I couldn't believe how small FOV is, i thought it was gasket first. But it is overall tiny! I am coming from Index and i wasn't using even max FOV and it was totally immersive and i wasn't noticing black toiler paper like shapes at all. This on other hand, this is opposite of immersive. It is not immersive at all. If this was Rift S for 100$, then i guess. But this cost 600 eur. It is really terrible! You don't have feeling like you are there at all. You are looking through small funnel... It is just awful... I can't believe MRTV didn't warn us about this. Maybe for newcomer, this is ok. But for people, which want to get immersed and play Alyx, or something. This is just terrible. Also even with frankedmod there is huge light lekage MRTV says. Wiht, or without gasket 1/3 - 1/4 of my vertical FOV is just ground and i am not even looking down with my eyes. This is huge downgrade to Index. I would prefere glare, blur, aliasing with FOV of Index every day of the week. I am not trying to make you not to buy it, just reporting what i saw... And to give you warning as i think reviewers weren't too honest/critical enough. If you are new, then maybe you won't mind, but you will need frankenmon for sure. Original gasket is like for face of child and so uncomfortable. Also top strap is hard to adjust with one hand and i don't have comform like on Index, can be because of original gasket is so bad, or HMD is bad... If it was playable then OK, but FOV is really really bad, i don't even...
@@jirivesely5697 Thank you Jiri for your excellent heads up on issues with G2! I've heard some similar things to what you're saying here and it's made me wonder about the quality and immersiveness too Yet there's always others touting how great the experience is (for themselves at least) so yes $600 is a lot of money! I planned to buy the G2, I've been using my Rift S since oculus 1st put the S model out and it has not been a let down to me, yet I know better, clearer options are out. These decisions are always so tough, unless one doesn't care about spending money wisely. Thanks again for your input jiri!!!
@@techinfusions I have it also, but Alyx is a made from the ground up VR game. No Man's Sky is not a VR only game though. It is still a good game in VR. I meant VR only games. Most are low resolution crap, which are even worse once you use the G2, lol.
PROTIP: If you have glasses and aren't wearing them, put them on. I don't need to wear my glasses (far-sighted) when using the headset, I get 20/20 in the sweet spot no matter how close or far I am to a virtual object, but after watching these videos and realizing the gap in the faceplate is made to accommodate glasses, I tried the headset again with my glasses and OMG, so much better. I guess since the glasses are sitting close to the lenses and re-projecting the light it works out. Same 20/20 visual, but now the sweet spot is 90% of the FoV. I was about to return these damn things. Hopefully HP makes a new one to accommodate peeps who don't need glasses.
There's a guy on eBay US that sells these assembled. Gasket, magnets, face cushion (vive pro) and nose flaps. He charges over $40 plus shipping though. I picked one up from him and it's nuts. If I fully tighten it up my lashes brush the lenses. The FOV is huge. I'm probably gonna get a slightly thicker pad for it. PS: Don't get the Samsung pad listed in the OG Frankefov video, it's WAY too thick for a gasket (24mm, lmao)
I tried this a week or so ago - same STL from Thingiverse. I think it did give me some more FOV, but I also could see the square edges of the displays on the horizontal plane. I'm not sure the FOV increase is worth seeing the edge of the displays - but, like you said, it really depends on the wearer's features to what effect you get. For me, I'm not sure yet... Ditto for the sweet spot comments though - it's tiny - even with my eyelashes brushing the lenses, only the centre 20%(ish) is sharp. Glad I'm getting £50 back for this!
Is there a way you can somehow measure sweetspot? eg. Some sort of through the lens camera that would capture the off-axis loss of focus, to be able to compare different capture distances from the G2 lens? If we could view the sweetspot through a camera lense of some sort, then we have a way of doing some more scientific tests and comparisons.
@@xenimaging Nice. I just googled it to read up on TestHMD. I should probably buy a copy too. :) Only thing is that the test is still only based on what the person doing the testing can see (and remember!) for comparisons. Because the assesment is based on what you see through the lens, my point was that ideally there is a way to capture a grab of this (through the lens "sweetspot assessment" view) so that the off-axis sharpness etc. results can be compared side-by-side, and also by others (not just the actual viewer at the time they're using the headset). Hope that made sense? :)
I tried using the samller padding like the vr cover in the video with the original gasket, the problem then is that the hmd does not get small enough for my head. So it would need extra padding at the rear of the head strap. With the smaller gasket, even more padding! It's like HP designed it for massive melon heads.
I'm so mad at the HP team for so many mistakes. Here is a new one I personally found out about. Back in the last days of November, my G2 one day just stopped turning on, though being my fault. I had unplugged my G2 from the headset and had the cable still plugged into the PC. While the cable end that goes into the VR was on the ground, I was making my bed when I felt static electricity go through my body because of the blankets and how dry it is where I live, and it ended up giving a shock from my toe to the cable and then the VR would no longer power up. Ok my fault. Here's where HP failed at launching this thing and are completely disorganized. They told me through support chat that they would send me a box to send my broken VR for replacement and that I would get a new one sent within 3-5 business days of them getting the broken one. So I took their word for it. 2 weeks past and noting so I contact them to have someone tell me they have no G2 in stock and that I would have to wait till they get more, which they couldn't even tell me when that was. How messed up that you keep no stock for replacement when it will no dauntedly have manufacture issues or other issues that will have to be replaced. Let me guess they are trying to make up to those who still haven't gotten their pre orders by taking up all the replacement stock. Its one thing to not have any, Its a hole other thing to be completely disorganized by telling me that I'll have a replacement, to telling me there are none for replacement and they don't know when they will get more... too who ever had a G2 or is soon to get one. You best pray it don't break down on you
Sebastian, do you have a way to check the g2 of someone else? Something wrong with the sweet spot, too many people (including me) reporting a small sweet spot. We need to make sure you got the same lenses than us.
I got my G2 on the 17th and have had similar experience the sweet spot is very small. (FoV is really small as well). It would be interesting for Sebastian to try a non HP hand selected unit. I have found this headset causes more eye strain than my others. (CV1, Pimax 5K+, Odyssey+)
@@HotshotForever Got mine today, I love it, just wish the sweet spot was bigger. The fov mod works for me, nothing dramatic but still better than the original gasket.
Yes, I’m frustrated with my distractingly small sweetspot on my G2. I also got a Q2 and it’s sweetspot is much better for a more comfortable experience. I do like the added resolution / sharpness of the G2, but sometimes the Q2 is just more enjoyable even with slightly more visible pixels. An interesting test is watching a movie (eg. Via SkyBox). The G2 gives amazing centre viewpoint clarity, but the off-axis loss of focus is fatiguing / uncomfortable. Whereas watching the same movie on the Q2 is awesome, just with a little more pixel visibility. I soo want G2 sharpness with Q2 sweetspot comfort. Then we’ll finally “be there” for an awesome virtual home theatre experience.
Hi, thanks for sharing. So I did go for Franken Mod, and I really love it. I can't use only foam mod, since my eyes are too close to the screen and I see wired lens edges. My question is: why you get wider V than H FOV? Whenever I do test with the same software you do, I get higher H rather than Vertical. Before Franken mod I had: V 84deg / H 88deg After mod I get: V 88deg / H 98deg. Cheers!
What we need now for the G2 is a better headband. Something like the Vive Deluxe headband with the rear tightness adjustment dial rather than these annoying velcro tabs at the side.
5 questions. 1: is the current version of the FrankenFOV Deluxe compatible with the G2's or Index' gasket foam? I preffer their texture. 2: Would it be possible to change the lenses of the HMD's cameras so it has a bigger FOV for tracking the controllers? Like basically, glue fish eye lenses and call it FrankenFOV but it's the Headset's tracking FOV. Maybe call it, FrankenTrack? (Fksh eye might be excessive and with deformation, inconsistent, but still, have lenses that increase the 4 little cameras' FOV) 3: That's a mod I want to to to my controllers, I'd like to know if you already tested that, or to see you test that with the G2's controllers, Index like hand thingies so you can open your hands and not have them fall off on the ground, GLock trigger guards to make trigger dicipline easier in games with guns. 4: Have Microsoft said anything about Windows Mixed Reality compatibility on XBox Series S and X, competing with Sony PSVR, XBox Mixed Reality, any form of official, Microsoft dupported console VR? 5: Elite controllers? You know, like how MS made XBox One Elite controllers with better sticks, extra features, ETC, the same idea, but for WMR controllers, specifically, G2 controllers, with the same better sticks, the same weights, extra boutons, better sensers, a charging station and dedicated batteries for ease of use, fancuer finish, extra bumper bouton on top of the trigger like a normal console controller, Index like finger tracking, integrated speakers like the Wii Motes, PS4 and PS5 controllers, detacheable WMR LED rings with Light house compatible addons, basically, expensive, amateur grade controllers to compete with Valve's Knuckles controllers and offer an alternativevto them for inside out tracking and Laptop VR gamers. (And if it is planned, XBox gamers.)
Have printed the 3D gasket, but using ROV Test FOV I only noticed a minor change of maybe 2 degrees increased in FOV. Due to printing tolerances the new gasket falls off rather easily, so handling is cumbersome. So for me the effort did not pay off, I don't know why. Could it be related to small IPD of 58mm? I did not find the ebay link to order another one. Can someone post here.Thanks.
My Reverb G2 arrived just some days ago. And it went from extreme happiness to extreme sadness in minutes. My headset came with corrupted firmware and there is nothing to do, only a replacement. but there are no units for that: more waiting...
Bad first impressions of a very narrow FOV due to the depth of the face gasket, which I think was to accommodate the position of the cable. But going to mod it with thin face pad and velcro as this improves the FOV and sweet spot big time. The controllers feel better than the Q2 though, shame about the massive rings
HAHAHA you are for a nasty surprise, i had like one circle at middle like 30 fov using a gasket. And insane artifacts, you wouldn't believe! After removing gasket, i got normal vision. But FOV is so incredibly small, i don't feel immersed at all!!! I come from Index and i wasn't using even highest FOV, yet i didn't even notice toilet paper like shapes and i was totally immersed! This is so small, you see such a small area, it doesn't feel like you are there at all and it doesn't look even much 3D. It is soooo bad, i don't even... Don't understand why sebastian didn't warn us. He said it is smaller, like about 16 degrees horizontally if i am not mistaken, but he said it is OK. I wasn't using even max FOV on Index, so i thought it will be fine. And he said he didn't see toiler paper shapes i think. I if reviewed it, i would recommend it only to newcomers, as people who had like Index, won't be able to enjoy it at all. It is really really bad! 1/3 - 1/4 of my vertical FOV is ground, there is insane light leakage and this is even worse with frankenmod sebastian said... I don't know what to tell you, it is just awful...
That's some good news right here, thanks a lot for informing us Sebastian! I just got my G2 this weekend and was a bit disappointed by the FOV and sweetspot. It didn't occur to me that this could be due to my head shape. I will definitely have to try out one of these Frankenmods. While I'm already here, I have a question regarding GPU performance: After setting up my headset with Windows Mixed Reality Portal and installing SteamVR and WMR for SteamVR, I launched SteamVR and immediately got massive stutters and soon after it crashed. I tried launching it in different ways and orders but the stutters remained. Sometimes I had to quit SteamVR with the Task Manager because it froze or just showed a blue screen. Then I looked at my GPU and noticed that it is completely maxed-out. I thought this is super weird because I have an RTX 2080 which should handle the G2 fairly well right? I had to reduce the supersampling to about 50% in the SteamVR settings to get a smoother but still not great performance. What could be going wrong? Or is this normal for the G2? Oh and weirdly, being in the WMR Portal Home did not produce those effects at all. I'm getting a bit desperate over here, thanks a lot for your help Sebastian or anyone else!
One thing that helped me was going into the monitor settings as the windows mixed reality software creates three or so virtual screens and disabling those helped my performance greatly
One of the biggest impacts on performance with g2 is antialiasing in games, turn it to low or off, made massive improvement for me with similar setup.also make sure no other programmes are running in background and check the steam supersampling per application in steamvr settings is not set above 100
I paid £27.56 to have this made and sent using makeitquick.co.uk , will let you know how it turns out. Interestingly their online analysis of the files thought your v10 was too thin but your v10.1 was ok, but all I could see in the difference was your 'brand'.
@@jewcookie Hi mate, so got the 3d print today. It has helped, thank you!, I would say it has enlarged the sweet spot from about 20% to about 45-50% of the visibility. I made the mistake of pushing my magnets in a bit further than i perhaps should have so my frame doesn't stick as much as I wanted so I hope others take note, just put the magnets in until they are flush. I have not put flaps around the nose to hide the small amount of light leakage, frankly I prefer it, it is more like the oculus CV1 I had before and allows me to find my keyboard/etc... also I wonder if the little gap allows that little bit more airflow and stops the lenses misting easily, afterall with a smaller gap between your face and the lens, misting can occur more easily. I find having a fan somewhere in the room can make the difference in just stirring the air enough inside the mask to keep it clear. Field of view is a little larger of course, but for me not as beneficial as the enlarged sweet spot, particularly in Flight Simulator where the clarity on controls is noticeable.
Does this mod increase the screen door effect? The distance between the lens and my eyes are my biggest issue with my G2. The adjustability of the OG Vive made the FOV feel so much better than my G2.
How many extra parts does one need to purchase to make this headset viable? It reminds be of the 12 days of Christmas. Gaskets, index controllers, usb dongles, lighthouses, and a partridge in a pear tree. I tried using the Samsung padding that you recommended in another video, but its too big, and does nothing except allow my eyelids to clean the lenses. The 3D printed solution looks better, but I have my doubts. As for lens clarity, I will say with 100% certainty that if your eyes move from center, the image will be fuzzy. This is not an issue with my VIVE, or index. The sound is good though..... Thank god, otherwise we would have another link to click in your buy now section for speakers..
Hey There. I just received my G2 and noticed there is a little clicking sound when I move the headset abruptly. It looks like the lenses are sitting bit loose in the IPD adjuster mechanism. I can actually wiggle those a bit in all directions. I was wondering if I should replace the headset or is it normal.
Would this also help with IPD by chance? I have the slider as far down as it will go, and its just BARELY off. If I could slide it even a half a millimeter lower it would be perfect. Any possivle solutions?
Same for me, and the sweet spot is horrible. If i am not looking absolutely forward, i get terrible blur everywhere. I got 90 degree fov, and 10 degrees of clarity.
MRTV - how is your right earphone, for me and some others there is a loss of sound and a poor connection in certain positions, are you ok when you move it through all the angles? For me it only works pushed back slightly beyond vertical
I don't even bother with these tinny speakers. I have been using an Audio Technica headphone on VR for 10 yrs now, much better sound and completely isolated from outside immersion breaking noises.
@@techinfusions Compared to other VR (except Vive that is similar) they are good. But I consider these like the phones you used to get with a phone purchase. They do the job, but if you want quality you need something better. Also with a dedicated hs you can route them through a sound card. I do it with a haptic unit as well. Of course if you are using it for other than sitting/flight sim, then it is best to stay with the attached unit.
Still waiting for my G2 :( Mod looks great. I came across an old gear VR headset. Would the face padding from this work? Looks the same and already has velcro on it.
I just got mine today. The fov is a joke. Why have such a high resolution if it’s gonna be like looking through pin holes? Coming from the CV1 it looks worse.
@@mixedrealityTV I’m also new to WMR. Since I installed everything and did the WMR download in Steam it killed my Corsair iCue software. It won’t launch anymore. Is there like a known issue with those programs killing other programs?
@@OhItsThat It killed mine also. You have to go to the installation directory of icue and delete everything in the plugin folder. Then it will launch again. I've read this in a yt video comment and it worked fine for me.
@@speedofsilence Yeah I figured it out. Another question. How do you get the mouse to work in games? It seems like sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m yet to be able to turn a lap in Assetto Corsa. If I can’t use the mouse I can’t get in the car to drive. If I do get I the car there’s stuttering when I slightly move my head.
wow, i have absolutely no idea. But if you are in Europe, you should be able to send back anything within 2 weeks, no matter if there is a problem or not.
Anyone with glasses tried this, do they make contact with the lenses? Or is there an alternative that gets closer / bigger fov and still works with glasses?
Does anyone know what material should be used to 3D print it? There are a lot of options when trying to get it printed online. Also, the #D files contain 3 different versions. I am not sure what the differences are between V7, V8, and V9. Does anyone know?
My quest2 lost tracking on both controllers completely after more than a week of usage. I've tried factory reset and manually install v23 but still no fix . Now it's sitting in the dark since RMA is almost impossible for my country due to covid restrictions. Anyway that's the risk we have to take for buying cheap product i guess .
Just got my G2 yesterday. For me, only the very centre of the screen is sharp. It is truly horrible, I have to move my whole head to even a short line of text. I can't believe this wasn't picked up in development. Why is IPD seen as such a big deal... it does pretty much nothing (I suspect marketing-driven development is to blame, as reviewers love to pick on headsets without IPD adjust). It seems to me that eyeball distance to the lens makes a much more dramatic difference to usability. Anyway.. ordered a Odyssey gasket for the Frankenfov mod. Lets see how that goes
You really need to make a video explaining to people that there are no RMA's in stock for people who own a G2. If your G2 breaks down you most likely wont get a new one till March, is what some of us have heard from HP. How does a company launch a product without keeping stock for RMA's, let alone not even fully fulfil all the pre orders before the end of December. This company is leaving a sour taste in my mouth and now I'm looking into doing like others and getting a return letter from HP to give to my reseller here in Canada. No way me or anyone should have to wait till March to maybe get a new G2. If you got a G2, best pray it don't break down, or your in the same boat as a lot of us. MRTV I feel you need to address this complete disorganization that HP have given us with the G2 RMA's. I know you already did a video on how some people still didn't get their pre-orders but this no stock for RMA's thing shows how they tried to rush things and were not ready for launch. They clearly panicked trying to fulfil pre-orders that they either forgot about keeping stock for RMA's or intentionally shipped the RMA's to the pre orders still waiting. Either way, this is a complete disorganization and a slap in the face to their customers.
This doesn't look much use for people with glasses. The vertical space looks to be a little reduced for those who have larger frames and being closer to the lenses can result in lens damage for us, both on our glasses and on the VR headset. This mod isn't for everyone.
Waiting for your video of other g2 headset reviews, cause People seem to get different lenses Sebastian? Something is wrong. Get someone who complain about their sweet spot and try their headset, probably alot of People would like to send theirs or Come qktb their headset for you to try? :)
That's exactly what I will do. Invite someone who complains about lenses to the headquarter. That's why I don't have a full review or yet. Will happen in new year.
I could only find D4x4mm readily available. These are working fine, but I had to slice off the excess 1mm of rim on the holes to get good magnetic connection. Not sure why he went with D4x5mm when that size seems much harder to find.
I ordered these.. cost me less than 3€ www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-20pcs-N52-4X5mm-Super-Strong-Cylinder-Round-Big-Rare-Earth-Neodymium-Magnet/303664619731?hash=item46b3d260d3:g:dSEAAOSwgqpc5e8Z
For me it worked just fine with 4x3mm magnets, which you can find quite easily on Amazon. Depending on the accuracy of your printer, you may need to glue the magnets in place. smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QFP2C48/
Are you joking. I had Index before. Today i setup Reverb G2 and i couldn't be more dismayed: whole screen was like one small funnel, like 45FOV max or something... Yet i saw parts of 2 lenses on both sides of my vision. And yet i saw in middle of my vision edge of a lens WTF? I thought it was at first WMR bug, so i launched Alyx and same. Literally non-existent FOV. Like 800x600 in middle of monitor!!! Yet i 1/3-1/4 of my vertical FOV was ground, while not even looking down. So i removed gasket. And put my eyes closest to the lenses. I don't have even wide IPD, just 65mm. And both of these previous problems were fixed and it become one vision as it is supposed to be. Just FOV was still awful. I had Index and compared to Index, this is non-existent. Opposite of immersive. I still can see 1/3-1/4 of my vision, if not more of ground, while looking into middle. Also horizontal FOV is awful, it doesn't almost look like 3D. And i can see black edges, now without gasket obviously. But i doubt even with frankenmod, i wouldn't see toilet paiper like shapes. As FOV is non-existent. So bad. It is still like looking through binocular, or peeking through hole. Doesn't look natural and opposite of immersive... When i think, returned Index for this... Sure it had huge glare/aliasing/shimmering and was blurred. But at least it was immersive... I don't think my head width is relevant without gasket. And my IPD is only 65mm. I tried all FOV setting didn't help at all! This is just awful, i will be returning it and join waiting queue. I don't understand how did you not mention this. Sure you said it has like 16 less horizontal FOV than Index, but also that it isn't that bad. Maybe for totally new player. At least going from Index, this is total joke. It is like one small dot at middle. Sooo baaaad LMAO... Unless there is something inexplicable, that causes my FOV to shrink, i don't know. It is just so awful! I won't defend you anymore and watch your videos, because this is joke, you didn't say this... If reviewed this. I would say FOV is literally non-existent, that it completely unusable, maybe for new players to test VR for 600$ HAHAHAH...
I'm coming from a valve index. Upgraded to the Reverb G2. Yes the picture is sharper but i am not impressed. The WMR platform sucks big time, also the controlers are feeling like toys compared to the index, even with enough light in the room, tracking is lost. Also the FOV with 69 ipd is very limited. How the hell HP came up with that cable clip!!??. Its popping off every second! ATM Valve Index is still the best headset. MRTV hyped this headset, but its really not that great, i will return it and will go further with the Valve Index
Are people here who actually use this mod with the lenses from VROPTICIAN attached to the fresnels? I just don't believe this addition would still work, i think my eyelashes will still hit the fresnels.
Sebastian, have you addressed this issue to HP? Is there any potential for them to modify this gasket to improve FOV? That’s what we would like to hear...
Anyone has it? I just got my Reverb G2. And default gasket is tiny. I have pressure in my temples, it doesn't even fully fit. It is most useless gasket in history. I had Index and there was no light leakage, even no gap. MRTV still says: there is light leak/gap even with Frankedmod. Does someone has franken mod??? I have IPD 64-65. Do you see still light leak, is it bad??? It is sold out, i don't know, if i will be able to get hands on frankenmod in 13 days. I will have to return it otherwise, as i can't test it currently! And default gasket is just garbage... Right now my HMD is not even detected on Z390, so it seems, i will be returning it probably anyways... MRTV also says: there is even more light leakage with frankenmod. But you could glue flaps into that, how? Will it even hold, what if you want to replace it? Did you test it? I won't keep this based on a theory, if no one tested it, how is light leakage with glued frankenmod, right now it is terrible!
I just want to say the HP reverb G2 has the most UNREAL Visuals EVER BEST EYE CANDY!!! TY HP and Valve. These Lenses and Colors ARE AMAZING!! But your customer service SUCKS and Communication is the worst.
What do you think of this mod?
Just had my claim accepted too
I am glad that my word with HP actually made a difference!!!
@@mixedrealityTV I think it did Sebastian.
in the email they say HP is offering the refund, I wonder if they're rolling it out to all countries
how did you end up contacting them for the £50, did you email them or is there like an official website to write a claim?
I bought the ebay 3D print kit and it works amazing! For $40 you get the gasket itself, foam pre velcro'd, nose piece and magnets. Really improves the FOV and I can really tell a difference. Be careful because if you're too tight your eyelashes and the middle of your head will touch the lenses!

Link please!
Link???
I hope someone starts selling these on Amazon. I love my G2 but I have to tighten it a lot to get a good viewing experience
If you haven't made one yet, hit up ebay. :)
Wooohhoooooo! Great news!
Can you sell me one? Ha
I wish you somehow could get another unit to test with, maybe HP purposely sent you a "final production" unit with incredible lenses for your review? lol.
HP sent him amazing lenses. Every reviewer received already opened boxes because HP cherry picked them.
If the sweet spot can be fixed/made better this VR unit will be amazing
Exactly the same for me. My sweetspot is extremely small. I only tried the CV1 of one of my friends and I really can't say that the G2 is much better in that regard. And as tf22raptor said, it is very distracting during use. Kinda makes me a bit sad, had high expectations for the G2... Really weird that Sebastians lenses are that much better.
Yes, I am also really concerned about people complying about sweetspot. I will invite someone with a regular G2 over to my place to compare!
I've heard some similar things to what you're saying here and it's made me wonder about the quality and immersiveness too
Yet there's always others touting how great the experience is (for themselves at least) so yes $600 is a lot of money!
I planned to buy the G2, I've been using my Rift S since oculus 1st put the S model out and it has not been a let down to me, yet I know better, clearer options are out.
These decisions are always so tough, unless one doesn't care about spending money wisely.
Thanks again for your input jiri!!!
I finished Alyx last night with the Franken Mod and it was probably the best VR game I have every played.
jep. really really nice game.
You have seen the ending! Get ready for the next one!
Such a great game in VR, you need to try No Mans Sky in VR as well if you are into Space Exploration and building games.
Trouble is it's made all the other games look shit in comparison, great game
@@techinfusions I have it also, but Alyx is a made from the ground up VR game. No Man's Sky is not a VR only game though. It is still a good game in VR. I meant VR only games. Most are low resolution crap, which are even worse once you use the G2, lol.
Looks excellent after the FrankenFOV mod!!!! Thank you Sebastian!!
wait wait wait.. how about the magnets?? :))))
Nevermind the face gasket... Can someone please send me the files to 3D print an HP Reverb G2?? :D -South Africa still missing out... :(
yeh i got one, give me ur social for pn
@@AachenCityTitty I could go for that as well!!
Awesome just found it! Thanks for the heads up!
TestHMD (the same app that he uses to measure FOV) has a sweet spot tool also.
Hi, could you link where to buy it ready to go? Many thanks!
I tried using the samller padding like the vr cover in the video with the original gasket, the problem then is that the hmd does not get small enough for my head. So it would need extra padding at the rear of the head strap. With the smaller gasket, even more padding!
It's like HP designed it for massive melon heads.
I don't know whether to be insulted or not given it fits my melon....
You best pray it don't break down on you
They are not even sending them to outstanding pre-orders, they sold all those ones online with next day delivery to whoever wanted them!!!
Get the Valve Index or Oculus Quest with the Elite Strap instead, they're much better vr headsets
Yes, I will invite someone with a G2 over to my headquarter to make sure they didn't send me a unit that is better than others.
My fov and sweetspot is about the same as my rift s which is fine and gets a little bigger with better face plate
Any way to get this printed and shipped to the US?
Hi, thanks for sharing. So I did go for Franken Mod, and I really love it. I can't use only foam mod, since my eyes are too close to the screen and I see wired lens edges.
My question is: why you get wider V than H FOV? Whenever I do test with the same software you do, I get higher H rather than Vertical.
Before Franken mod I had: V 84deg / H 88deg
After mod I get: V 88deg / H 98deg.
Cheers!
I used 18mm Vive pad not 6mm as was recommended elsewhere, still improves FOV and more comfortable. Props to Jewcookie for designing the 3D file
Where can we buy the 3d gasket,m
is there any new professional covers out yet that fixes fov? when i press the default cover harder to my face it looks miles better.
(Fksh eye might be excessive and with deformation, inconsistent, but still, have lenses that increase the 4 little cameras' FOV)
3: That's a mod I want to to to my controllers, I'd like to know if you already tested that, or to see you test that with the G2's controllers, Index like hand thingies so you can open your hands and not have them fall off on the ground, GLock trigger guards to make trigger dicipline easier in games with guns.
Think ill just wait for HP or VR Cover to make a proper product. I hate light leak near the nose so not having nose flaps isnt an option for me.
Yeah imo the fov increase isn't worth the sacrifice of immersion due to light leak from the nose area
You can mod that too diy.

One word my friend. Calliper .Measuring mm's with tape used to measure meters just looks ridiculous :) keep up the good work
All I can do is watching videos.... Preorder in 24.8 Amazon es.
Where do we get the magnets.
HTC Vive foam replacement is no longer offered by VR Cover shop. Could you suggest any replacement?
That's some good news right here, thanks a lot for informing us Sebastian! I just got my G2 this weekend and was a bit disappointed by the FOV and sweetspot. It didn't occur to me that this could be due to my head shape. I will definitely have to try out one of these Frankenmods.
While I'm already here, I have a question regarding GPU performance:
After setting up my headset with Windows Mixed Reality Portal and installing SteamVR and WMR for SteamVR, I launched SteamVR and immediately got massive stutters and soon after it crashed.
I noticed those virtual screens as well, but thought they are just the screens of the headset. I‘ll try turning them off. Thanks Han-Tyumi!
Thanks a lot for the tipps Robert! I‘ll try them out next time.
I had to download an older driver for my 2080 super to get steam to run properly tried other things before that but that worked for me
Anyone know of where to find the 4x5mm N52 magnets to use for the face gasket? Shipping to the USA.
where do you get the magnets
Hi people, v10 is available on my Thingiverse account!
Cool!!
I paid £27.56 to have this made and sent using makeitquick.co.uk , will let you know how it turns out. Interestingly their online analysis of the files thought your v10 was too thin but your v10.1 was ok, but all I could see in the difference was your 'brand'.
@@davidglover1854 Weird. The only thing different is the logo indeed. :)
Thank god, otherwise we would have another link to click in your buy now section for speakers..
what about the magnets?? where do you get the magnets from?
Won't your eyes get superdry because of the heat from the lenses ??
Where i can buy this face mask kit for G2????
Hey There. I just received my G2 and noticed there is a little clicking sound when I move the headset abruptly. It looks like the lenses are sitting bit loose in the IPD adjuster mechanism. I can actually wiggle those a bit in all directions. I was wondering if I should replace the headset or is it normal.
Mine is the same way
Is there an Etsy lens mod like the Vive Cosmos Elite available for the G2?
Unscrew the earpiece clean the copper contacts and then screw it back on, had a similar issue with the G1 but this fixed it completely for my headset.
I don't even bother with these tinny speakers. I have been using an Audio Technica headphone on VR for 10 yrs now, much better sound and completely isolated from outside immersion breaking noises.
@@Shadow__133 The G2 speakers are excellent quality and being off ear they never become uncomfortable.

Cancel while you can.. i waited since august, got it today and i am sending it back. Its a shame
@@mocheford Why are you sending it back, Tracking, Sweet spot, visuals ?
@@mattoomf I missed to 30th due to internet fault, Place order until 1st Nov however began to receive the deliver email from SA for December.
@@stephenwright-unity1 sweet spot. it s a shame.. I am not willing to pay a cent to a cheap fix. I'll wait a year or two.
Whwre to buy the 3d model gasket
Still waiting for my G2 :( Mod looks great. I came across an old gear VR headset. Would the face padding from this work? Looks the same and already has velcro on it.
I have the same concerns. Hopefully someone will reply with their experiences.
Hi MRTV. Is it possible to use a heatgun to adjust the existing gasket instead?
Wow, I have never tried that, no idea!
I just got mine today. The fov is a joke. Why have such a high resolution if it’s gonna be like looking through pin holes? Coming from the CV1 it looks worse.
I measured 14 degrees more of FOV for the G2 as compared to CV1 with my 64mm IPD. You might want to try out one of the mods.
@@mixedrealityTV I’m also new to WMR. Since I installed everything and did the WMR download in Steam it killed my Corsair iCue software. It won’t launch anymore. Is there like a known issue with those programs killing other programs?
Wow, I absolutely don't know about that, sorry.
3D printing and VR is a good thing.
What exactly is the FOV with this?
UP!
This mod only works for the V2 then?
If i have a dead pixel (fully black) on my G2, should i enforce the warranty or this is not enough for the replacement?
wow, i have absolutely no idea. But if you are in Europe, you should be able to send back anything within 2 weeks, no matter if there is a problem or not.
@@mixedrealityTV and what do you think HP and AMD working on this x570 issue?
I have a green dead pixel too. Didn't bother returning, it happens quite frequently and the rma turnaround time scares me.
Anyone with glasses tried this, do they make contact with the lenses? Or is there an alternative that gets closer / bigger fov and still works with glasses?
90 degree FOV, and 10 degrees of clarity.
Does anyone know what material should be used to 3D print it? There are a lot of options when trying to get it printed online. Also, the #D files contain 3 different versions. I am not sure what the differences are between V7, V8, and V9. Does anyone know?
My first option for print material would be PETG, but PLA would be fine. Both will be easy to print and get good results.
Hi, you can print it with PLA. Read the instructions on Thingiverse for the details. V9 is the latest. V10 is almost finished. Test printing it now.
My quest2 lost tracking on both controllers completely after more than a week of usage. I've tried factory reset and manually install v23 but still no fix . Now it's sitting in the dark since RMA is almost impossible for my country due to covid restrictions. Anyway that's the risk we have to take for buying cheap product i guess .
how would this work with prescription lens adapters? would it?
It would!
I don't have a 3d printer how can I order it?
Check ebay for Frankenfov
Can I buy it somewhere?
How much would it cost to print?
Hope someone will sell these, I don't have a 3d printer.
Google 3D printing services
Either way, this is a complete disorganization and a slap in the face to their customers.
think my IPD is just to big.
I just cant read text if i hold it near to my eye. its too blurry.
What's your IPD? I'm 70.5 and concerned of this as well.
@@mixedrealityTV ur a legend mate 👍👊
A Vive wide facial interface is needed as well.
There is a wide version also on thingiverse
in case someone found the 4x5mm N52 magnets anywhere, could you send me a link? i can find plenty of 5x4, just not many 4x5. would 4x4mm also do?
Ebay has them. You need to buy a pack of 50 or something, but it’s under $10
I could only find D4x4mm readily available. These are working fine, but I had to slice off the excess 1mm of rim on the holes to get good magnetic connection. Not sure why he went with D4x5mm when that size seems much harder to find.
I ordered these.. cost me less than 3€

For me it worked just fine with 4x3mm magnets, which you can find quite easily on Amazon. Depending on the accuracy of your printer, you may need to glue the magnets in place. smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QFP2C48/
Hi thank's for share this mod ^^ !!! amazing how many sell it this mod ? .
What ever you 3D print, it can't be better than the actual frankenfov with the VR cover alone, it takes a few Mm more so that much less FOV
Which is more powerful, the Quest 2 or Reverb G2..?
Define powerful.. G2 has a higher resolution and better audio, I guess if you're talking as producing the best image then yes the G2.
Quest 2 sucks
I'm coming from a valve index. Upgraded to the Reverb G2. Yes the picture is sharper but i am not impressed. The WMR platform sucks big time, also the controlers are feeling like toys compared to the index, even with enough light in the room, tracking is lost. Also the FOV with 69 ipd is very limited. How the hell HP came up with that cable clip!!??. Its popping off every second! ATM Valve Index is still the best headset. MRTV hyped this headset, but its really not that great, i will return it and will go further with the Valve Index
Amazing
I’d pay a premium for one with nose blockers and no gap on the nose
Are people here who actually use this mod with the lenses from VROPTICIAN attached to the fresnels? I just don't believe this addition would still work, i think my eyelashes will still hit the fresnels.
Sebastian, have you addressed this issue to HP? Is there any potential for them to modify this gasket to improve FOV? That’s what we would like to hear...
Yes, they are working on other gaskets!!
How is the light leakage with the FRANKENFOV DELUXE?
600 dollars headset; need to 3d print a face gasket and adapt a cover. Not sure what HP was thinking when they made the face gasket

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I don't suppose it would leave room for prescription lenses.

sbasically it doesnt fit lol
I just want to say the HP reverb G2 has the most UNREAL Visuals EVER BEST EYE CANDY!!! TY HP and Valve. These Lenses and Colors ARE AMAZING!! But your customer service SUCKS and Communication is the worst.
