Lots of yummy food. One of my favorite dishes is khao maan gai. Not fancy, but always delicious.

I used to stay on Soi 8 in the early 90s at Mermaids Rest. A great old place, now long gone. I think Monsoon's is now where Mermaids once was. No skytrain either. Everything changes. The few food vendors on Soi 8 were closer to Sukhumvit and some across from Mermaids. The variety of food you show looks as good as ever.

yes this is still a very good soi for street food during the day there are many local thai workers nearby hence good quality and variety and good prices everything changes but I hope the street food stays!

I agree with you. Thais and foreigners love the delicious variety and low price of street food. It's an important part of Thailand. If food carts and vendors are banned from the streets in BKK, where will people go to eat? What will the vendors do for work?

this is a moot point because at the moment there is a big clean up of the streets soi38 has already been lost and many other sidewalks cleared (silom rd for example). I hope they dont go too far. In other capitals, like KL for example, they have created special areas for 'hawker stalls' but street food is a unique feature of thailand.
