These guys are very shy, hence no extra footage at the end I didnt really see much of them up until about two weeks after now they feed out in the open and are very enjoyable to watch, if you missed it I live streamed yesterday here th-cam.com/video/T7V8_XBHRHQ/w-d-xo.html
Marks Shrimp Tanks here’s a question that I’ve never had an answer to. Why do shrimp react so violently to breeding liquids? I see the videos and I don’t see any breeding, just really pissed off shrimp that are highly irritated and popping. Can you explain why they react this way and how it encourages breeding? Seems very stressful.
When I was little, all the rivers in my area and even the small rivers in my area had so many shrimp. (Indonesia, code area/Pos 22983, Batang Natal Country) We used to come home from elementary school, stopped by the river to look for shrimp using our bare hands under the rocks and piles of twigs in the water. the results we got a lot, on average more than 50 shrimp and excess to be eaten by one family, approximately 5 to 15 cm long, the shrimps are big and pretty pretty ... there are red, blue, bluish red or whitish and mostly light brown with some white lines extending from head to tail. with the uniqueness of the bent claws in the male shrimp. but all of that is just sweet memories left in my area. now the shrimp are extinct, not just rare! none have been seen since 2005-2008. the water is already heavily polluted, and most of the shrimp catching is illegal with pesticides. I really miss seeing and holding this shrimp, I even intend to cultivate again if you give me a few breeders, and of course I will pay you. I promise I want to invite people from my area back to look after it. despite the fact now, still the shrimp will certainly not be the same as our former shrimp species and will never be the same as so many shrimp, so large and so many different colors. because, vamvire shrimp now from African and other countries. and the original vamvire shrimp from our river will never come back, forever! 😭😭😭😫
@@MarksShrimpTanks I have trapped saltwater shrimp, they are pretty fast, but I have never seen such an agile specimen. Keep an eye on him, he's the sneaky troublemaking kind!!!
So you finally got some! Nice. You'll love them, they are really interesting to watch. My bet is one of them will probably settle in one the brick's holes. They like to cramp up in spaces like that.
@@MarksShrimpTanks Nice. Do yours seem to cohabit well together? They are supposed to live in groups, but mine happen to be very territorial, and the dominant always chase the other as soon as it gets too close.
I got two for £24 a few months back never seen them in any other store though and wasn’t keen on postage. I think you have more chance of survival buying from a store as water parameters are similar especially if you don’t use r/o water
Hi Mark! Love your videos! They help me so much with my tank hobby. What type of power head are you using and did you do anything special to treat the brick?
@@MarksShrimpTanks Oh not good. Got to keep them well fed then! I wonder if a marine type of food for corals would work as well in feedin g them? Are you going to try and breed them at some point? Hopefully you have a male and female.
Ive had one since April. He loves to hide! Aha But found a nice place in a mess of spiderwood where he feels safe and if always visable. Gets along great with my shrimp, crawfish and nanofish
iv got a few bamboo shrimp that filter feed , I put the return pipe of my filter in the one corner above the water above vertical wood they spend 99% of their time there filtering the flow, they also love the micro pellets i feed the other shrimps
Awesome! I've placed and order for two bamboo shrimps (Atyopsis moluccensis) who are also fan feeders and I should get them in around 2 weeks. Soo looking forward to that.
I've got a vampire shrimp, had him for about a year now so he's/shes a good size now. My question is, ive been looking at getting an African frog but I'm trying to find out if that'll be OK?
hey ive had one of these guys for almost a year and ive never seen them turn any color close to blue do you know why? should i try keeping them hotter? also mine killed a dwarf african frog via kicking it in the face for biting his fans just an interesting side note.
Hi Mark, great video. I saw these just today at my local Pets at Home store. I want some but thought i would research and find out a bit more before i commit. I have a 200L community tank with a male betta, bolivian rams, honey gourami's, 2 schools of tetra (neon and rummy nose) harlequin rasbora, corys and otos. Do you think i should get 1 or 2? How are they colouring up now? What are you feeding them? Thanks
I got one a month ago it’s lives in a 80 gallon frag planted community tank. I have a auqaclear 110 hob and a aqua clear 20 power head on the sponge from the 110. The power heads really just to blow water around my heater. The hob sponge heater are all behind a H shape Malaysian drift wood log and a bunch of different stem plants. But on the under side of the H there’s a hole you can stick your hand in side vertical the turn your fingers in to a cave. In the month that I had it I only seen it three times! Twice of the reflection of the side of the tank. The other day hanging out under we’re the hob comes down at just chilling eating. It sucks it’s the koolest thing in my tank and it’s my centerpiece but it & all my other kool stuff I never see🤦 But I will tell you what tho man it’s does it’s job that’s for dam sure! For feeding him in stead of dropping algae wafers in I think I’m going to put a few in a water bottle till they dissolve and pour it in 🤙
just set up a new 46l tank (36l of water) for crystal shrimps, using akadama and bacteria 100 and clay as multiple layers and have lava rock and filter media underneath it and also sponge on top to stop akadama crumbling and also using a undergravel filter but not conected to anything just make the water flow better underneath, canister filter is a fluval 106 and 2 year old so should be fine to seed, been setup a week, been doing 25% water changes every 3 days, is this the correct method, waiting for it to stabilise which should be in a few weeks, just wanting your opinion if this is a good setup and am i doing the right thing. thanks in advance.
@@MarksShrimpTanks i have at the bottom of the tank a undergravel filter that is 2 inches high so underneath is just water, on top of that i have in this order from the bottom, zeolite, ammonia removing stones, lava rock (about 3 inches), then course sponge, then about 3 inches of akadama on top, each layer has a good sprinkling of bacter 100 and clay mud, i also have loads of moss and bogwood and cholla in the tank for biofilm and have moss balls and dwarf hairgrass at the back of the tank, ive made a higher layer step at the back of the tank using slate, the whole tank is filtered by my fluval 106 and that has loads of media and wool in it, wools changed every month.
Have you figured out how to feed them properly? Heard they won't get enough food by only putting it in the water, but I can't feed them 3 times a day and unfortunately I've no idea where exactly they are in my tank.. Hope they don't starve..

Your vamps are so tiny,i really hope you get some success breeding them,I love how you’ve used bricks in your tank, the holes are perfect for shrimp,I’m going to have to keep my eye out for some of those bricks now
yeah I lost mine not to long after the video, I didnt know this at the time but they are all wild caught if I knew that from the beginning I wouldn't have gotten them.
I’m not speaking from experience though. When I did have a crayfish, it didn’t attack any of my other fish though from what I now know I was extremely lucky. Turns out my little buddy was just a pacifist... or I suppose, a paciclaw.
Do you quarantine your Shrimps? Did you mixed your Shrimps into one tank? The new Shrimps are beautiful, no doubt. Thank you for sharing! Enjoyed watching!
Marks Shrimp Tanks So you haven’t learned the lesson of quarantining your fish and shrimp yet? I hope you don’t learn the hard way. I trust no one. I don’t even throw strangers water into my tank, when I purchase Aquatic pets. I even clean the moisture off the bag to aclimate the new animals, then I adjust temperature to the bag. Then I throw in the animals into a net into a bucket. Quarantine should be about 30 days. I even keep separate nets for my tanks. Good luck dude!
Marks Shrimp Tanks no they don’t, mine also seem to avoid the water flow and stick to the bottom disturbing the media and filter feeding off that, one also climbed out up a subwassertang rope I made like yours and committed suicide, couple of bamboo shrimp have done this too so I have to cover the top now
Monster shrimp? LOL. I have 9 fresh water shrimps almost 4 inches long (just about the size of the shrimps we eat), and they are Zircon green in color. Do they count as monsters?
I think the "Vampire" part is because they're noctural. Also are only caught in the wild in Africa to my knowledge. I believe we haven't figured out how to breed them in captivity yet.
