Vampire shrimp

Here is another video of our vampire shrimp.
I love how it changed color to blue. It likes to hide behind the sponge filter and in the coconut hut but once in a while it explores the aquarium. We love watching her/him.

Thanks for sharing. I bought two bamboo shrimp this week. In my mind they would spend all of their time on top of a rock pile waving their fans. I have yet to see that behavior. They spend most of the time hiding out. I keep them in a 55 gallon planted tank with plecos, guppies, shrimp and some mystery snails.

Have you seen your plecos fighting/chasing them? I notice it now and then and it's quite comical - the vampire shrimp stand their ground and the pleco hates it xD

Is your vampire shrimp a male or a female?

Might need to feed it more powder food or brine shrimp so that it doesn't scavenge on the floor.

I believe I read that they spend about 25% of the time feeding off of the floor. So I just think this was one of those times. They don’t exclusively filter feed.

@@bricarbajal8069 I can relate to your point as I’ve got 4 bamboo shrimp and 2 armoured shrimp and they often chose a method best suited to them.

@@merchantotin6266 Yes, even with enough stream and powder food in the tank, they still scavenge on the floor from time to time. Atyopsis moluccensis (other fan shrimps) don‘t do this.
