Snow troopers weren’t originally thought up of by the Empire, snow variant clone troopers existed before them and they also look pretty similar to the galactic marine clones. Also, I think you could also say that the scout trooper armor was based off of the clone ARF troopers

Also Clone snow troopers have two phases, the first one was a hybrid of Phase I mixed with snow armour while Phase II is the Galactic Marine Corp, exactly the same armour as the Imperial but have more equipment and colours.
Welp scoot clone troopers exist, and scoot stormtrooopers are inspired from this one, like the armors of the 41st elit corps soldiers. If you put their green armors in white, its almost identical to the scoot trooper armor, and like the scoot troopers, 41st were specialized in recognition and intervention in hostile territory.

As a star wars fan it hurts to try to justify in your head that the stormtrooper armor was supposed to be an advancement of phase 1 and 2 when its obviously props from the 80's vs 2000's CGI armor
Since Star Wars was released in 1977, stormtroopers were designed with the technology of that time. If George Lucas had waited another 10 years for technology to develop, we would be talking about a different stormtrooper armor design today.
I hope one day we get to see stormtroopers live up to their description of elite and ruthless soldiers instead of the mediocre lousy shots they're portrayed as
phase 1 clone armor was also heavy and hard to move in, but offered better protection against blasters, phase 2 was lighter but slightly less protected, thats why captain Rex modified his phase 2 armor and welded in phase 1 chest plate and visior in his armor
I really do like the modded Storm Trooper armor at 4:17, not only do they look unique but they have that post-apocalyptic aesthetic that makes these variants look badass. The great coat Storm Trooper with the RT-97C's gotta be my favorite. It's a stark contrast from the Galactic Empire era when everything has to be standardized and uniformed ofc, but it's like they sorta went back to the Republic era when Clone Trooper units had their own uniform design and coloring (similar like the South Vietnamese Ranger units).

I think the reason why they created weaker armor is because the biggest threat of the galaxy, the CIS, has been defeated and only clones could handle, thus making them useless for other jobs except officers and guards Plus Palpatine did not expect such strong plot armor and power of hope in rebellion army, because they were less powerful than Separatists and than Grand Army of Republic, because of their trainings and mandalorian skills of combat
I actually like the decision to make the OT stormtrooper to be actually its phase 2, even though it felt like a downgrade, like smaller helmet visor for example before it got fixed by phase 3 for 1st order
The funny part is, according to cosplayers who actually wear the movie accurate armor, they say the stormtrooper helmet has more visibility than the clone helmets, quite ironic

They were basically the backbone of the imperial military but we're not considered as much by their superiors mainly due to their lack of training and significance within the military. While stormtroopers were considered a more elite unit that was more trained and more specialized for combat, as well as having a significant place within the empire. Because these troops were more expendable throughout the empire, they were given some of the most dangerous missions that the empire would find. This can all be shown during the Mimban scene in Solo. Imperial Army troops also assisted regular stormtroopers if necessary as seen in the battle of endor and the riot in rix road in Andor.
I get that its a meme and an ongoing joke, but stormtroopers are far from inaccurate, sure the Clone's were more accurate, but they were also genetically modified and bred for war. If people knew how much ammo was spent in real life vs how many hit's are made they'd be shocked, again the better trained you are the more accurate and likely you are to hit your target, but stormtroopers do quite amazing against rebels without plot armor.

Out of all the armor designs I think the Old Republic one is my favorite.
Im pretty sure mud troopers were the empires main infantry and the stormtroopers were actually a special forces and this was shown in the film solo
