Renting video games was mentioned in this video. Miss the days when you could go to movie store and rent video games. The excitement of it being the weekend and knowing you'll be browsing the gaming section a bit was pure awesomeness.
TommyGun Well you can still do it for new console too like xbox 360, ps3, ps4 xbox one , wii, switch, there are plenty of store here in Canada that still do it and it is cheap, like 5$ for 3 days or 7days
A Link to the Past is not only one of the finest crafted games in the zelda series, but one of the most well crafted games of all time! Everything about it is perfect, the music, the atmosphere, the memories, the nostalgia, the difficulty, the dungeons, the gameplay & story. The other day some guy told me ALttP is a bad game...that made me laugh really hard Lol
It was 1993 the first year I ever played a link to the past. My cousin brought the game over and we didn't undestand it either. We were both around 7 or 8 years old and we just went with the punches and eventually figured it out. The game became our youth and best summer memory. We played alttp and mario kart endlessly that summer of 93. Snes will always be my main console!!
Johnny I loved this episode, this is far better than any "retrospective" series I have seen on Zelda, your memories and enthusiasm along with Rob's really made this something special.
Not gunna lie, this is the first video i've ever seen on this channel and i love it! Showed up on 'what you might like' or whatever its called, love it, i'm now subscribed!
It's funny i feel the same way about ocarina of time, I loved that game so much i finished it like 5 times, I could play the whole game under a day. Sometimes I feel like those kind of experiences are what made my childhood.
I love the way you guys tell your stories about how excited you were, how you got those games, how you used to with your friends etc... We really feel your nostalgia!
Seriously man, keep the videos coming. These bring back so many nostalgic memories of not only Zelda games, but all the other classic games and how we first played them. Really good memories! =D
Love the dynamic you two have going. It's one of the things that makes this show stand out from many of the other great gaming shows on TH-cam. This is one of the few legendary gaming series that I've never played. I like the look of the original title and the one on the SNES looks really cool too. I think I'll have to scour eBay to pick up a copy of each IF I can find them at an affordable price. It's definitely a big IF from what I've seen so far.
i swear your videos take a long time to come up but it is worth is your production value on your videos are through the roof. Take all the time in the world to make your videos because they are amazing keep up the good work. I also love you guys personalities. When i called on agg special, i felt like i was talking to one of my friends. you guys are so down to earth YOU ROCK!!!!
Dude your videos are in a new level! Are awesome and the photo about link was the first look of the catacter until i play link adventure 2. So have a good one.
A friend of mine gave me the gba port of A Link to the Past for about a month or so in the sixth grade and that was all I cared about. My eyes were glued to that tiny screen and I managed to 100% it not even a week before I had to give it back.
A fantastic episode you guys. Your dynamic duo on the show and the enthusiasm and knowledge you guys bring to the table is irreplaceable. I love it. Keep up the great work you guys. Also, Rob, it was awesome to hear you on the OKS podcast. A lot of great insight about Capcom and MML 3. Well done, man.
I just discovered your videos today, it was in my suggested section. Im glad it was! I really enjoy them. The first one I seen was the "Sega Rocks!" video, which I totally agreed with and clicked accordingly!
This is classic! You dont hear people talk much about the classic Zeldas anymore. Such a great series back then. I'm not too much into the new ones but the older ones are some of my favorite games of ALL TIME, A Link to the Past being my favorite!...So many memories!...Great video!
Thanks so much for another episode. I know you can get real busy but i love every time i see your videos pop up in my subscription box. I'd watch you 7 days a week if you could produce that much, but i know how difficult it is to make these and be this entertaining. Thanks again and hope to see more.
Great video guys. My fave Zelda game has to be Link to the Past. I remember playing it a friends house and being blown away by the top down style of gameplay. LOVE IT! Thanks again
I think link to the past is my favorite too. I mean, there's so many epic, awesome zelda games, like the first one, ocarina, and link's awakening (everyon seems to forget that one) but LttP brings back so many good memorysof just good times, and playing it all day, over and over, even to the point of playing it from start to finish in 1 sitting over and over, or just exploring, looking at the cool game art, reading the old NP player's guide with the epic art in it... ahhh, it's just perfect.
I love your like nostalgic stories :D its amazing like it makes me wanna go back in time and do that it sounds so much fun to go to someones house and play video games like now a days lots of kids have ps3 or 360 but it sounds so amazing to here how you guys plaid games ^^. I always look forward and love your videos :D
Man the memories I had the same experiance, playing my Vic 20 really happy thinking it was the bee's knees then a lucky friend gets bought the original NES and wow the step up in game quality was amazing. Happy happy memmories.
Zelda, what an amazing franchise. look at all the memories it brought to us, oh the days, the beautiful days.....may zelda go on forever and continues to bring us Masterpieces like Skyward Sword, Majora's Mask, Ocarina of Time, A Link to the past, link's Awakening, ect,
Had a Sega as a kid so it was Y's for me that created similar memories. Haven't seriously spent much time at all with the Zelda games but I think I might just go and pick some of them up after watching your enthusiastic trip down memory lane. Even the older ones look like they'd still be an enjoyable adventure today.
Excellent special. Definitely the best series of all time in my book and I have to agree with Johnny, the first is my favorite. Thanks for the look back on the series and your memories with it.
The one thing I love about Rob & Johnny is the fact they remember these memories so vividly like it happened yesterday. Like I recall memories like getting the Master System on my 7th birthday and playing Alex Kidd etc but not as detailed as they go with it. I love the Zelda series and A Link to the past like Rob is my favourite Zelda and my favourite game of all time. I can easily go back to it again and again and never get bored.
I recently picked up a very rare Zelda game from a guy who works at Nintendo of North America: Zelda Twilight Princess, the limited edition online Japanese version for the Gamecube... UNOPENED. it was never sold in stores, and to find it unopened was a huge find!
I wish you did talk about all of the Zelda games and just made more parts. But this still brought a smile to my face and I enjoyed every 13:46 of this video.
Zelda 1 link is the best, i keep to this very day doing drawings of him, so fucking amazing memories of the legend! I thank god for given me the opportunity in life to have lived the nintendo 8 bit era, the NES was the machine of dreams. I keep all the games like gold. Very nice videos Johnny and robman, keep the awesome work up!
Great zelda video, johnny!!! The first time I saw zelda was at a sears kiosk the holidays season it cames out. Youngsters might not know this, but in 1986 zelda was billed as "the never ending game". a game so complex that it was impossible to beat. Interesting history note, in 1989 the first nintendo power magazine came out with the selling point that it had the first published world map of zelda so you could now find all the dungeons under the "link" second quest!
Seeing the gold Zelda cart and watching my cousin play it in her basement one Thanksgiving is my earliest video game memory. It was a hard game to wrap your head around as a really young kid for sure.
I love the original Zelda art. I am partial to all the tiny drawings of Link like the one of him drinking from a bottle. The art in the LttP player's guide is just fantastic as well. Absolutely love it. Zelda II is one of my favourite Zelda games but damned it's hard. I never got past Ganon's temple. Just gave up there. Great episode!
I also think of the rain when I remember A Link to the Past. The first part of the game really established the atmosphere and caught a lot of people's attention, I think.
Zelda is my most hardest and hardest games I’ve ever played on hard but very enjoyable and I have pretty much every hour of been bored out of my pay from the 90s
i love the legend of zelda, I pulled the wii out of my closet where it had resided for probably 3 years just to beat skyward sword in 3 days. Zelda is so nostalgic, even when playing the new installments!
Really glad you guys did a special on Zelda, it's my favorite video game series. While I am partial to Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past holds a special place for me as it was the first one I ever played. Third would probably be Majora's Mask or Twilight Princess. Speaking of which, I still need to beat Zelda II...
I have two copies of A Link To The Past, the original and the snes version of the greatest hits re-release. I also have Zelda and Zelda 2 in the gold cartridges....
sheer enthusiasm, you guys are crazy lol.eh for my part i never got to play the NES Zelda games.my first Zelda experience was Link to the Past, and i remember the intro too.i remember trying to slash that barrier at the castle, wanting to get in.and at that time,i owned a super nintendo i believe but i rented the game a few times trying to beat it.it's still one of my favorite SNES game to this day.oh and i also loved going through manuals as a kid too
Awesome video, I really need to find a copy of link to the past and beat it. I also need to get back to the first two zelda games and finally finish them lol.
Loved Zelda 1 and 2. They introduced us to what action RPGs could be. Up until this point the only adventures I played were text based on the C64. But boy was I hooked and this is still my favorite genre. I would have to name WindWaker as my favorite - what a sense of adventure!
The very first Zelda game was Link's Awakening on the Game Boy. Then I played A Link to the Past on SNES. I have many a great memories with both games. Great video guys. Keep up the good work with the podcast.
Zelda 2 was the first Nintendo game I ever saw. When my parents bought one it was one of the 3 original games the got with it. I liked it even though as a kid I really didn't understand it, My dad got into it too and almost beat it until one of my friends at the time erased all his work and he never played it again. I couldn't beat the game without cheating until I was about 19 and when I did man It was the best feeling ever. I even took a picture of the final screen to remember it.
Great Review guys! Thats why HCG reviews are so good, I love hearing the memories! those are the best parts of your reviews, keep up the great work :) Dan.
Love Legend of Zelda. I remember my first time playing it at a friend's house. Had no idea what I was supposed to do and just wandered the map killing monsters till I died. Unfortunately I wouldn't get a lot of experience with Zelda (we didn't an NES till '90 or so and Zelda was kinda hard to find by then) till Link's Awakening for the GB and ALttP for SNES. Those two games really brought me into the franchise. And it has been my favorite gaming franchise since.
I don't think I was old enough to be blown away by the original Zelda, even though I did own an Atari 2600 before my NES... It was when I first played ALTTP that my mind was blown.
Renting video games was mentioned in this video. Miss the days when you could go to movie store and rent video games. The excitement of it being the weekend and knowing you'll be browsing the gaming section a bit was pure awesomeness.

Kinaldio Ikr the best Zelda games were for the cd-i everyone knows that.
+Supercalifragilistic expialidocious
We don't talk about the CDI games. Never speak of them again.
The friendship between you two is so awesome :)
Johnny I loved this episode, this is far better than any "retrospective" series I have seen on Zelda, your memories and enthusiasm along with Rob's really made this something special.
A Link to the past is sooooooo good. Thank you for this retrospective! A+ work, guys
Holy crap a 9-year-old Game Chasers comment, from before they were so famous! @_@

a link to the past is, and always will be my favourite game of all time... i love that game
Link's Awakening is my favorite in the Zelda series:D Cool video about the some of the older Zelda games. 25 years, that's insane to think about@_@
This is the kind of video I'm looking for in the TH-cam gaming community.
My fav Zelda game is a Link to the Past as well and I would go so far to say it is a perfect game... One of the very few!
Good episode guys!
I also think of the rain when I remember A Link to the Past. The first part of the game really established the atmosphere and caught a lot of people's attention, I think.
When I first played link to the past I played it on the Game Boy advance in that game was awesome

i love the legend of zelda, I pulled the wii out of my closet where it had resided for probably 3 years just to beat skyward sword in 3 days. Zelda is so nostalgic, even when playing the new installments!

Great vid!
For me, the greatest is Link's Awakening. And you can bring it with you!
I have very fond memories of playing the original Zelda on NES with my Dad. To this day it's the only video game he ever got into!
Thats why HCG reviews are so good, I love hearing the memories! those are the best parts of your reviews, keep up the great work :)
Dan.
a link to the past was my first zelda, it took me years to finally beat it
Love Legend of Zelda. I remember my first time playing it at a friend's house. Had no idea what I was supposed to do and just wandered the map killing monsters till I died.
