      I have one of these T5 5 speed trans in a 92 Camaro ,
      But I want to put it in my 66 Chevelle , the Chevelle has a small block LT1 350 with 375hp ,

    Just watched all 3 parts....very informative. I have a 200K mile T5 behind a (estimated) 450HP 2.5 stroker in an 88 Thunderbird Turbocoupe that needs syncros for the 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift. These videos give me a better understanding of how they work and what has happened to cause them to go bad. Thanks for the videos!

    Awesome job sharing your knowledge on this T-5 buildup and making an excellent series! I never realized how sophisticated this transmission is as I am a back yard DIYer and have only dabbled on Muncies and Borg Warners. The tips on the procedures you employ are absolutely astonishing, as your explanations are very articulate and detailed. Thanks for posting the ratios in this gear box. Ross

    I keep waiting and hoping for the day when you show a (Mustang or similar) T5 being (properly) fitted with an S10 tailshaft housing. I'm sure there are hundreds of other guys out there just like me. For some of us building mini-trucks with Mustang/Thunderbird drivetrains but still need our shifter a lot further forward. Budget guys that pay under $300 for a used T5 and want to buy a rebuild kit and learn the process using your videos. Until that day, THANKS for these videos. Very well done and VERY informative!

    There are companies that do sell tail shaft bushings that are to size, instead of it being a full 360° bearing it’s split like a lot of modern cam bearings and will slide right in and takes up all the slack, may not be super true, but better that .030 runout

    I like your videos, they are valuable information, I am in Mexico, I have a 1998 v6 mustang (3.8) and I would like you to help me, I had a problem with my T5 tremec transmission, three teeth on the 4th speed control shaft broke , my question is as follows: -Can I put a command arrow for another number of teeth? Mine uses 23 and I have not got it, I can put a 24 tooth or an arrow from a ford pickup 199a - 199f they have the same number of teeth as the cluch, but will the radio ratio affect me? It's compatible ? Can I put another arrow on it? I don't want to race or anything for now, I just want to have my mustang walking again. I hope you can help me, I would really appreciate it.

    Hello Paul. I am building a T5 that supposedly came out of a 99 V6 Mustang. I want to mount it to my 350 SBC. The kit I bought came with a new input shaft but it is a little shorter than the one in the transmission. I am planning on using a stock GM bellhousing with an adapter to correct the angle. Do you know what the correct length for the input shaft should be? Or is there a method to figure it out?
    I have come up short with a google search maybe due to incorrect wording.

    Hey Paul. Love the videos. You give great information and its very easy to follow. I have a problem with my 90 mustang T-5. Trans was rebuild years ago because it was popping out of 2nd. I have maybe 5,000 on the rebuild. Trans shifts great nice and smooth no noise. Eveythings nice except it gets stuck in reverse. It goes into reverse fine but its to the point now it gets stuck 75% of the time. Have you ever encountered this ? I've replace the clutch and adjusted it. I replaced the shifter and the clutch cable. It doesn't matter if the cars on/off it doesn't come out. I have to unbolt the shifter get a small prybar under the shift rod and big punch in the pivot hole then just pry and wiggle with some pressure. Any help would be great.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m looking at using a t-5 from a 99-04 mustang in my 91 mustang. I know the tail shaft housing is set up for an electronic speedo, and there is an altogether different type of gear on the tail shaft to signal the sensor(reluctor gear?), but is the tail shaft machined for a conventional speedo drive gear? Could I simply swap tail shaft housings from my fox body onto the later model transmission, add the gear and be good to go? Basically, I’m not sure if there is a difference in the tail shaft itself.

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You swap the tail and drill a hole for the standard speedo drive gear spring clip. You need a DIE DRILL BIT to do this. 3/16 diameter.

    Thanks Paul, this is an EXCELLENT series of videos on the T5. I'm ordering your book as well, as I have a road-race car with a WC T5 behind a 2.3 liter Duratec 4.
    It should make a little over 300hp when complete, and weigh around 1,800#, and I'm VERY interested in the close-ratio straight-cut dog-ring gearset you showed in part 1 of this series.
    I already have the bellhousing, a Powertrain Technology 5.5" dual disk clutch, and it has the 10-spline input shaft.
    I understand the limitations of the T5 platform, but I'd like to know if you still supply this setup, what is the cost, and what if any case mods are required to install it.

    Nice job explaining the T5. I want to put one in my current build ('67 F100) behind the Original (rebuilt) 352 FE engine. I think a World Class will hold up to the power/torque of this set up just fine. I think I'll be at about 325 HP/350 ftlbs of torque. You spoke of the different tail housings and also the input shaft splines, etc. I would need a set up for this engine and the short, maybe the S10, tail housing to keep the shifter well enough in front of the bench seat in the truck. For the splines - I think they were 10 spline count and would need the shorter input shaft??? Can I find a used T5 with these options? Would the S10 unit work if I could find one? Thanks again for all your hard work on these videos; they help so many people and I know first hand what it takes to produce good videos. ;) Take care, Clay

It looked like all of the clutch material just came off at once. I replaced that clutch with a Mcloud clutch. It was very chattery. I then had problems with slave and master. I replaced the slave and upgraded the master to the Tick performance one. At the same time the clutch and flywheel were replaced. I think the brand was Spec. Break in period went fine. I've only put about 1500 miles on it. Took the car in for it's year inspection and oil change. (only driven in the summer) asked my mechanic to check a squeak when I depress the clutch peddle. He told me when re removed the inspection cover it was full of clutch material and I needed a new clutch. This is my second 3rd gen Firebird with a T5 and the first one I had didn't have and clutch eating issues. I was younger then and not as easy on that car or it's clutch. Hey. I have couple of questions to professional gear box guy. What may cause whining noise to t5, bad bearing or low/wrong oil? Otherwise transmission works fine, no grind noises and shift smooth. Also what might cause rebuilt t5 get stuck when down shifting from fourth to third, it works perfectly othervise. Also is the European T5 same as US T5?

    • @GearBoxVideo
      @GearBoxVideo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Low oil level this worn gears. Worn 3-4 rings that have low height on the gear cone cause the keys to pop out thus stuck in gear. Euro t5 is world class 2.95 ratio. Input and out splines are different.

    • @TunturiBreak95
      @TunturiBreak95 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the rebuilt is done badly or bad parts, so is it worth to buy? I am planning to buy Cosworth Sierra and the car has the whining box installed and the rebuilt transmission may come to the deal. Just asking the pro because it seems that nobody knows anything about the gearbox here in Finland :D

    I have a 72 Skylark that I want to put a 327/ Quadrajet carb, a T5 (rebuild one myself) and the rear end is a 2.93. My goal is to get 25 mpg while still having a fun time by having a manual transmission. Do you think the T5 would be suitable for this?

    • @davidmiller9485
      @davidmiller9485 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      so let me start off by saying i had a 70 chevy super camper with a 327 (early model from a vet that i rebuilt from the junk yard) and you might get that... but it going to depend on the cam... well lets just call it "internals" and how you drive. A standard used to give you better gas mileage but these days with computers leaning and enriching the motor, a modern automatic will do better. My point here is that it's really going to be hard to say what your gas mileage is because their are way to many variables. I would say if you get 20 highway you should be happy. it's a heavy car with a small v8 so i wouldn't get to hopeful for 25, but like i said their are so many variables that you might actually get close if you get just the right setup and internals in the motor (and rear end since gearing is going to help with this).
