    I thoroughly enjoyed Nina's talk and will be buying portable white boards to keep in the car to encourage my children to express their emotions in a productive way.

    • @ninameehan533
      @ninameehan533 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES!! I hope the white boards have proven helpful, or, at the very least, amusing for all of you!

    Giving yourself permission to randomly scribble away your anger is wonderful. thanks Nina for that helpful strategy.

      It can prove very useful if you get stuck on a really frustrating zoom meeting...lol! I keep a notepad and markers near my computer at all times!

    I think people forget that creativity comes in all forms. It's not just about painting or sculpting or "art" but about how you approach any kind of task really

    • @ninameehan533
      @ninameehan533 ปีที่แล้ว

      100% Agree. Building a budget can be a creative act. Getting ready for your day can be a creative act. It does not have to be a traditional "Art" form at all.

    oh my yes, the part about how it helps us be present I could not agree more.

    Finding creative outlets has been a game-changer for me when it comes to my overall wellbeing. Not only do these activities bring me joy and a sense of accomplishment, but they also allow me to tap into my imagination and think outside the box. It's a great way for me to escape the stresses of everyday life and find some much-needed relaxation and rejuvenation

    • @ninameehan533
      @ninameehan533 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Creative activities can unlock parts of ourselves that we need to thrive.

  • @zackpinonet

    I honestly don't know what I would do without my creative outlets, it's the only way I know how to de-stress and ground myself.

    • @ninameehan533
      @ninameehan533 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too!!! I'm so glad you have those outlets and I hope more people can find the outlets that speak to them.

    I rather like the idea of "creative gazing". I walk to and from my workplace and am mostly on auto pilot, running late again. I intend to try Nina's suggestion.

      It can really change the way you look at the world. Start easy...choose one color to notice or just look for where the light meets the shadows.

    This is a really valuable skill, you can call on your creative self for all kinds of things, not just therapeutic arts and crafts

    • @ninameehan533
      @ninameehan533 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely agree! Creative acts come in ALL flavors. My father is an engineer who built robots before anyone else was doing that...creativity is at the heart of innovation, great thinking and compassionate problem solving.

    Thanks for sharing your daughter's story about her pet rock project. The need for it to be "perfect" is something I can relate to. That's why my knitting basked is filled with unfinished projects.

    • @ninameehan533
      @ninameehan533 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, perfect is a trap that all of us fall into sometimes. No matter what, the unfinished knitting projects are a sign that you are making space for creativity in your life, so make sure you celebrate that, even if they are "unfinished." Maybe they were never supposed to be anything be exactly how they are??

    Nina strategy to help her son express his anger [3:10] by drawing it is gold. "Manifest" fans can vouch for the power of drawings in that series.

    As someone who has always considered themselves creative it wasn't until I actively started pursuing my passions that I began to feel truly happy and fulfilled. It's much too easy not to prioritise!

    I know she only just mentioned it briefly but there's actually been studies that suggest cave paintings were used to tell stories! That's why so many of them have the lines through it, because when there's fire flickering away underneath the lines give motion to the pictures. How cool is that??? So yes, creativity has been a part of us since the very beginning!

  • @ihavecoolthings
    @ihavecoolthings ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This talk is really wonderful Nina, especially when you talk about 'the fear' and how it's always with you no matter how much art you create. Not a lot of professional artists are keen to talk about that and I think it really deters those who are just beginning.

    • @ninameehan533
      @ninameehan533 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fear thing is SOOOO real!! Everyone feels it and no one talks about it. I'm on a mission to change that because you can feel it and make friends with it!

    This is such an important way of getting in touch not just with our creative selves but with our child selves... I think there's a huge link between when we stop playing around and making art for the sake of it and when we start "growing up"
