Gigabyte RTX 2080 SUPER OC WHITE black screen crash 100% fan speed

  • UPDATE: I had to RMA the card. There was a faulty part, and I'm not sure what it was. The portal on Gigabyte's support site was awful and cut off half the description of what they fixed. If you have this problem and you're under warranty, please start the RMA process ASAP - it took over a month for me to ship it out and get it back. Feel free to link this video when submitting your RMA.
    Quick correction: PSU is actually 850w, not 1000w.
    Documenting Gigabyte RTX 2080 SUPER WHITE OC 8GB Crash to black screen with 100% fan speed for gigabyte esupport. Hopefully this is helpful to anyone else experiencing the same issue.
    To add more detail to troubleshooting:
    - All drivers, when tested, were installed AFTER running DDU in safe mode with no internet connection.
    - Complete reset of Windows was performed after initial rollback of driver.
    - Issue started on driver release 471.96
    - Driver updated to 472.12, issue persisted
    - Modifying fan curve with MSI Afterburner to have fan speed default higher seems to help the stress test last longer, but it still crashes (and sometimes crashes instantly regardless)
    - Card has been swapped to secondary PCI-e slot
    - Crash has been tested with 2 different monitors, both on different DP cables, and once on HDMI (again, no converters)
    - Computer will remain in crashed state until manually powered down.

    With the error, the graphics card is 100% broken. Me and many, many others on various forums are having the exact same issue with the RTX3090/80. The only thing that really helped was RMA and a new card. I operated the card on a 1600W power supply, I hardly think that the card got too few watts. The bug is too well known.

      If you buy a card for $2000/€ whatever and you have to put a piece of white plastic between the heatsink and the power connector for it to work isn't really an option.😅
      But I'm still happy for you that it worked for you.👌

    there are sense pins on the 8 pin PCIE . These sense pins should be connected to Ground at all times. You will have this problem the moment they loose connections to ground. So check your Power supply and 8 PIN PCIE cable with a multi meter for continuity.

    SOLVED (for me): I'm very excited to share this!! Had the exact same issue with my Gainward Phoenix 3080 10GB V1 (2021) recently (again! last time it happened was 10 months ago and fixed itself with no explanation *I reckon it's summer so it got hotter so it keeps happening again). While gaming, or stressed test, I would monitor my GPU temp and right about when it would hit 68c, the display shuts off and the GPU fans go full speed. Then I would have to do a hard reboot to make it run again.
    So to play my games on it, I had to UNDERVOLT until it becomes stable and doesn't crash on me anymore (lesser performance, but it works).
    I thought it was a PSU issue (based on comments), so I bought and upgraded from a 750w to 850w. After installation, stress-test (Furmark), BAM! SAME ISSUE!
    I was so ready to give up, but then one of my mates had the smart idea to try and UPDATE the BIOS (I've never done it before, first expensive GPU with this issue). I was like, what am I gonna have to lose? Scared to brick it, but did it anyway. Luckily NVFlash would reject the update if it doesn't match. (BIOS updated from a 2020 BIOS to a new 2021 version)
    I couldn't find any BIOS from GAINWARD's website, so he went and found it through TECH POWERUP's BIOS library website and installed it through NVFlash. We tried 3 different BIOS and all were rejected as it didn't match, the lucky 4th one worked! So update BIOS worked and then restarted, ran FURMARK, and I noticed 2 things right away. 1, the temp climb was slower. 2, it peaked only at 63c and NEVER CRASHED ONCE! INSTANT FIX!
    WOW! UPDATE BIOS did it for me! Hope this helps another person who's about to give up. I'm sure hell was, I've read all the posts, all the suggestions, all the videos but to no real solution. This is it guys! Good luck!
    DISCLAIMER: I am not liable for any bricked GPUs, I TOOK A RISK and it worked

      I've replied to a couple other people here, but honestly, if you can, swap your GPU into someone else's rig and see if it still happens. If it does, just start the RMA process through your card manufacturer ASAP. For me, through Gigabyte, it took a full month between sending it out and getting it back.
      If it doesn't happen in a different rig, then it could be a number of different things. A bad memory stick (easy to test them by only running one stick at a time and see if it only crashes on a specific one), or not enough power from the PSU (bad power supply or cabling issue).
      Best of luck my friend - GPUs are so expensive nowadays that it really sucks when the literal most expensive thing in your box breaks :(

      After going through the initial troubleshooting, they determined that I needed to perform an RMA on the card. This unfortunately took about a month between shipping it out and waiting to get it back (not to mention the week or two of initial troubleshooting and working with eSupport), but I've had no issues after they replaced some component. Not sure which component, I can't find the paperwork they sent back, and their portal has almost no information on the RMA. If you have a gigabyte card, be ready to get literally no customer service whatsoever. I called them and got in the digital queue for a call back, never got one. Emailed their support address twice while they were repairing it and never got a reply. I'd recommend not waiting or troubleshooting too much - if you have another person that's willing to let you test the card in their working rig, and it still fails, you'll know immediately that there's an issue with the hardware on the card. Best of luck.

    • @twentyhands
      @twentyhands  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimcramer6354 Sorry, I emailed Gigabyte twice to get more information about what the repair entailed, but they never got back to me. It was a specific component on the GPU, and at one point in the RMA there was a note on which piece failed, but once they update the RMA the previous note gets hidden and I didn't write it down. I'd highly recommend (if possible) swapping the GPU into another computer and running a stress test to see if it still crashes. If it does, then the card is still broken, but if not, there's probably something else going on with your rig. Could be a specific RAM stick (running 1 at a time to see if it crashes on a specific stick), or your PSU might not be delivering power correctly to the card. What all have you tried so far?

    • @twentyhands
      @twentyhands  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      first, double check you're on the most recent drivers. If you still have issues, and if you can, try swapping your GPU into someone else's rig and see if it still crashes. If so, then you're looking for sure at a hardware problem and you'll want to start the RMA process through your card's manufacturer as soon as you can. It took over a month for me to start the RMA, ship it out for repair, and get it back. If it doesn't crash in another rig, you could have an issue with your RAM or power supply. You can just run one stick of RAM at a time and see if it crashes on a particular one. If that doesn't work, it's probably the power supply. This is better tested by taking it into a repair shop and having them put a temporary one in for testing since it won't cost as much as buying a whole new one if it's not necessary. If that also doesn't fix it, it could be MOBO/CPU. At that point, you've already got the rig in a repair shop so they should be able to pinpoint which is the issue. Good luck!

Apparently (some not even hitting heat thresholds, such as I) the quick and poor manufacturing process left a lot of cards with inadequate thermal paste application on the cards.
